►WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Enjoy a Marriage Encounter Weekend from the comfort of your own home! We would not expect a car, or a house heating/air conditioning system to run for years without any servicing, so why do weexpect our marriage relationship to keep running smoothly without a little maintenance? The Virtual Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend gives married couples the tools to keep their relationship in top running condition. Forthcoming Weekends are from 9-11 October, 6-8 November, 13-15 November and 20-22 November. You can also enjoy the Experience mid-week, from 15 -16 September. Visit www.wwme.org for further information. Quote from a couple who made a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend: “Our Weekend will be a dramatic high point in our lives for years to come.”

The Discovering Program A Junior High Parish Religion Program

Younger teens (Grades 7th & 8th) need a religious education program that addresses real-life teen issues and different learning styles. The Discovering Program is a comprehensive set of 14 minicourses and teaching resources that help you create religion classes focusing on relationship-building, active student participation, and sound religious principles.

We will start with our first book called Being Catholic which identifies specific aspects of

Catholicism. It will enable adolescents to consider what it means to be a Catholic

Christian, and helps them integrate a sense of Catholic identity with their identity as

persons.

If you haven’t sign up yet, please call Anna Townsend call at 812-926-0060. We will be meeting twice a month after

the 4:00 PM mass. Our first session will start on Saturday, October 24!

From the Desk of Fr. Ben Syberg Greetings my fellow covidians, a covidian being one who has entered a new or even post-covid reality. (I hope to trademark this phrase, and make a fortune - all the rich people seem to make their money randomly too, so why not)? Are we indeed headed into a new phase of covid-life?? I hope so. But will all things ever return to normal? This I doubt. We would have plunged our head deep in the sands if we think that nothing will change in the near future. What will change, who knows? As prescient covidians I hope we have learned the one important truth that this crisis can teach us: NO ONE KNOWS THE FUTURE. But for fun we can at least guess. Your trigger-happy pastor decided that it’s time to flip the Sunday morning outdoor and indoor masses. So, this weekend: 8:30am is inside, and 10:30am is outside. Next week, the first official weekend of October (you know the month with the beer and pumpkins and stuff) Mass is 9am and 11am. 9am will be inside. 11am will be outside. And we'll roll with this pumpkin policy as long as we can. I suspect that sometime in November or December, we will permanently locate inside St. Lawrence on Sunday mornings, and both masses will be indoors. I hope to give you more heads-up when that happens; I am sorry for the sudden announcement. That’s not my favorite way to communicate. It’s just that at the time I couldn’t feel my fingers. Quick (and random) Hits As of this writing, we await an announcement from Gov. Holcomb about next steps for Indiana. I suspect that things will be opening up more and more. And if they open up the bars, hopefully they open up churches too. St. Lawrence and St. Mary’s are well underway in their brick and mortar moments. Long-needed but manageable work is happening to the exteriors of both campuses. Good stuff and more to come. In the 1500s, China demanded that all their international trade-ships be burned, and the outside world be shut-out of the empire. Which led to 400 years of Europe’s dominance over China and everyone else. Lesson to be learned: engage the world, don’t hide from it. There’s an election coming. (Have you heard about this thing?) Let’s remember that all politics is local. As Catholics we believe in subsidiarity, which elevates government and leadership on the smallest level. So, while the whole country screams over who will be the next president, state, county and local elections matter too. Christmas will be here before we know it. Tentative plans are: 5:00pm Mass at a neutral site capable of holding (safely) a large number of people 10:30pm Mass at St. Lawrence 9:00am Mass at St. Mary’s God Bless.

The Word This Week (26th Sunday of Ordinary Time

“Once a sinner, always a sinner.” That seems to be the attitude of the self-righteous in the first reading and the Gospel; they object that God is unjust, because he gives sinners another chance. But God tells them quite clearly that such attitudes are the real injustice - to allow prejudice and hardness of heart to come between repentance and forgiveness. The words of Christ in the Gospel must have struck a chill into the hard hearts of the so-called righteous chief priests - even today they can make us stop and think: “Prostitutes are making their way into the kingdom of God before you.” All our outward show matters little, if it does not correspond with what is deep

in our hearts; all our words are meaningless, if they do not correspond with the way we live our lives. Source:

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING CLASSES

Is your “contraceptive” really killing your babies? Many are unaware that the IUD and, at times, the pill are abortifacients, working by not allowing the 5-7 day old child to implant in the womb. Have you informed your conscience on the moral evil of artificial birth control? Come learn the Christian Way. A Natural Family Planning class will be held Sunday, Oct. 4th, from 9:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at St. Louis Parish Office, Batesville, IN. (13 St. Louis Place, the building between the school and church.) The Sympto-Thermal method is 98% effective, natural, and safe. There is a $40.00 fee for books and materials. For reservations call or text 812-212-4951 or 812-212-2719.

Life Chain 2020

The Knights of Columbus, Respect Life Committee members and all Pro-Life Christians are asked to participate in our local Life Chain 2020 on October 4th, which is Respect Life Sunday. The Life Chain will be between 2 pm and 3 pm, lead by Knight of Columbus and Respect Life members in solidarity along U.S. 50 in Lawrenceburg. Life Chain IS NOT political or confrontational. Life Chain IS a silent prayer vigil by Christians to communicate their opposition to Abortion. Participants prayerfully display signs which state the truth about abortion. It is an opportunity for local churches to unite in prayer and stand up for the rights of the unborn.

Life Chain 2020 will be along U.S. 50 between Walnut and Front Street in Lawrenceburg. Everyone who believes in the protection of the unborn children and their mothers is invited to participate. Signs will be provided, or bring your own. (No political signs; everyone already knows where Biden and President Trump stand on this issue.) James 2:26 tells us that “Faith without Work is Dead”. If we believe Abortion is wrong, let’s take action and be a part of Life Chain 2020. Go
