the Prince of Peace. How do we handle that? Allow
me to answer with a quotation from the Pope Emeri-
tus: "Christmas is now at hand. The Lord God did not
counter the threats of history with external power, as
we human beings would expect according to the pros-
pects of our world. His weapon is goodness. He re-
vealed himself as a child, born in a stable. This is pre-
cisely how he counters with his power, completely
different from the destructive powers of violence. In
this very way he saves us. In this very way he shows us
what saves. In these days of Christmas, let us go to
meet him full of trust, like the shepherds, like the Wise
Men of the East. Let us ask Mary to lead us to the
Lord. Let us ask him himself to make his face shine
upon us. Let us ask him also to defeat the violence in
the world and to make us experience the power of his
goodness." (Pope Benedict XVI, Dec. 22, 2005).
May you allow yourself to be saved by the
savior, through Mary, his mother and ours. May your
spirit rejoice in God your savior!
On behalf of Frs. Casavantes and Tatman, I
wish to thank you for your tremendous generosity and
support throughout this past year 2015. With the as-
surance of my prayers every day, I remain,
Your humble servant in Christ,

little time. The Talent Show will be a maximum of 70

or more participants. While maintaining some flexibil-
ity, each group act should be 3 minutes or less. Indi-
viduals 2 minutes or less. All acts will be screened.

The Marriage Course
A new course will begin Jan. 15th and runs for 7
weeks. Please see the info sheets, and registration
forms on the window wall. Please return the registra-
tion to the parish office.
Dear Parishioners, Momentous human events--when we are faced with them
--elicit an immediate introspection. What is the meaning
of this? and how do I relate to it? Momentous is the birth
of our God and creator. We struggle to assemble these
words, let alone the meaning they signify. Our creator,
who has no beginning, has chosen to have a beginning;
who is greater than the cosmos, is now a tiny part in it.
How can this be? What does it mean about Him? What
does it mean about me?
Our Lady, a sweet, innocent young girl, was
asked to play a pivotal role. She made her own intro-
spection. Her response is a model for us too: she adores
God, she is joyful, she is thankful, she is praises him, she
recalls his wondrous deeds. Listen: "My soul doth mag-
nify the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has regarded the humility of his handmaid. For
behold, from henceforth, all generations shall call me
blessed. For he that is mighty has done great things to
me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is from genera-
tion to generation to those who fear him. He has showed
the might of his arm, he has scattered the proud in the
conceit of their hearts," (Lk.1:47ff).
While accepting her low estate, she does not
downplay the greatness of God's work in her. She is also
a prophet: "all generations shall call me blessed." Our
Lady's role is unique; but every life is unique; to every-
one has God done great things.
This brings us to the mercy of God, which is "to
those who fear him." Is there a condition on God's
mercy? Is God's love unconditional? or conditional?
The answer is both, because receiving God's mercy is a
graduated process.
God always initiates this process. This initiation
is without condition. Always. He wasn't born in Bethle-
hem because we deserved it, but because, like any lover,
he initiates a union with his beloved. Its proper we re-
spond to this initiation--because that's what lovers do.
Our response becomes the condition for the next initia-
tion he makes. If we receive God's magnificent conde-
scension, this proof of love, we naturally fear to offend
that love freely given: "His mercy is ... to those who fear
him." We are open to the next level of mercy.
Our world rejects these overtures of love from
