ADORATION OF THE

MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT When He returned, He found them

asleep. He said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Could you not keep watch for one

hour?" Mark 14:37

Come and spend the most peaceful hour (or part of an hour) of your week with Jesus. Each Friday after the 9 AM Mass the Blessed Sacrament is exposed upon the altar (Lower Church). The recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy will take place at 3:00pm, followed by reposition. Please join us. We are committed to having at least two persons present at all times of Adoration. There is a sign-in book in the Gathering Room near the entrance to the Mary Chapel. If you can commit just one hour or more, please call Ursula Koslowski at 781-729-6170 or email [email protected]

PARISH REGISTRATION Registration forms can be downloaded from our website at www.stmary-winchester.org or can be found at the back of the church. Completed forms can be mailed or dropped off at the Rectory or placed in the collection basket. St. Mary Parish Family Third Sunday of Advent December 11, 2016

2016 Grand Annual

It’s really beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here! The choirs are rehearsing, the decorations in the rectory are up, the flowers have been ordered and Lucy’s Christmas scarf is clean and ready to be worn. And true to the meaning of Advent, a period of preparing, anticipation and repentance, our Advent Penance Service is scheduled for next Sunday, December 18th, at 3:00pm. If you have been away from Reconciliation for a long time or just want to find the peace if Christ, this is your opportunity, this is the season to come back. We welcome you with open arms. Today is Gaudate Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, and we will be blessing the Baby Jesus’ from your cribs at home at the 10am Mass. This is a tradition that we started last year and it was so well received, that we decided to do it every year.

Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners, we are two thirds of our goal at just over $214,000.

Reminder letters have been mailed and we ask you to prayerfully consider a donation to the 2016 Grand Annual Appeal. We sincerely appreciate those who have already given.

Update on Fr. Dick

Fr. Dick Messina has been diagnosed with “double pneumonia.” He is at home with his family recuperating. I spoke with him on the phone last week and because of the severity of his illness I don’t expect him to be back for at least a few weeks. I’m hoping he’ll be back with us by Christmas. If he is not, we’ll have to make some more adjustments to our weekday Mass schedule following Christmas because Fr. Rich McGowan is leaving us for a year just before Christmas. It’s very difficult to find priests to fill in and help out.

Congratulations to John Dooley and Bethany Durden, both students at Boston College on being the recipients of the Frank McGowan Scholarship. This was given to honor the memory of the father of Fr. Richard McGowan and funded by the members of St. Mary’s Parish Family. Bethany and John are shown above with Fr. Richard McGowan and Fr, Richard Beaulieu.

Each Christmas, our collection supports the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which helps care for our 614 priests. Our priests are there for us, sharing God’s good news, performing good news, performing good works and building good communities of faith. Please visit our clergytrust, org to learn more about our priests. Or find the trust on Facebook by searching “@ClergyTrust”. Thank you for your support.

Music Ministry Don't miss the St. Mary Choir's presentation of Vivaldi's Gloria. They will be performing this wonderful musical masterpiece with a full chamber orchestra. The concert begins at 7:30 and will last less than an hour. Please support our talented volunteer musicians who have been working hard for the last couple of months to prepare for this concert. Take some time away from the hustle and bustle of shopping and traffic to listen to the proclamation of the angels heard that first Christmas Day, "Glory to God in the Highest."

LITTLE SISTERS OF THE POOR

This week’s special collection supports the work of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Together with a diverse network of collaborators, they serve the elderly poor locally in Somerville. They offer the neediest elderly of every race and religion a home where they will be welcomed as Christ, cared for as family and accompanied with dignity until God calls them to himself.
