CATHOLIC CHURCH
Saint Clare
WELCOME
A warm welcome to all who have come to worship with us. If you are visiting, we are honored by your presence.
If you are interested in becoming a member, please call the rectory. Our Parish serves the needs of this
community in many ways. We offer preparation for Sacraments, education for children and adults, social activities,
assistance to those in difficulty, comfort to the sick and those who mourn a loss.
If we can be of service, please let us know.
For your convenience, we have blue “Let Us Know” Cards in back of church.

“The Holy Souls are eager for the prayers of the
faithful which can gain indulgences for them. Their
intercession is powerful. Pray unceasingly.
We must empty Purgatory.” St. Padre Pio
2 Welcome to St. Clare Catholic Church
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
This week is National Vocations Awareness week.
This might be a special week to pray with your
family at dinner time for more vocations to the
priesthood/religious life from our families and
parish. And if you haven’t taken the vocations
chalice home for a week perhaps you could
consider doing that. Our Dear Heavenly Father is
a good father to us and wants to give us what we
need, but I believe He does want us to ask Him for
what we need, it shows we appreciate His
goodness. So “ask the master of the harvest to
send laborers into his field…”
Now that November is upon us the Poor and Holy
Souls in Purgatory come to the forefront of our
minds. Purgatory, far from being a morbid or
condemnatory teaching of the Church, is really
an extension of Christ’s great mercy. Christ loves
us so much that even after death He gives us the
opportunity to repair the damages our sin has
caused. Often we see images of Purgatory with
souls surrounded by flames, it is important to
remember that these are not like the flames of
Hell, which torment the soul. The flames of
Purgatory are like the flames coming from the
Sacred Heart of Jesus which burn with great love
and purge us of our attachment to sin…like gold
in the furnace so we are made pure. We here on
earth, have lots of ways to assist our loved ones
(and even those we don’t know) in Purgatory
such as writing their names in the Book of the
Departed to be remembered in all our prayers
during the month, having individual Masses
offered and by enrolling individuals in the Parish
Purgatorial Society. We’ve already received
several enrollments, so we will begin offering a
monthly Mass for those dear souls.
I mentioned last week the Corporal and Spiritual
Works of Mercy. Here are the lists of both…good
things for us all to consider…
The Corporal Works of Mercy:
To feed the hungry;
To give drink to the thirsty;
To clothe the naked;
To harbor the harborless;
To visit the sick;
To ransom the captive;
To bury the dead.
The Spiritual Works of Mercy:
To instruct the ignorant;
To counsel the doubtful;
To admonish sinners;
To bear wrongs patiently;
To forgive offences willingly;
To comfort the afflicted;
To pray for the living and the dead.
God is so good to us, have a blessed week!
Fr. Kunz
Everyday Stewardship . . . . . . I remember attending Catholic school growing up and every year having to
write a report on a saint. We were told that these people of faith were role models for us in our Christian journey.
Even though they were real people, they always seemed to me to be larger than life. When I was younger I never
thought I could become just like them. Now that I am older, I realize that we are all, in fact, called to be just like
them.
Holiness is not something reserved for those in a book of saints. It is the goal of all intentional disciples living as
good stewards. However, it takes commitment to achieve holiness. It also requires us to live mindfully and be
continually aware of how God is moving in our lives.
You may never have thought about a stewardship way of life as a pathway to sainthood, but if you take the time
to read the lives of saints you will see how these heroes truly cultivated the gifts God had given them and gave
them back with increase to God. You will encounter stories of outreach to the poor, comforting the distressed,
and befriending the lonely. And you will begin to see the parallel between what these great disciples did in their
lives with the simple responses to God’s call in your life. The Church may never formally canonize you, but there
will be those whose paths you cross that will bear witness to the fact that at least for a moment they caught a
glimpse of what could have been a living saint.

- MATTHEW 25:13
Many of us have put off doing something
because we think we are too busy. We’ve all
said, “I’ll do it later when I have time.”
Unfortunately, too many of us apply this attitude
to our Faith. Jesus’ call is urgent, in the here and
now, in your current circumstances. Don’t delay,
how is God calling you to use your gifts today?
