My Dear Parishioners,

It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving

is this coming Thursday! I love this na-

tional holiday because it is the one time of

the year when the citizens of this country,

no matter their religion or ethnic back-

ground, can unite as one people in thanks-

giving and give praise to God. When we

see that there are people who want to take away by radical

force the freedoms we enjoy, it should make us appreciate our

blessings even more, and yes, give thanks.

To assist you in the true celebration of Thanksgiving, I

urge you to come to Mass on Thanksgiving here at St.

Bede's at 9am. There is no obligation to attend - it is not a

holy day of obligation, and so all the more reason to show

God that your gratitude is genuine. Also, take note of the

Thanksgiving Table Blessing on page 3 of today's bulletin.

If you don't already have a customary prayer that you use for

your family's celebration, cut out the one in the bulletin and

use it this year.

In that spirit of Thanksgiving, I want to thank you for par-

ticipating in the recent "Called by Name" Vocation Initia-

tive. Twenty-four young men were nominated by you, their

fellow parishioners, because you believe that they have the

qualities of a future priest. A number of young men received

multiple nominations. All of these nominees are being con-

tacted by Mr. John Gaul, our Parish Vocation Coordinator,

to inform them of their nomination. This will be followed by a

letter from me, congratulating them and informing them of

upcoming discernment/discovery opportunities at St. Charles

Seminary.

It should be noted that this program is not an attempt to

pressure anyone into a decision. Rather, it is a way that

young men who have been nominated by their fellow parish-

ioners, and who may be inclined to consider the priesthood,

can receive further information and guidance by me and the

priests of our parish. In the meantime, I thank you for your

continual prayers for vocations. It is my prayer that the

"Called by Name" Vocation Initiative has given us all

"permission" to keep the conversation about priestly voca-

tions alive, in our families and in our parish.

Finally, I encourage you to take an opportunity to look at

the recent renovations in our Adoration Chapel, that includes

new lighting, carpeting and re-upholstered furniture. After

close to 15 years of constant use, it was time for a "sprucing

up." I thank the two families whose generous donations al-

lowed it all to happen.

Happy Thanksgiving!

November 29, 2015 Jeremiah 33: 14-16

Psalm 25

1 Thessalonians 3: 9-13

Luke 21: 25-36

All of our scripture readings alert us that the day of the

Lord is approaching. In the Gospel, Jesus warns us not to

become drowsy and allow ourselves to be surprised by the

coming of the Lord. The reading from Isaiah tells us that the

One who is coming is a just Lord. How can we be vigilant

for the coming of this just Lord? Saint Paul tells us in his

letter to the Thessalonians “May He so strengthen your

hearts in holiness that you may be blameless before our God

and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His

saints.”

A THANKSGIVING

TABLE BLESSING

Introduction We gather today (this evening) to give thanks to

God for His gifts to this land and its people, for God

has been generous to us. As we ask God’s blessing

upon the food we will share with our families, may we

be mindful of those in need.

Prayer of Blessing God most provident,

We join all creation

In raising to you a hymn of thanksgiving

Through Jesus Christ, your Son.

For generation upon generation

Peoples of this land have sung of your bounty;

We too offer you praise

For the rich harvest we have received

at your hands.

Bless us and this food which we share

with grateful hearts.

Continue to make our land fruitful

and let our love for you be seen

in our pursuit of peace and justice

and in our generous response to those in need.

Praise and glory to you, Lord God, now

and for ever. Amen

Statement of Archbishop

Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap,

Regarding the Tragedy in Paris

God is the source of love and life. People

who kill in his name are not martyrs or saints,

but murderers. Pilgrims from Paris and across

France traveled thousands of miles in Septem-

ber to take part in the joy of World of Meeting

Families. Their presence graced us all. We join

with the Church in France in this moment of

national suffering. I ask the clergy and people of the Archdiocese

of Philadelphia to pray in a special way in the coming days for the

families of all those killed in Paris.

Dear Parishioners,

As God decorates the hillsides with the

beautiful autumn leaves, our thoughts turn to

Thanksgiving. In the United States, Thanks-

giving Day is a holiday that is among the

nation's finest national traditions. For what

do we thank our Creator? The early Ameri-

can colonists, who gave inspiration to the Thanksgiving Day

tradition, were thankful for their very survival in a harsh and

unforgiving environment. Many of their friends were buried in

the soil of their new land. It's natural to thank God when things

seem to turn out the way we had hoped, when disaster is avert-

ed, when life seems filled with abundance. Harder, perhaps, is

the ability to thank God for being present to us in times of

struggle, seeming failure, illness and death. But, in the heart of

the Christian, the memory of God's presence is a comfort and

gift all its own. If we take time to reflect on our lives, we often

discover that for which we are most grateful was a gift which

we struggled to receive. What came to us in the form of hard-

ship has in hindsight revealed itself as gift. This is why each

day's struggles and trials should be met with a heartfelt "thank

you." Gratitude lies at the beginning of true prayer. As we

reflect during this time of thanksgiving, let us be present to

those moments when God's gifts are hidden and remember to

be thankful for all. Let us keep each other in prayer.

Create an Advent Wreath

For Your Family The Advent wreath is part of our

long-standing Catholic tradition. It is

most fitting that Advent is the beginning

of the liturgical calendar, for it is a sea-

son of spiritual preparation marked by an

eager longing for the birth of our Savior

Jesus Christ.

Come join other members of our parish as we once again ex-

plore the wonder and purpose of Advent and look at ways to keep

the season filled with joyful expectation. On Sunday November

29 at 3 p.m., parishioners of all ages - adults, youth and children

- will come together in the Drexel Center to make an Advent

Wreath and learn how to make the most of Advent through prayer

and reflection.

The cost for supplies will be $15.00 per family. Please bring

your own clippers to cut the greens. We hope you will join us as

we gather to deepen our appreciation for Advent and to share our

faith in Jesus Christ with one another.

Tenth Annual ADVENT MASS AND

GIFT GIVING

Wednesday, December 2, 2014 7 p.m. in Saint Bede Church

Social with light refreshments follows

♦ Advent is the season during which St. John the Baptist calls us to prepare our hearts to receive our

newborn King, Jesus Christ.

♦ One of the best ways to prepare is to give our hearts to Him by our loving care of those in need. ♦ At this special liturgy, you are asked to please bring a wrapped gift with a tag specifying the contents of

the package (e.g., child’s game ages 4 to 8; shirt for boy size 10; toy for girl age 7).

(Please no previously used items.) ♦ These wrapped gifts will be carried up by each family or individual in the Offertory Procession. (Please understand that this gesture is not intended to place a burden on anyone and you are not

obligated to bring a gift. Your presence is a gift in itself.) ♦ Fr. Gus Puleo and representative laity from St. Patrick Parish, Norristown will be present to receive

these gifts on behalf of the needy in their parishes. ♦ The Hispanic Choir of St. Patrick will join their voices in praise with us and our Teen Choir.

Adoration SocietyAdoration Society

Many of you visit the chapel on a regular basis but are not yet

enrolled as regular members of the St. Bede Adoration Society. We

need your help!

Please consider pledging an hour a week to spend with Jesus. We

currently have eleven open hours where Jesus is alone. Please consid-

er becoming a guardian of the Blessed Sacrament by spending an

hour of quiet prayer and meditation with our Lord Jesus. Even if you

are only able to commit on a partial basis (not every week), please

contact us. The following hours are currently open: Sunday 11AM,

1PM & 6PM, Monday 7PM, Tuesday 2AM, Wednesday 3PM, Friday

12AM & 5AM, Saturday 2AM, 5AM & 6PM.

In everything you do, put God first, and He will direct you and

crown your efforts with success (Prov. 3:6-10).

Dropping by the chapel for a visit is a wonderful practice. Com-

mitting yourself to the Lord by becoming a regular member of the St.

Bede Adoration Society is so much better!

For more information contact Debbie & Sean McDermott
