SUMMER SCHEDULE Pastor Merry will be out of town from Monday, June 22nd, through Monday, July 13th. She will be attending a conference and spending some time with her parents. She will also be away the last weekend in July to perform her niece’s wedding. While she is

away, Rev. Phil Jamison and Rev. Jim Campbell will be leading us in worship. Rev. Jim Swanson will be available in case of emergencies. If you have a pastoral care need or concern, please call Danielle at our church office or Rev. Swanson at Covenant (724-712-1407).

All in the Family The sympathy and resurrection faith of the congre-gation go out to Rev. Fred Young. His wife, Kathy, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2015. A memorial

service for Kathy will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11:00 am at Hill United Presbyterian Church.

Dear Friends,

It is hard to put into words how we sometimes feel. As I look at the cards you sent to Kathy and me, I can only say a heartfelt Thank You. Kathy was a special person. What a gift I was given by God to have her companionship for 55 years. She had as peaceful a death as one could have. I am glad her suffering is now over and she is whole again with our Lord. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and kindness to both of us. I look forward to being with you again, but I still have some physical healing before I can get back to normal activity.

“Swing Into Summer” Thank You Thank you to everyone who helped with our “Swing Into Sum-mer” celebration. The Nurture Team (Janice King, Jon McKay, John Ripper, and Stephanie Slezak) did a wonderful job planning, organizing, and hosting the meal. Special thanks to Bud Weck-

erly who grilled hotdogs on his custom-designed cooker in the torrential rain, and then cheerfully sang his heart out with the Syria Shrine Chanters in the sanctuary. Thanks also to everyone who brought dessert. The evening’s winner was Alyssa Ripper’s Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes. Finally, a huge thank you to Janice King for making the quilt that was raffled off. Thanks to Janice and all of you, nearly $300 was raised for mission!

Summer hours at the church office will begin on Monday, June

15th. The office will be closed on Mondays and Fridays. Tuesday

through Thursday, it will be open from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm. Regu-

lar office hours will resume on Monday, August 17th.

Alyssa Nicole O’Day

Alyssa is graduating from Butler Senior High School. Through the years, she was involved in

soccer, cheerleading, and basketball. She was a member of the high school track team and

plays softball for Butler Township. She was also a member of the National Junior Honors So-

ciety. She has worked at Burger King since her junior year in high school. This fall, she will

attend Waynesburg University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Hope Lauren Radvinski

Hope is graduating from Butler Senior High School. She has participated in the Yearbook

Club, Honors Chorus, Girls Ensemble and has studied guitar and photography. An accom-

plished dancer, Hope has studied at the Pine Tree Performing Arts Studio for the last 5 years.

Before that, she danced at SheLor for 7 years. She enjoys music, spending time with family

and friends, her dog Lacey, her cats Midnight, Chelsea, and Mr. Pretty Face, and going to Ge-

neva on the Lake and the beach.

Through the years, she has been involved in many different facets of Saint Andrews’

life and ministry. This fall, she will attend Westminster College. She is the recipient of the

Gerb Miller Scholarship, the PAA Community Service Scholarship and the Butler Rotary

Scholarship . Hope says she is excited about the opportunities Westminster offers to grow both

academically and spiritually. She writes, “I am blessed to have such a strong foundation of

faith and I am grateful to Pastor Merry, my church family, my Sunday school teachers, and my

family who have helped nurture and guide me.”

Jessica Sinclair White

Jessica is graduating from Butler Senior High School. She was a member of the mock trial

team, the soccer team, the National Honor Society, the French Club and the Future Business

Leaders of America. She also participated in the model United Nations and the musical theater

program. This fall, Jess will attend Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, PA

where she plans on majoring in Business (perhaps Economics) and Pre-Law. Her long-term

goals include going to law school somewhere warm (she writes, “these Western Pennsylvania

winters are not for me!) and then working in elder law or business law.

“For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope.” Jeremiah 29: 11

Our community dinner teams need your help. On the first Wednesday of

every month, different teams from Saint Andrews provide a warm nutritious

meal for our hungry neighbors. The menu always includes a variety of yum-

my desserts, but lately we’ve been running short on goodies. Can you help

by baking a cake once a month? The desserts don’t need to be fancy, just tasty. All it takes is a 9

X 13 pan, some ingredients, and your love and skill.

We also need volunteers to help set-up, serve, and clean-up the day of the meal. For more in-

formation or to volunteer, please contact Terri Bonnett or the church office. Thanks!

Congratulations Class of 2015! We will be honoring our graduates during worship on

Sunday, June 14, 2015. Here’s a brief glimpse of just a few of their

accomplishments and plans for the future:

David Gene Fleeger

David is graduating from Butler Senior High School. He was on the football team and played

basketball at Cubs Hall. In his free time, he loves wake-surfing, being on the water at Conneaut

Lake and the river, and spending time with family and friends. This fall, he will attend Slippery

Rock University where he plans on majoring in Marketing and Management.

David says he is grateful for all the blessings in his life thus far.

Hannah Jane Hayes

Earlier this spring, Hannah graduated Cum Laude from the University of Richmond in Virginia

with a B.A. in Leadership Studies. She has accepted a position with Deloitte in Washington

D.C. She is the daughter of Danny and Christie (Riesmeyer) Hayes of Blue Bell, PA and the

granddaughter of Barbara and Russ Thomas and the late Norman H. Riesmeyer. Hannah was

baptized at Saint Andrews.

Allison Eileen Martin

In May, Allison graduated Cum Laude from Slippery Rock University with a B.A.S. in Educa-

tion. She completed a dual major in Early Childhood (PreK—4th Grade) and Special Education

(PreK—8th Grade). She has served as a volunteer for Santa’s Workshop and Olympic Day at

the Butler Catholic School. She also worked as a Lead Teacher at the YMCA, where she coor-

dinated the after-school program for children in K—6th Grades. For the last five years, she has

supervised our nursery and helped out with our Sunday school and Children’s Church. We

have been blessed by her presence! Allison is currently applying for local teaching positions.

She plans to earn her Master’s degree after teaching for a few years.

Lernerville Speedway Outing Calling all gearheads! Start your engines and come on out for an even-ing of family fun at the Lernerville Speedway on Friday, June 19th. Tickets are $14 for everyone 18 years and older, $10 for adults 60 years and older, and $7 for youth ages 11 to 17. Admission for children 10 and

under is free. The races begin at 7:30 pm. We will meet at 7:00 pm at the Cooper Station Restaurant. For more information or to reserve tickets, please contact the church office or Chuck King (724-285-1289).

Saint Andrews needs a few good bakers. We are supplying desserts for Meals on Wheels for the month of July. Ideas for baked goods include: Cookies—No Nuts or Icing Bundt Cakes—No Icing Gingerbread Pies—All Kinds Except Cream Pies Cupcakes—No Icing Angel Food Cakes Please have the items packed for the freezer. Baked goods can be deliv-ered to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, at the corner of Jefferson & Cliff Streets, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 10 am. June First Sunday Mission Offering Our First Sunday Mission Offering in June goes to the Lighthouse Foundation in Middlesex Township. The Lighthouse offers a vari-ety of services including emergency shelter, a food bank, career

counseling, emergency rent and utility assistance, senior citizen programs, youth club and summer camp. A faith tech computer center and Christian family bookstore are also provided.

The Lighthouse serves southern Butler County from 1302 Cruikshank Road at Rt. 8. If you would like to make a donation, simply mark your check “Lighthouse” or use one of the “First Sunday Mission Offering” envelopes found in the pew racks. July First Sunday Mission Offering Our First Sunday Mission Offering in July goes to the McKee Memorial Fund

to support the work of PCUSA mission co-worker Dr. Barbara Nagy. A

board-certified physician in both pediatrics and internal medicine, Barbara

serves at Nkhoma Hospital in Malawi. She directs children’s health services

at the hospital, teaches medical and nursing students, and has become increasingly engaged in

finding ways to provide basic health education and preventive medicine (such as vaccinations

and prenatal care) to local villages and communities.

Barbara says “I feel God has called me to live out the gospel of his love for everyone by work-

ing in a healing ministry in central Malawi, where death and disease limit the lives of fellow

Christians and keep them from attaining all God intended for them.”

Malawi is one of the most densely populated nations in sub-Saharan Africa. The country is

very poor; 73% of the population lives below the poverty line. Most Malawians are subsistence

farmers. Their challenges include poor access to education, endemic malaria, malnutrition, ex-

tremely high maternal mortality, and the spread of HIV/AIDS. Seventy-five percent of the pop-

ulation is Christian. Many are Presbyterian.

To help support Barbara’s work, simply use the envelope marked “McKee Missions Offering”

in the July section of your envelope booklet or use a “First Sunday Mission Offering” envelope

from the pew racks. Thank you!
