Volunteers are Needed on Thursday, March 29 and Friday, March 30 from 8:30 a.m. till Noon in Athanasian Hall for prep work for the fish fry. Please call Rick Opiela to

let him know if you are available regardless if you have helped previously at 412-480-9000 or [email protected]. Donations are needed for the fish fry: Soda, powdered lemonade and ice tea mix (can be dropped off at the Parish Center) and desserts are greatly appreciated. Christian Mothers & Ladies of the Parish: Covered dish Tuesday, March 13, at 6 p.m. in Athanasian Hall. Bring your favorite Hot or cold dishes, and desserts. From Little Sisters of the Poor: Thank you for welcoming the Little Sisters of the Poor into your parish for our collection! It was a joy meeting and interacting with parishioners and we certainly appreciate their generosity. Without your help we would not be able to welcome the elderly poor into our Home and provide them with the compassionate care they truly deserve. We are pleased to share that our collection totaled $2,439.24.

This Fourth Sunday of Lent tells us something about the agents of God. In the days of Cyrus, King of Persia, the people of Israel were in a terrible place. The Bible tells of that they added

abomination to abomination. They had been taken over by sin and rejection of God’s covenant. Cyrus becomes God’s agent. Through the preaching of Jeremiah Cyrus is inspired to build a temple of the Lord. This would distract them from their sin and bring them once again into the loving embrace of the creator. It worked – for awhile. Then the people fell back into their old ways. The Gospel reminds us first of all of Moses another agent of God who brings God’s Law and his covenant to the people. Then, in his instruction to Nicodemus, Jesus reveals himself to be the perfect agent of the Lord, communicating God’s message – to move from the darkness of hate instead of love; vengeance instead of forgiveness; greed instead of sharing; taking instead of giving life into God’s Light. Do you think Nicodemus accepted this teaching and became an agent of God. It’s possible, we don’t know for sure. Can you accept God’s teaching and become his agent It’s possible, but only you know for sure. LENTEN RECONCILIATION (CONFESSIONS): Because the

Bishop has scheduled the traditional 6-9pm confessions for Wednesday, March 21, this will take

the place of our usual parish penance service which

would ordinarily be March 20. The only evening Confessions will be March 21, 6-9pm. We hope to

have extra confessors. All are welcome!

Monthly Rosary & Program with Father Christopher Mannerino: Join the ChristLife Spirit Refill Team of St. Teresa of Avila Parish on Tuesday, March 13 at 7 p.m. for recitation of the Rosary, followed by a presentation by Fr. Chris Mannerino on Our Lady of Knock. The rosary will be said on the 13th of every month at 7 p.m. in the church throughout 2018.

Faith Formation March 12, 2018 6:30—8:00 p.m.

Nicodemus comes to Jesus at night out of fear. He is, after all, a high ranking member of the Jewish council. They sit through the night, on the ground or under a tent with an oil lamp between them. Eyes gazing; fac-es reflected in the light of the lamp. One is filled with questions; the other filled with answers. The hope is that this night would never end. Old images are in-fused with new life, God’s love becomes centralized and begins to bring things into a sharper focus. Nico-demus’ soul is lifted up. Jesus talks about eternal life and that the world would be saved through the Son of God. No prophet in history was more profound. Nicodemus would later learn, standing in the street's of Jerusalem, what “the Son of Man must be lifted up” really means. So moved by witnessing this reality, Nic-odemus assists in the burial of his friend. If we wished to trade places with Nicodemus, we might find ourselves in a dilemma. Christ was be-trayed by his disciple, shamed in front of his family and friends, mocked by his community, condemned by the legal authorities, publicly flogged, and put to death by crucifixion. Any one of these things is enough for a heartbreak. But standing with Nicodemus in the streets of Jerusalem we lift our eyes to Calvary; we sob. We know the rest of the story. Christ’s death was fol-lowed by his resurrection; the incarnate Christ, uses his own great suffering as the final remedy to bring people from death into life, when all other remedies have been tried and failed. Heartbreak was turned into immeasur-able joy. So what about us? Are we able to “lift up our hearts to the Lord.” Listen to the light. Listen to Jesus this Lent. Come to him in the night and listen! Lift up the light and love of the Risen Lord, so others may be healed.

Fourth Sunday of Lent

“For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son … ” So what is your job? Are you one who will tell the world about this love? Name some ways that you can lift up this love. You might you run into difficulties at times? Is it true that you are not alone and that you will always receive the grace you need?
