The merger of Saint Casimir’s Church with St. Joseph’s Church is in progress. We will keep you informed as we receive information.

Next weekend, June 8 & 9, we welcome Father Charles Opondo-Owara, pastor of Saint Joseph’s Church to St. Casimir’s, as our celebrant for Mass.

On Saturday, June 29, 2013, there will be the Vigil Mass at 5:30 p.m. On Sunday, June 30, 2013, Father Matt and the people of St. Casimir’s will celebrate the last weekend Mass here at 11:00 a.m. We pray that those who are able will join in this final celebration Mass. There will NOT be an 8:30 Mass on June 30th.

Father Matt will continue to say daily Mass (Monday – Friday) here at St. Casimir’s (combined with St. Joseph’s) through the month of July at 8:00 a.m. Weekend Mass will be at St. Joseph’s (Mass times are listed in the bulletin).

All of St. Casimir’s sacramental information will be kept at St. Joseph’s Church. This includes Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage and Death records. You will be able to obtain a copy of these by calling the St. Joseph’s office when they are needed.

Please be sure to register at the church of your choice by July 1st or as soon as possible. You will be enrolled with envelopes and given information about education programs available for youth and adults, ministries and groups to join and provided opportunities to meet new people.

Please continue to keep the people of our St. Casimir’s parish in your prayers throughout the next few months, as we all face the challenges of change. May the Holy Spirit guide us in all our choices, give us peace, and renew in us the joy and excitement we find in our faith in Jesus Christ.

From the Pastor’s desk …

For many years the Feast of Corpus Christi was celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. How appropriate, since Jesus Christ gave us Gift of His Body and Blood at the Last Supper – on Holy Thursday! But Holy Thursday was filled with other liturgical rites such as the Lord’s example of humble service in washing the feet of His disciples – and the Eucharistic Procession and Adoration at the Altar of Repose.

In the new liturgy the feast is now referred to as the Body AND Blood of Jesus Christ. This title helps to distinguish it from the more recent and more frequent reference to the Church as the “Mystical Body of Christ”. Yes WE are the members of His Body, and Jesus is the Head and Heart of the Church-Body!

Recently Rosalie Bronner brought me a copy of a bulletin from Our Lady of Hope Church in Post Orange, FL. It contained an article entitled “SHOES IN CHURCH”. I am not sure who the author might be. But I believe it fits today’s celebration by the Body of Christ of “The Body and Blood of Christ”.

I showered and shaved, I adjusted my tie. I got there and sat in a pew just in time. Bowing my head in prayer as I closed my eyes, I saw the shoe of the man next to me touching my own, I sighed. With plenty of room on either side I thought, “why must our soles touch?” It bothered me, his shoe touching mine but it didn’t bother him much. A prayer began: “Our Father” … I thought, “this man with the shoes, has no pride. They’re dusty, worn and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!” “Thank You for blessings,” the prayer went on. The ‘shoe man’ said … a quiet “Amen”. I tried to focus on the prayer …But my thoughts were on his shoes again. “Aren’t we supposed to look our best, when walking through that door?” “Well, this certainly isn’t it.” I thought … Glancing towards the floor. Then the prayer was ended … And the songs of praise began. The ‘shoe man’ was certainly loud … Sounding proud as he sang. His voice lifted to the rafters … His hands were raised high. The Lord could surely hear .. the ‘shoe man’s’ voice from the sky! It was time for the offering … And what I threw in was steep. I watched as the ‘shoe man’ reached … into his pockets so deep. I saw what was pulled out … what the ‘shoe man’ put in. Then I heard a soft clink … as when silver hits tin. The sermon really bored me … to tears, - and that’s no lie. It was the same for the ‘shoe man’ … for tears fell from his eyes. At the end of the service ... as is the custom here, We must greet new visitors .. and show them good cheer. But I felt moved somehow … and I wanted to meet the ‘shoe man’. So after the closing prayer…I reached over and shook his hand. . He was old and his skin was dark … and his hair was truly a mess. But I thanked him for coming … for being our ‘guest’. He said, “My name is Charlie … and I am glad to meet you, my friend.” There were tears in his eyes … but he had a large, wide grin. “Let me explain,” he said … wiping tears from his eyes. “I’ve been coming here for months… and you’re the first to say ‘Hi’.” “I know that my appearance … is not like the rest. But I really do try … to always look my best. I always clean and polish my shoes … before my very long walk, But by the time I get here … they’re dirty and dusty – like chalk.” My heart filled with pain … and I swallowed to hide my tears. As he continued to apologize … for daring to sit so near, He said, “When I get here … I know I must look a sight, But I thought if I could touch, ... then maybe our souls might unite.” I was silent for a moment … knowing whatever was said Would pale in comparison … I spoke from my heart, not my head. “Oh, you’ve touched me” I said … ”and taught me, in part, That the best of any man … is what is found in the heart.” May the Body of Christ touch your soul … & …soles. HAPPY FEAST DAY – to ALL the members of the BODY of CHRIST!

Next Sunday at the 8:30 A.M. Mass, we honor our 2013 Graduates, Jacob Bowen and Ellen Coon. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors. We are proud of each of you!
