Dear Family, Imagine that you were one of the disciples who were with Jesus the day that we hear proclaimed in our Gospel today when He fed the multitudes. You have been there all day long watching Jesus heal all the sick that were present that day. You were probably also part of crowd control so that people would remain somewhat orderly. It would have been exhausting! You talk with the other disciples as it gets late in the day and you all agree that Jesus should be advised to have the people go home to eat. So you go up to Jesus with the other disciples and make that suggestion. Much to your surprise, Jesus says that there is no reason to send them home. He tells you to feed them! You know the size of the crowd but you look around again and you have no idea what to do as you have only five loaves of bread and a couple of fish that would have barely been enough for Jesus and your small group. Jesus has you bring that to Him and He says a blessing. Then He breaks up the food and hands it back to you and tells you to go feed them! What would you have done? Matthew tells us there were 5000 men, not including the women and children! So there were probably at least 10,000 people there! Would you have had enough faith to turn around and start passing out food? Would you have believed that you would make it past the first ten people before you ran out of food? What would your reaction have been as you continue to pass out food and you keep looking in the basket in your hand and see that it never goes empty? Isaiah in our First Reading this weekend prophecies of this time when God would provide food for all without cost. This feeding of the multitudes foreshadowed the Eucharist when Jesus would feed His followers for all time with His own Body and Blood. This is the True Food that God replenishes constantly through the celebration of the Eucharist! Do you believe this? Are you shocked about this? God fulfills His promises! AMEN! Praised Be Jesus Christ…Now and Forever!!!! Father Steve

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
This week’s gospel is one of the many times we hear about Jesus feeding crowds. Whether it is 5000 or 4000 on a mountain side or on a plain, those meals show us the importance of feeding our physical self with good, nutritious substance but even more importantly, feeding our souls with the Good News of Jesus Christ. Interesting fact : The first miracle, the "Feeding of the 5,000", is reported by all four gospels (Matthew 14-Matthew 14:13-21; Mark 6-Mark 6:31-44; Luke 9-Luke 9:12-17; John 6-John 6:1-14). The second miracle, the "Feeding of the 4,000", with seven loaves of bread and fish, is reported by Matthew 15(Matthew 15:32-39) and Mark 8 (Mark 8:1-9), but not by Luke or John. The story of the feeding of a crowd is used at the First Communion retreats before we bake bread, as a way to show the importance of what Jesus teaches us by example. We had to delay the First communion for the third graders this year until September. For those families in the school and Faith formation program we will be in touch with options and further information. Blessings, Marie Sajsa, DRE
