From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:Happy Easter! With the Church, we celebrate the Easter Season for 50 days, through

Pentecost Sunday (May 31 this year) On Pentecost, we remember the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Upper Room (Acts 2) In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting civil directives, we do well to remember that God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit has called not only the Apostles and Jesus’ Mother, but each of us to be His disciples, to give witness to His Resurrection, to live the God-given virtues of faith, hope and love, in our words and deeds In light of this call, in the Gospel this Sunday, we read about Our Lord calling the disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35), reminding us all to recognize Him in His Word and Holy Eucharist

This year, as we’ve been persevering by God’s grace through this challenging time of the pandemic, the majority of people’s experience of the Eucharist has been a spiritual one because there have been no public celebrations of the Holy Mass since March 17 Except for priests offering Masses privately, nearly all Catholic Christians, faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, have been making spiritual Communions As a result, many people, I hope and pray, have developed an increased longing for the Eucharist, to physically attend Mass in church and to literally receive Jesus Christ in the mystery of Holy Communion And many folks have realized or been reminded of what really matters in the life that God has given us here on earth: our faith, our relationship with God, our families and friends, and what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Only Savior of the world A question we might ask is: What does it mean to be “Resurrection-disciples,” disciples of Jesus Christ crucified and risen from the dead? Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI (Seek That Which is Above) and Pope Francis (The Joy of the Gospel) give us some guidance:

The first message of the Risen Lord, communicated by means of the angels and the women is: Come, follow me; I am going before you! Resurrection-disciples step forward in faith, hope and love to follow Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life ( John 14:6) Saint John and Saint Luke state very clearly where and how Christ has gone and where we are to follow Him: to Heaven ( John 20; Acts 1-2) Jesus Christ tells Mary Magdalene that she has to wait until He has ascended before she can hold on to Him – and now we can hold on to and follow Jesus in His Church, Word, Sacraments and prayer That is why Christian tradition deliberately speaks of following Jesus Christ crucified and risen from the dead and ascended into Heaven We follow, not a dead man, but the living Christ, without compromises, in faithful holy boldness Resurrection-disciples embrace the Cross and the Resurrection and Christ’s divine Sonship, accepting the entire path of Jesus Christ, focused on Heaven, our eternal home, going forward into those things that are above, the divine things that are the real ones: truth, faith, hope, love, and our being children of God

Resurrection-disciples step forward in genuine selflessness in order to find what it is to be a human being, a child of God, so as to discover and communicate the joy, truth, beauty and goodness of the Lord that the world so urgently needs Christian disciples have a duty to manifest the fruits of the Holy Spirit – joy, love, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22-23) – in our words and deeds as we strive by God’s grace to live the greatest of all the virtues, love, keeping the two great Commandments, love of God and love of neighbor

Let’s keep praying for an end to the pandemic, for a cure and a morally responsible vaccine to be developed, for our homes and the entire economy to be re-opened, for God’s strength, courage, healing and peace for us all Please be assured of my prayers for you and your families every day, especially at Mass By God’s grace, may we faithfully and joyfully follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, as Resurrection-disciples, giving witness to Him in our words and deeds, asking for His mercy, being merciful and completely trusting in Jesus Christ, the Only Savior of the world Amen! Alleluia!

With peace and prayers in Christ,Fr. William Vernon

FAMILY PROMISE NEWSOur host week for Family Promise concludes today, Sunday, April 26 We want to thank everyone who fixed meals or brought in needed food items for the two families we are serving Please know how much your generosity and kindness is appreciated by the families We want to thank especially Peg Jonas who organized the meals for the week with our volunteers in addition to being a meal provider

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION PRAYERMy Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed

Sacrament I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You Never permit me to be separated from You Amen

REMINDER FOR RICE BOWL DONATIONSPlease drop off the rice bowl donations to the parish office as

soon as possible Checks should be made payable to St Clement Parish One check from church along with a check from St Clement School family donations will be sent to the Missionaries of Charity, the order founded by Saint Teresa of Calcutta, as well as to Mary’s Meals (marysmealsorg)

FAITH FORMATION AT HOMELast Sunday was Divine Mercy Sunday, and throughout this

past week on our parish’s Facebook page, we shared clips from Fr Michael Gaitley’s video, “DIVINE MERCY: In the Second Greatest Story Ever Told” You can view this excellent video study of God’s endless mercy by going to FORMEDorg In this series, you will learn more about Our Lady of Fatima, St Maximillian Kolbe, St Faustina, Pope John Paul II and more, and how each directs us to know more fully the infinite mercy of God You can find this video, and many more, at FORMEDorg

A NEW SPRINGTIME OF FAITHWith the beginning of May fast approaching, our thoughts

naturally turn to Springtime as flowers bloom, trees burst forth, and fieldwork begins We certainly see this too during this Easter Season in the First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles The Apostles and others burst forth from the Upper Room in Jerusalem, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and began their proclamation of salvation through Jesus Christ, crucified and risen from the dead Their witness took them forth to the ends of the earth Pope St John Paul II saw and called for a “New Springtime of the Church” as he urged all Catholics to experience anew the mercy and love of Jesus Christ, and then to share that with others The Diocese of Madison is looking forward to a “new springtime” of evangelization as well We will share more about this endeavor in future bulletins Today we ask the Lord to open our hearts and minds to the ways He desires us to grow closer to Him

THANK YOU, ST. CLEMENT KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS!

St Clement Parish would like to extend a huge “Thank You” to our parish Knights of Columbus and their sons for helping with cemetery clean-up on Saturday, April 18, raking up leaves and branches! Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated We would like to extend our thank you to the following Knights and sons:

Arin Crooks (& son Mason), Rick Benson, Bob Broihahn, Bob Dressler, John Heinrichs, Brad Klaas, Brandon Klaas, Dave Recker, Jeff Reuter, Bill Seyer, Greg Strobush and Mike Tennessen (& sons Henry & James)

FIRST FRIDAY EUCHARISTIC

ADORATION MAY 1 & 2We will have First Friday

Adoration in the main body of the church at Saint Clement, beginning May 1, at 9 am, and concluding Saturday, May 2, with Solemn Benediction at 9 am Please sign up on the schedule near the Fatima Chapel You may come at any time during the 24-hour adoration, however, signing up for just one hour will assure at least one person is in the church at all times keeping vigil with the Blessed Sacrament throughout the day and night Please remember to practice social distancing, but never practice spiritual distancing in our love for God and love for our neighbor Thank you for the donation of your time!

During this First Friday time of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, please include prayers for vocations to the priesthood and religious life Pray too for our seminarians, those in religious formation, our current priests and those in the consecrated religious life Jesus tells us that, “The harvest is rich, but the workers are few; therefore ask the Harvest-Master to send workers for His harvest” (Lk 10:2) Heeding His words, let us pray for vocations

“The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will be the best and most profitable time you will ever spend here on Earth…Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen your union with Him and make your soul everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in Heaven, and will help bring about everlasting peace on Earth” Saint Teresa of Calcutta
