Dear Parishioners,

Thank God, we’re still up and running. I understand that things in Cook

County aren’t looking good. Her Honor, Mayor Lightfoot, has put a

Stay at Home “advisory” in place, counseling people NOT to get

together for Thanksgiving festivities. She also seems to be threatening

Chicago aldermen who might dare to vote against Her Highness’

Spending Plan. Well, I imagine she’ll still be able to get to her

hairdresser and have extra police to guard her home. But, if she’s voted

against, those who dare to do so will see that their wards’ needs will not

be, ah, “prioritized.” Ain’t politics fun?

Friends of mine back in Philly tell me that restrictions put in place

today are worse than they were when they were activated in the spring.

Why is it that no one learns from history? Yes, there were intense

restrictions after the 1918 flu epidemic, but, you know what? Flu is still

here, mutating year in, year out. Lockdowns, shutdowns or whatever

downs will not cause Wuhan to simply disappear. It’s with us now and it

will be with us forever. Multiple lockdowns will never fix the problem.

The Swine Flu (2009) pandemic lasted for more than 1.5 years and at

least 284K people died. No lockdowns there.

We can point to the 1918 flu pandemic where lockdowns actually were

necessary – when you consider that, worldwide, 500 million people

were infected and between 17 and 50 million people died. Without

making light of infections and deaths of Wuhan (exclusively, not cases

with accompanying morbidities) – after all, two friends of mine, in

other states are afflicted – the behemoth-like measures in place here or

there, considering the relatively low infection rate and very, but very

low death rate, are, in comparison to the 1918 catastrophe, significantly

unwarranted.

And finally, the Church’s primary mission is the salvation of souls,

right? Putting the physical before the spiritual is a dangerous reversal,

my dear family.

Ministries Annual Appeal Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal

Monthly pledge payments for CMAA

pledges should be made in the next few

days. It is very important that these

pledges be paid so that our parish will

reach our goal. Once we reach our goal

in pledges, 70% of the surplus received

will be returned to the parish for our use.

Parish Goal: $20,700

Amount Pledged: $18,813

Pledge Amount Balance: $1,887

Amount Paid: $18,413

Remaining Unpaid Balance to Goal: $2,287

Remaining Balance to Present Pledged Amount: $400

Rebate Amount: None yet.

CMAA Continued: I give you a complete picture of our CMAA status every week. As

you can see, we still owe $2,287 to reach our goal. Yes, I know it’s

difficult. I know your first priority is the parish. I know you’re not

terribly happy with the diocese at the moment. This goes for me too.

The diocese seems to give us nothing and yet take everything –

including our rights and liberties. Still, we’ve surpassed our goal

every year since 2017. I want us to rise above our negative feelings

and carry our cross, not only resignedly and happily, but

triumphantly. I want us to get “into the diocese’s face” and tell them

that they won’t win, but we will. We will triumph in the face of

adversity. We will show them how to give and shame them for their

taking. I don’t care if we surpass this year. I just want us to reach our

goal. I want them all to know that they won’t beat us. We will beat

them. We can do this. If 100 people ponied up $22.87, we’d have it.

Will you help our parish reach its goal?

Dressing for Church

Putting on “your Sunday best” for God should be the rule of thumb.

Gentlemen should wear dress shirts and slacks. Ties and jackets are a

wonderful touch. Ladies always look their best in dresses or skirts

and blouses and should be mindful of the virtue of modesty,

concealing shoulders, “décolletage” and avoiding tightly, form-

fitting outfits. If veils are not for you, I think there is nothing more

lovely or feminine than a beautiful hat.

Our Lady of Fatima, Pray for Us. Please join us on Sunday, December 13th at 6:00 P.M. as

we pray the Holy Rosary in reparation for the sins

committed within Christ’s Church.
