———CALENDAR OF THE WEEK———
Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
Thank you to all who participated in our annu-
al OLGC Golf tournament this weekend. It could not have
been a success without you. This is the weekend that we
will also be recognizing our graduating seniors who have
continued after Confirmation to serve their parish commu-
nities. May they have great success in all they undertake!
This weekend also is the culmination of the Easter
Season in the celebration of Pentecost, the outpouring of
the Holy Spirit on the Church. If you remember what hap-
pened in the Garden of Eden according to the Book of Gen-
esis, prior to the fall, Adam and Eve walked in harmony
with God and with one another, without fear or shame, in
complete intimacy with God. The great effect of sin was a
breaking of that intimacy with God, an intimacy that Christ
came to restore: “I have called you friends,” he tells his
disciples. But the way in which Jesus does this is by the
sending of the Holy Spirit: “I will send you another advo-
cate, who will be with you always, the Spirit of
truth.” (John, chap. 16). The indwelling of the Holy Spirit
is the way in which that intimacy, once shared by God and
the human race, is restored. It is the other half of Christ’s
mission—not just redemption but sanctification as well,
which is why he could say “It is accomplished,” at the mo-
ment when he “handed over the Spirit” from the cross in
John’s account of the crucifixion. Let us all pray for a
deepening and strengthening of the indwelling of the Holy
Spirit in us, that we might always live in friendship with
God, who promises, through the Holy Spirit to be with us,
always, until the end of time.
Fr. Michael

Pentecost Sunday
Happy birthday to the Catholic Church!
Did you know you have a second
birthday? Because you are part of the
body of the Church, Pentecost is the
Church's birthday, and yours as well. And like any birthday,
it's a cause for celebration.
The word Pentecost is Greek and it means "50th day."
Fifty days after Easter Sunday, we celebrate the coming of
the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and their followers, and
the beginning of their Earthly ministry to make disciples of
all nations.
At Pentecost, the Apostles and their followers were gath-
ered in a room. Jews from all over the world were gathered
with Peter, the leader of the Apostles and the Eleven. At
this time, a great wind blew and a flame appeared as a
tongue of fire, which split itself into many individual flames
above the heads of all those present. The Holy Spirit came
upon these people and each began to speak in tongues. De-
spite the fact many had no common language, they were
perfectly able to understand one another. These people
were among the first Catholics, and Peter is the first pope of
the Catholic Church.
The symbols of Pentecost are the flame, wind, and the
dove, which represents the Holy Spirit. The color of Pente-
cost is red and the priest wears red vestments on this day.
Parishioners are also invited to wear red on this day. Red
decorations as well as celebrations are appropriate, similar
to any other birthday. Special prayers are often said just for
Pentecost. (Excerpt from catholic.org)

the Office of Family Life Education (A
Hope Appeal Agency)
Today’s gospel tells us God actually
wants to take up residence in your family, “We will come
and make our home with you.” Every family is called to
be a tabernacle where God dwells. Is Jesus a permanent
member of your family or a temporary guest? Today the
promise is given. The choice is ours.
