TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading — Take off your robe of mourning and misery; put on the splendor of glory from God (Baruch 5:1-9). Psalm — The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy (Psalm 126). Second Reading — I am confident that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:4-6, 8-11). Gospel — The winding roads shall be made straight, and the rough ways made smooth (Luke 3:1-6).

Morgan Fitzgibbons Kenyon was welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church and our Parish Family on December 2nd through the waters of Baptism. Let us strive, by our word and example, to create an environment for her to come to know the love of God and the meaning of “being church.”

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS The Knights of Columbus have religious Christmas cards and magnets available for sale in the Parish Hall to help spread the true meaning of Christmas. These beautiful religious Christmas cards and magnets reflect on the Birthday of Jesus Christ and are a reminder to Keep Christ in Christmas!

AWAITING THE SALVATION OF GOD

The world does not seem big enough to contain the jubilation of the first reading. In the Gospel reading, the Roman empire isn’t big enough, either. The great powers of Rome are named and made to stand waiting for the arrival of God’s salvation. And we find Paul meditating joyfully on what really matters.

According to Baruch, the city of Jerusalem is like a person standing on tiptoe looking for God’s salvation, which is coming from the east. Those who were led away on foot, heads down, now come back, a proud people. Why, the very way is smoothed out. The path is lined with fragrant, lush trees.

It can’t get any better than this, can it? Well, yes, it can. For a voice calls out in the desert. Here is the beginning of the salvation of God. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

AT ALL AMERICAN ASSISTED LIVING

The quote below is from an email Mrs. Donna Traynham sent to me after supervising a visit of eight St. Jude youth at All American Assisted Living in Londonderry last Sunday afternoon.

“Hi Trish! I just wanted to let you know that the visit today went beautifully. The kids were so well behaved and the residents had a great time with them. Several of the students were disappointed when their parents arrived to pick them up! The joy that the kids brought to the residents was so heartwarming and I would love to help build some relationships over time.”

We will continue this opportunity to respect and care for our elderly so watch for more information.

PARISH OUTREACH MINISTRY

The goal of the Parish Outreach Ministry is to strengthen our parish community by connecting to those in need. There are members of our parish family who are homebound or do not drive at night, but would love to attend Mass, receive Communion, or attend special parish events or adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Some would just love a friendly visit, or might need help with a simple household chore or a ride to the grocery store. We want to bring them back into our parish life. Volunteers can assist on a one-time basis, or as often as they like.

The Parish Outreach Ministry manages a list of those in need and matches them to volunteer parishioners. We communicate our list of “needs” via email. If you have the time and want to help out, you just answer the email. To maintain confidentiality, no names are exchanged until parishioners and volunteers have been matched.

If you or someone you know would benefit from this program, or if you would like to be a volunteer, please contact Lisa Laurence at [email protected] or 548-5130.

BLUE ANGELS THANK YOU!!!

For many years now, our parish has sponsored a wonderful outreach project, “The Christmas Blue Angels”, to make Christmas happen for some Londonderry families for whom Christmas might not otherwise be as joyous. We would like to thank everyone who assisted with the Blue Angels this year. From purchasing food and gifts, to donating time and talent, your generosity has been overwhelming and we know God will bless you for your sharing. We wish you all a blessed Christmas!

PRAY WITH WOMEN OF THE GOSPEL

The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet have a new retreat based on Sr. Joan’s new book, Holy Women, Full of Grace. We hope these four sessions with gospel women will be an occasion for you to bless your own life in Christ and unite you in prayer with women and girls around the world. You can view the whole table of contents for Holy Women and find more Advent Resources at goodgroundpress.com.

BAPTISMAL PREPARATION CLASS

Parents who plan on having a baby baptized are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation

Class with Deacon Marc. The next class will be held Wednesday, December 19th at 6:00PM in Deacon Marc’s office. To register, please contact Sally by calling the Parish Office at 432-3333. You must register before attending.

OUR LADY OF HOPE HOUSE OF PRAYER

Our Lady of Hope House of Prayer (400 Temple Road, New Ipswich, NH) will be offering several programs for individuals seeking to deepen their relationship with the Lord, including:

Contemplative Weekends: January 25-27, 2019 or February 15-17, 2019

This silent weekend will allow personal time to journey with self and with God. Adoration will be available. Mass will be available on Saturday morning. Cost: $150 (includes $40 registration)

Tuning in to God: February 8-10, 2019 If God had a radio station, would your reception be clear, staticky, or somewhere in between? We’ve allowed our lives to become so busy and we are distracted by much activity, chatter and noise. Often, the only way we can ever begin to hear God is by quieting ourselves. How can you be aware of God’s movement unless you consciously tune out other things? “God speaks in the silence of the heart. Listening is the beginning of prayer.” Mother Teresa Cost: $160 (includes $40 registration fee)

In addition to programs, we offer time and space for long periods of private retreat days. In the past, some of you have come with a group of parishioners for prayer and/or for planning meetings. Do come again.

Please contact Sisters Rita Pay or Suzanne Rivard, p.m. for further information or for reservations at 603-878-2346 or [email protected]. Additional information is also available at http://www.ourladyhope.org.

The following is a little enticement to what the book holds for its readers: In this compilation of the five books in the Lineage of Grace series by Francine Rivers, we meet the five women God chose; Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. Each faced extraordinary, even scandalous challenges. Each took great personal risk to fulfill her calling. Each was destined to play a key role in the lineage of Jesus.
