The Crying of the Wounded Sheep

Conversion gives joy to all, to the angels, to God and to the person who decides to do so. The

Greek term for conversion Metanoia is usually translated as a change in mind, a strong regret that it

completely rebuilds human life. It seems that it is too late. Indeed, sin makes us already dead,

missing, and lost. Humanly, we can't fix anything anymore. However, what is impossible with

people is possible with God. The sheep couldn't get back to the shepherd on its own, it was too late

for it. It was tangled in the consequences of sin as if in thorny bushes, and every movement caused

pain. But its genuine crying and moaning of regret allowed the shepherd to locate it. It is most

difficult for God to find us, when we do not say anything to Him about our falls, when we pretend

that these thorny bushes are a pleasant little mess, or when our anger at ourselves for what we have

done will take the form of accusing Him of having created us this way.

It is true that for God this deep reflection and regret that we express in repentance is so important

that it gives a new chance, finds a new path, creates new situations through which we can start all

over again. Let's imagine that we are late for the express train and see it fade from our eyes around

the platform bend. And suddenly a traffic dispatcher places a luxury cart with the fastest locomotive

in front of us just because he saw us cry on the platform in terror.

In Hebrew, the word TESHUWA reflects another aspect of conversion. It translates as returning,

turning and pointing in the opposite direction, doing something again. It is true that true repentance

of conversion must undergo the same temptation again. If we reject it, the sorrow of conversion was

sincere, if we fall again in the same sin, all repentance and conversion were imitations, pretending to

ourselves and to God. It happens that we want to have both sanctifying grace and saturation with

sin, but we cannot serve Christ and Belial.

From the Pastor

i każdy ruch wywoływał ból.

I nagle dyspozytor ruchu podstawia

i nawrócenie były imitacją, udawaniem przed sobą i przed Bogiem.

i Belialowi.

Słowo Proboszcza

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

Although New Year’s Day has been fixed firmly on January 1 for several hundred years, Labor Day has the feel of a great dividing line between leisure and routine. The pace of life has since picked up, and new schedules and commitments crowd us. In the background is God’s call to consider the third commandment, still life‑giving and binding, to make holy the Lord’s Day by worship and rest. Jews see the Sabbath, Saturday, not so much as a day of worship, but as a day of rest, a day of renewing friendship with God by delighting in the beauty of creation and the joy of family and friends. It is a day for contemplating the wonder of God’s creation, but not disturbing it. For Christians in the first three centuries, the Lord’s Day, Sunday, was not for rest, but worship. It was a regular work day. People met before dawn, and after Eucharist hurried off to daily routines. Today we come to Mass, but many hurry off to essential work, not a day of rest. The Lord’s Day is not the Sabbath, but we can enhance Sunday’s ability to transform us if we consider embracing some Sabbath values: having a family meal, going for a walk in a beautiful place, making room in our lives to open ourselves more fully to holiness of life in Christ. —James Field, Copyright © J. Open Your Bible Announcing St. Fabian’s NEW Bible Study: Open Your Bible. Come join us this Fall for an exciting new parish Bible study as we study and explore Scripture. The Bible expresses God’s love in action yesterday, today, and forever. One of the most important things we can do to experience God is to read His Word on a consistent basis. It is just as important as experiencing it with others. Joining a small group Bible study is for you whether you have

no idea where to start, crave spiritual friendships or want to go even deeper. Relating scripture or current issues to everyday life experiences enables each member to share their journey of faith with one another and support one another in trying to live out our faith in the world. We will meet on Friday mornings in Room #5 right after the 9am Mass for about an hour. We will start our session on September 20, 2019. You can join our Bible study at any time. We are a very welcoming group, we learn from each other and have meaningful, interesting and at times fun discussions. Our facilitators will be Deacon Joe Stalcup and Deacon Ken Zawadzki. Please call the parish office (708) 599-1110 for more information.

We are looking for peo-ple interested in help-ing to organize a celebration on The

Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Thurs-day, December 12th. Please attend our

planning meeting on Tuesday,

September 17th, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 8.

All are welcome!

“The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service and the fruit of service is peace.” ~ St. Teresa of Calcutta

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word will be held on Sunday during the 9:30 Mass. All children

ages 4 - 12 are welcome.

Younger children may attend with a parent. Parents are always

welcome to observe.

THANK YOU The representatives of the Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese that recently visited with us, extend a most sincere thank you for the welcoming spirit they experienced from the parishioners of Saint Fabian Parish. They also have left additional pamphlets explaining the programs and services offered by the Catholic Cemeteries in the rear of the Church. If you should have any additional questions please call Kasia Danek at (708) 738-6779 or Tim Tarran at (630) 608-3339 or visit their web site at www.catholiccemetereieschicago.org Remember, it’s not too late to take advantage of the special parish burial purchase discount programs which they presented. The decisions YOU make today will give YOU peace of mind now and your loved one’s peace of mind for THEIR tomorrows.

Help the Handicapped

St. Fabian SPRED Program is looking for volunteers who are 18 years or older to give a few hours of their time to help with the

Knights of Columbus Intellectual Disabilities Tootsie Roll Drive to be held on

Friday, September 20th and Saturday, September 21st

and before and after all the Masses the weekend of September 21st & 22nd.

The money earned from this drive will support our SPRED Program for the upcoming year. SPRED (Special Religious Education Division) is a ministry that serves the needs of our special

friends by helping them grow in their awareness of God. We currently service 26 handicapped adults and meet with them bi-weekly for catechesis. This drive is SPRED’S only means of support, unless someone gives us a direct donation.

There is no age limitations for collecting in businesses, banks, stores and at our Masses, but on the street corners you must be 18 years old. Funds are donated by the amount of hours worked.

Interested individuals can register with their requested times of commitment to:

Dave Kroll, K of C Drive Chairman — 773-505-3408 or [email protected] Paula Daley, SPRED Chairman — 708-458-2562 or [email protected]

Sign up will take place the weekend of September 14th & 15th in the Narthex after all Masses. Look for the signup sheets on the Narthex table.

Not sure of your schedule — just show up at Hann Funeral Home, 8230 S. Harlem Avenue, between the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 20th & 21st or talk to one of the K.C’s before the

Mass you are attending. There will be spots available at various banks if you feel the need to sit.

If everyone gives just a little time, our “special friends” will gain so much!

PIERWSZE CZYTANIE

Moj¿esz jednak zacz¹³ usilnie b³agaæ Pana, Boga swego, i mówiæ: „Dlaczego, Panie, p³onie gniew Twój przeciw ludowi Twemu, który wyprowadzi³eœ z ziemi egipskiej wielk¹ moc¹ i siln¹ rêk¹? Oto S³owo Bo¿e.

PSALM RESPONSORYJNY:

Ps 51,3-4.12-13.17 i 19

Zmi³uj siê nade mn¹, Bo¿e, w ³askawoœci swojej, w ogromie swej litoœci zg³adŸ moj¹ nieprawoœæ. Obmyj mnie zupe³nie z mojej winy i oczyœæ mnie z grzechu mojego. Stwórz, o Bo¿e, we mnie serce czyste i odnów we mnie moc ducha. Panie, otwórz wargi moje, a usta moje bêd¹ g³osiæ Twoj¹ chwa³ê. Bo¿e, moj¹ ofiar¹ jest duch skruszony, pokornym i skruszonym sercem Ty, Bo¿e, nie gardzisz.

DRUGIE CZYTANIE

1 Tm 1,12-17 Chrystus przyszed³ na œwiat zbawiæ grzeszników

Czytanie z Pierwszego listu œwiêtego Paw³a Aposto³a do Tymoteusza

Dziêki sk³adam Temu, który miê przyoblek³ moc¹, Chrystusowi Jezusowi, naszemu Panu, ¿e uzna³ mnie za godnego wiary, skoro przeznaczy³ do pos³ugi mnie, ongiœ bluŸniercê, przeœladowcê i oszczercê. Dost¹pi³em jednak mi³osierdzia, poniewa¿ dzia³a³em z

Amen. Oto S³owo Bo¿e.

ŒPIEW PRZED EWANGELI¥:

2 Kor 5,19

W Chrystusie Bóg pojedna³ œwiat ze sob¹, nam zaœ przekaza³ s³owo jednania.

EWANGELIA

£k 15,1-32 Radoœæ z nawrócenia grzesznika

S³owa Ewangelii wed³ug œwiêtego £ukasza

Zbli¿ali siê do Jezusa wszyscy celnicy i grzesznicy, aby Go s³uchaæ. A znalaz³szy j¹, sprasza przyjació³ki i s¹siadki i mówi: «Cieszcie siê ze mn¹, bo znalaz³am drachmê, któr¹ zgubi³am».

Nied³ugo potem m³odszy syn, zabrawszy wszystko, odjecha³ w dalekie strony i tam roztrwoni³ swój maj¹tek, ¿yj¹c rozrzutnie. A gdy wszystko wyda³, nasta³ ciê¿ki g³ód w owej krainie i on sam zacz¹³ cierpieæ niedostatek. Poszed³ i przysta³ do jednego z obywateli owej krainy, a ten pos³a³ go na pola, ¿eby pas³ œwinie. Zabiorê siê i pójdê do mego ojca, i powiem mu: Ojcze zgrzeszy³em przeciw Bogu i wzglêdem ciebie, ju¿ nie jestem godzien nazywaæ siê twoim synem: uczyñ miê choæby jednym z najemników». Wybra³ siê wiêc i poszed³ do swojego ojca. A gdy by³ jeszcze daleko, ujrza³ go jego ojciec i wzruszy³ siê g³êboko; wybieg³ naprzeciw niego, rzuci³ mu siê na szyjê i uca³owa³ go. A syn rzek³ do niego: «Ojcze, zgrzeszy³em przeciw Bogu i wzglêdem ciebie, ju¿ nie jestem godzien nazywaæ siê twoim synem». PrzyprowadŸcie utuczone cielê i zabijcie: bêdziemy ucztowaæ i bawiæ siê; poniewa¿ ten mój syn by³ umar³y, a znów o¿y³; zagin¹³, a odnalaz³ siê». I zaczêli siê bawiæ. Tymczasem starszy jego syn przebywa³ na polu. Gdy wraca³ i by³ blisko domu, us³ysza³ muzykê i tañce. Przywo³a³ jednego ze s³ug i pyta³ go, co to znaczy. Ten mu rzek³: «Twój brat powróci³, a ojciec twój kaza³ zabiæ utuczone cielê, poniewa¿ odzyska³ go zdrowego». Lecz on mu odpowiedzia³: «Moje dziecko, ty zawsze jesteœ przy mnie i wszystko moje do ciebie nale¿y. A trzeba siê weseliæ i cieszyæ z tego, ¿e ten brat twój by³ umar³y, a znów o¿y³; zagin¹³, a odnalaz³ siê»”. Oto s³owo Pañskie.
