Religious Education Dear Friends, registration for Religious Education for the fall is in progress. If you did not receive your registration packet in the mail, please call Linda in the Religious Ed office, 302-656-7185, and she will be happy to send you what you need. Registration information for the sacraments of First Reconciliation/Eucharist (grade 2) and Confirmation (grade 9) is included in the regular registration packet. If your son or daughter attends Catholic school and is in grade 2 or 9, please call the Religious Ed Office and we will be happy to send you sacrament registration information. In our diocese, all sacraments are celebrated at the parish to which the family belongs. Because there are several extra forms which need to be signed and returned, we do not have an option for online registration this year. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work out exactly what Religious Ed will look like this fall. Our desire is to do what is best for everyone, and our Pflaum Gospel Weeklies curriculum provides MANY excellent options and resources, including the option for you to choose home study even if the parish program as a whole should decide on "in person" classes. The most up to date information is found in your Religious Ed newsletter, emailed to you each Thursday. If you don't receive the email newsletter, please call the Religious Ed office and make sure we have your correct email address. God bless you and your families! Love and prayers, Eva
We have good news to share about the return of The Dialog to every-other-Friday publication. The Dialog will once again be publishing and delivering to parishes its regular print edition. It’s the first in-print version of the newspaper since mid-March as restrictions were put in place to limit the spread of coronavirus. From the Cathedral of St. Peter in Wilmington, Delaware, the Most Reverend W. Francis Malooly, Bishop of Wilmington, ordained Seminarian Michael Preston to the Transitional Diaconate on August 1. Congratulations are in order! Visit www.cdow.org to watch the video.
Pastor’s Column WHY PRAY?
The “foreigners” as Isaiah calls them, the “Gentiles” as Paul calls them, or the “Canaanites” as Matthew calls them are called to worship the one true God in prayer. As we listen to today’s readings, perhaps we are tempted to ask: Why pray? The question is rhetorical; it is tantamount to asking why should friends talk to one another or people in love kiss one another. Prayer is a way of relating to God, a way of talking to God. The apostles had the opportunity to talk to Jesus in the flesh. We have the opportunity to talk to Jesus Christ in prayer. Our relationship with him must be enthusiastic; it cannot be faint-hearted. John Donne, a fifteenth-century poet, knew what the qualities of good prayer were. Donne asks God to treat him differently from most Christians. The poet does not want God to merely “knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend,” but also to “break, blow, burn, and make me new” (Holy Sonnets, XIV). It takes a dynamic faith on our part to come to God in prayer. As Jesus once said, “Knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). It may take pounding the door down, but if we are as persistent as the woman in today’s Gospel, the results will follow.
Are You Safe in
Worshiping at SJOB?
Yes, if you continue to sanitize your hands upon entering, wear a mask and maintain social distancing. Here is how we clean and sanitize the church and hall during Covid-19. Thanks to staff and volunteers, the following process is followed daily, after each Sunday Mass and after special events. We hope this is helpful information to enable you to enjoy your worship experience within our faith community.
1. All of the high touch surface areas in the church (this includes but is not limited to the hardware on the doors, the rail top of the pews, the ends and entrances to the pews, the rail along the walls of the stained glass windows, and the bathroom) are first wiped down with CaviWipes a hospital grade disinfectant and cleaning wipe. Cavicide, the disinfectant that the wipes carry contains Water, Isopropanol, Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether (2- Butoxyethanol), and Diisobutylphenoxyethoxyethyldimethylbenzyl ammonium chloride.
2. The previously wiped surfaces are then sprayed with IS2-Natural 81% Alcohol Disinfectant. The CDC recommends at least 70% alcohol to disinfect. IS2-Natural 81% Alcohol Disinfectant contains Ethyl Alcohol, Water, Hydrogen Peroxide, and Isopropyl Alcohol.
3. Then once a week after the Masses for both the church and the hall, Patrick Garrett, owner/independent
contractor of does a deep cleaning of all of those two facilities and then disinfects them as follows: sprays and wipes clean all high-contact areas (light switches, door handles, sink knobs, toilet handles, drawer handles, etc.) with disinfectant and sprays all high-contact and surface areas (seats, pews, table tops, countertops, etc. with disinfectant to air dry. The disinfectant product used is Nu-Foamicide.
