Over all [other virtues] put on love, that is, the bond of

perfection. — Colossians 3:14

The Parish Office will be closed Wednesday, January 1 Ministry of Praise Pray-ers throughout our parish

pray everyday for individual and parish needs. Prayer requests should be submitted each month in the box on the wall in the narthex. Seniors, handicapped, and homebound who serve with intercessory prayer are the core of the Ministry of Praise. For emergency prayer needs, call Nancy McCarthy at (703) 771-8908 or [email protected]

LOVE For generations, various cultures regarded family life merely as a utilitarian necessity. Sirach introduces honor and respect. For Jews and Christians alike, the value of family goes even further. The family is seen as the indispensable school where love is learned. Paul addresses the Colossians and offers a list of virtues that make for a solid and happy church. These values also make for a happy family at ease with itself and its members: mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness. As a capstone, Paul urges love, which brings all of these domestic virtues to perfection. Paul seems to be on a roll as he lauds the virtues of the church at Colossae. With such heartfelt virtues, it is no wonder Paul bursts into song. Who wouldn’t? It’s clear that the center of the church is love. It is clear that no matter how far from home the members travel, the heart remains and all the members are connected by the gravitational pull of mutual love, a love first learned in family life.Copyright © J. Come and Join Us in January for“Living a Life in the Spirit Seminar”

One of the crown jewels of Vatican II is the renewed desire of everyday people to live Spirit filled lives. The hearts hunger for an encounter with God is what fueled the beginning of the Catholic Charismatic Movement. “Ordinary Lives Extraordinary Mission”We would like to thank the anonymous parishioners who gifted our parish with 1,500 copies of John R. Woods “Ordinary Lives Extraordinary Mission” that were passed out to each family on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Books can change our lives. We hope this book will inspire you. If your family did not get a copy, please stop by the office to get yours.

This devotion, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, is a time of silence spent before Jesus physically present before us in the Eucharist, placed in the monstrance and exposed upon the altar for all of us to visit and adore - a time to develop that deeper, more personal relationship with Jesus. It is the very core of our Faith and a true gift for our soul and spiritual well-being.

All parishioners are invited and encouraged to spend a Holy Hour in Adoration before

the Blessed Sacrament every Friday. Join us this First Friday.

Please contact Mark Donofrio at (540) 338-8133 or [email protected] if you would like to become a regular adorer, substitute or have any questions.

The Excellence of DevotionThe men who discouraged the Israelites from going into the Promised Land told them that it was a country that “devoured its inhabitants.” In other words, they said that the air was so malignant it was impossible to live there for long and it natives such monsters that they are men like locusts. It is in this manner, my dear Philothea, that the world vilifies holy devotion as much as it can. It pictures devout person as having discounted, gloomy, sullen faces and claims that devotion bring on depression and unbearable moods. But just as Joshua and Caleb held both that the Promised Land was good and beautiful and that its possession would be sweet and agreeable, so too the Holy Spirit by the mouths of all the saints and our Lord by his own mouth assure us that a devout life is a life that is sweet, happy, and lovable. Believe me, my dear Philothea, devotion is the delight of delights and queen of the virtues since it is the perfection of charity. St. Francis de Sales, Introduction to the Devout Life
