From the Desk of Fr. Mark

Hi, everyone. I hope no one is expecting too much from me for the next week. I will be with my brothers on Wednesday and Thurs-day of this week. When I'm with family, it always takes me about a week to recover from lack of sleep and over eat-ing. We are all going to Hueston Woods State Park near Mi-ami University to do some camping and golfing. I am more of a camper and enjoy sitting around by a campfire under the night sky to wait for the raccoons to invade our spot. I will bring my trusty slingshot to keep them at arm’s length. I will also bring the supply of pies, but my main job is to keep my brothers under control. If you think I am the rowdy one, you are misinformed. I am the quiet one, at least compared to my brothers. I'm sure I will be learning new tricks to bring back with me. This is the first year without my brother, Norman. We still miss him and, for these two days, we will miss him even more. He was the first to have a piece of pie (he would usu-ally not wait for a meal, but always had a piece of pie at the meal). He loved to play cards and tell a story which was al-ways on the boarder of truth (Fr. Elmer has taken on that role quite nicely). We will hike trails and solve the world's prob-lems. If anyone needs answers to any problems, just stop on by. The Pope and President Trump will be stopping by for answers, as we will be talking religion and politics. I will be tired, but also very refreshed when I come back. There are times when it is hard to leave our parishes be-cause there is always something exciting and Godly happen-ing. This past weekend, besides a wedding (which is every weekend) there were two fiftieth wedding anniversaries, kids choir, Fireman's Mass, Outdoor Mass, blessing of ani-mals and a chili cook-off AND a gathering of youth from around the Putnam County area. There were over a hundred youth who came to Kalida to celebrate who we are as church. The youth "battled" at differing contests, ranging from marshmallow tosses to tug of war. As a pastor, it was great to see youth come together and celebrate the joy of the Gospel. Persons of all high school ages from differ-ent churches shared in the day. Of course there was some competition (which is of no importance to me!!!!) but there was a lot more unity, as we celebrated that we are united as the people of God. It is fun to watch the body of Christ be fully alive (this is the reason why I need time off with my brothers - I am so tired of being fully alive with the youth). This weekend promises to be more of the same. Thanks to everyone who makes parish life exciting for me. It is easy for me to find God here. It is my honor and privilege to celebrate God with you. Thanks to all who helped make my birthday a very nice one. The hardest part of my birthday was seeing the number 61 in writing. I don't feel or think like I'm 61. You all help me be young. Have a great week, everyone. Fr. Mark
