Love One Another
Dear Friends,
At this time of year, the Diocese of Rockford announces the Diocesan Appeal. This year’s theme of the appeal is “Love One Another,” which calls us to a deeper reflection on the truth that God is love and He is always present in our lives whenever we love each other with His love. He is with us in each and every second and every situation of our lives. God is present among us in many different ways. However, the best place we experience His love and share it with others is in the community of the Church and the communities of God’s people, including our diocese and our parish. In order to make the experience of God’s love among us available to more and more people, the Diocese of Rockford sponsors many ministries that make it possible.
It is why every year we have the Diocesan Appeal, through which each of us can participate in the work of evangelization. Because of your generous donations, the Diocese of Rockford can serve us all through Seminarian Education, Lay Ministry Formation, College Campus Ministry, Retired Priests, Life and Family Evangeliza-tion, Youth Ministry, Religious Education, Catholic Charities, St. Elizabeth Center, Deaf Apostolate Ministry, and many more.
I am very grateful to all of you who supported last year’s appeal with generous hearts. This year, the Diocese of Rockford is asking us to support the appeal with $113, 453. The appeal envelopes have been mailed to registered parishioners, who have supported the appeal over the course of the last 18 years. Those of you who have not received these envelopes, I ask you to take them from the church and after prayerful consideration, please make a pledge to support this appeal.
We ask you as always to be as generous as you can. Some can give more, some less, some none. No offering is too big or too small. We thank you for all. Based on the actual history of monetary support of our parish, if each family will give $200 to this year’s appeal, our goal could easily be achieved.
Thank you as always for your great generosity. Your participation and prayers are important to our success. May you experience, during this Easter Season, a greater gratitude to God and a deeper sense of love and unity with our risen Lord, our Catholic faith community at this parish, the Rockford Diocese, and the Church Universal.
With Franciscan Peace and Goodness,
Fr. Peter Sarnicki, OFM Conv.
God is present among us in many different ways. However, the best place we experience His love and share it with others is in the community of the Church ...

One of the key principles of the Church’s social teaching is global solidarity – rec-
ognizing that we are all one big family, that we are all God’s children regardless of
race, creed, gender, nationality, etc. You and I often find it difficult to feel this
solidarity with our sisters and brothers, partly because we tend to see ourselves as
the center of the universe and partly because our perception is greatly inhibited by
the good fortune of being citizens of the world’s wealthiest and most powerful
nation. This can narrow our vision and cloud our awareness. And our vision seems
to be getting worse these days. Perhaps the following will help us to see ourselves
and others with God’s eyes.
You have likely seen illustrations like the one below. But regardless of the ver-
sion, the picture painted is certainly food for thought...and action. If we could
reduce the world’s population to a village of 100 people with all existing ratios remaining
the same, the demographics would look something like this:
w The village would have 61 Asians, 13 Africans, 12 Europeans, 8 Latin Americans,
5 from the USA and Canada, and 1 from the South Pacific.
w 50 would be male, 50 would be female.
w 75 would be non-white; 25 white.
w 90 would be heterosexual; 10 homosexual.
w 69 would be non-Christian; 31 would be Christian.
w 80 would live in substandard housing.
w 16 would be unable to read or write.
w 20 live in fear of death by bombardment, armed attack or landmines, or rape or
kidnapping by armed groups.
w 50 would be malnourished and another 20 undernourished (with 1 dying of starvation).
w 20 would be without access to a safe water supply.
w 39 would lack access to improved sanitation.
w 24 would not have any electricity. Of the 76 that do have electricity, most only use it
for light at night. 20 people consume 80% of the energy.
w 12 would have computers.
w 7 would have a college education.
w 1 would have HIV. 12 are disabled.
w 2 would be near birth; 1 near death.
w 5 would control 32% of the entire world’s wealth; all 5 would be US citizens.
w 20 would be receiving – and attempting to live on – only 2% of the income of “the
village.” 21 live on $1.25 per day.
May we learn to see ourselves and the rest of the world through God’s eyes. May we see others as sisters and brothers rather than “us and them.” And may these insights allow us to be more grateful for our blessings, to more generously share our abundance, and to do a better job of building up His Kingdom here on earth by responding to the needs of the poor and marginalized

Gluten-Free Hosts
As more people are being diagnosed with celiac disease, ways to make common food items (including hosts) gluten-free are available.
Here at Saint Margaret Mary we have gluten-free hosts available for any parishioner or visitor at each of our weekend Masses. These hosts
are distributed only from the Communion line closest to the Altar
Servers on the side. Upon reaching the minister ask for gluten-free host.
VOCATION CORNER….
SAINT JOSEPH
Saint Joseph is one of the key characters of the history of salvation.
Although he is mention very few times in the gospel, his life and
vocation are well known to all Christians. The gospel according to
Matthew says the he is the husband of Mary (Mt. 1:16), and a just
man’ (Mt. 1:19). For somebody who likes long explanations these two characteristics
of Joseph may seem nothing, but reflecting on them we find a man of integrity, and
humility. We don’t need a long explanation to know that he was always working to be
the person he ought to be. He also was a man of action, few verses latter the same
gospel tells us that Joseph “did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him’ (Mt.
1:24). He was always ready to act according to God’s plan.
He is a good example of somebody answering a vocation. He reflected, then presented
his plan before God, then listened to God, and finally acted. Joseph teaches us how
our will and our intentions are purified and magnified when we listen God’s voice and
act according to it.
If you are discerning a vocation, considers Joseph’s example of integrity, present your
plan to the Lord, listen to his voice, then act according to it.

People who are grieving often
find that nobody understands
what their loss feels like. They
find that friends and family (with
good intentions) just want them
to get past their grief and get on
with their life. It helps to be able to share about your loss. Saint Mar-
garet Mary Parish has a Grief Support Group. We want to provide a
safe place where grieving people can come, listen, and share their
stories. We meet on the 2nd Thursday, at 7:30 PM in the Ministry
Center.
Totus Tuus (meaning “Totally Yours”) is a weeklong camp for children and teens to grow in faith as young disciples through fun activities, games, music, prayer and daily Mass. This is a program facilitated by seminarians and col-
lege students. This will be an experience your child won’t want to miss.

Our Military…. The Military Ministry has several purposes. First and foremost, we pray for those who are in harm’s way. They are protecting not only our freedoms but also American citizens living abroad and citizens of countries that are
friendly to the United States.
Remember to include the following in your prayers:
Erik Borchert - Army, Korea; Jonathan Budek -Navy, Persian Gulf; A.J. (Anthony) Chiappone - Air Force, Aviano, Italy; Michael Chiappone- Air Force, Andrews Air Force Base; Dan
Halley - Marines; Alan Jones, Navy, South Carolina; Lt. Jacob
Korbecki - Army, Ft. Stewart, GA; Sgt. James LeRoy - Army, Special Forces, Syria; Steven Nasiatka - Army, South Korea; 2nd
Lt. Connor Spiegel - Marines
O Prince of Peace, we humbly ask for your protection for all our men and women in military service. Give them unflinching cour-age to defend with honor, dignity, and devotion, the rights of all who are imperiled by injustice and evil. Be their rock, their shield, and their stronghold and let them draw their strength from you. Amen.

CARDINAL DOLAN’S
10 STEPS TO HOLINESS
Last week we promised to list Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s 10 steps to holiness as
outlined in his book, Called to Be Holy.
A faithful, personal, loving relationship
with Jesus in the deepest fiber of our be-
ing is the key.
Cardinal Dolan proposes a stewardship of
the spirit that comes from centuries of
practice and learning: 1. Daily Prayer
Patient, persevering, persistent prayer,
every day.
2. Daily Mass
Reverence for the Real Presence of Christ
in the Blessed Sacrament.
3. Daily Faithfulness to the Liturgy of the Hours
4. Daily Spiritual Reading
Daily reverent meditation upon Sacred Scripture and the enduring books of our
Catholic tradition.
5. Spiritual Direction
Here is where integration and interiorization begin to take place.
6. The Sacrament of Penance
Regular reliance on God’s mercy is sound spiritual stewardship.
7. Growing in Virtue
Ongoing conversion, repentance, dying to sin, self, and Satan. Rising to new life
in Christ.
8. Devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Saints
9. Holistic Formation, Allowing Spirituality to Permeate Our Lives
The spiritual life is not a tidy, isolated compartment of our existence.
10. The Final Component: Keeping Ever in View the Call to Holiness
“Our stewardship of the Spirit is not a soothing benefice we
cling to, but an inspiration to love humankind better.”
Cardinal Timothy Dolan is the Archbishop of New York and
president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

His heart went out to those who had given up their practice of faith, or who
lacked a church community.
Our pilgrimage includes:
