December 9, 2018

Dear Parishioners,

We are already into the second Sunday of the

season of Advent. The church, in its celebrations of

Christ’s life, sets up periods of time set aside for preparation

of events in Christ’s life.

Our Sunday liturgies take on a different appearance.

For example the church is less decorated, the vestments are

of a more somber color and the music and its texts take on a

specific character.

The Second Sunday of Advent uses as its theme the

role of John the Baptist. The phrase from todays Gospel “A

voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the

Lord” gives a perfect definition of John’s role in Christ’s

life. He is calling the crowds to listen to Christ’s call.

When we sing the refrain of today’s song at the

Preparation of Gifts let us ask ourselves if we really are a

voice crying out in the wilderness of today’s world.

Joe Wozniak, Music Ministry
