St. Aloysius Parish Mission Statement
St. Aloysius Parish is a Roman Catholic
community dedicated to celebrating the life
and word of Jesus Christ. All are welcome
to deepen their spiritual and personal lives
through active participation in weekly
Liturgy, the celebration of the Sacraments,
Parish ministries and community activities.
Acknowledging our incompleteness and our
need for God’s grace, we commit ourselves,
through Baptism, to responding to God’s
call to become and grow as disciples of Jesus
Christ in our time. Jesus Christ is at the
center of all of our lives.

St. Aloysius Book Club
Meets on Thursdays at 7 pm on the first floor
of the Parish Center. The book selection:
January 25: “Hillbilly Elegy” by JD Vance
As always, Happy Reading. All are invited for
good conversation & good company.
Dear Parishioners,
Watch out! Heads up! Look out! And for
golfers out there, fore!! Anytime we hear any of these
words we immediately become alert, all of our senses
sharpen up and start to try to find the source of on-
coming danger. In this, our first Sunday of Advent,
the very first words spoken by our Lord to his disci-
ples and to us are, “Be watchful! Be alert!”.
This time of Advent is a time of preparation.
We know that we have to be watchful for the coming
of Our Lord at Christmas. Our Lord invites us to
sharpen our spiritual senses. I would like to suggest
two practices that we can undertake this Advent so
that we can be prepared to welcome the Lord into our
hearts this Christmas.
Be still. We are constantly on the go. We
have to juggle between work, school, sport activities
for the kids, house work and a myriad of other activi-
ties that keep us bouncing from one place to another.
With so much going on in our lives it is important that
we press the pause button once in a while to gather
ourselves and spend some time in the presence of the
Lord. All it takes is five minutes. We can do this at
home, in the car, at the office, and of course at church.
Hopefully our stillness can then lead us into our next
advent practice.
Be silent. God wants to enter into our hearts
this Advent and do something special in our lives, but
in order for Him to enter into our home we have to
answer the door. There is so much noise around us
that it can be difficult to perceive the presence of the
Lord as he draws near to us in our daily lives. We are
distracted by noise from our phones, the radio, the TV,
the computer and so many other things. If we can put
these things on hold at different times during our day,
then we could prepare our hearts to listen to the voice
of the Lord who speaks in the stillness and silence of
our hearts.
Happy Advent,
Fr. Juan Jose

Dear Parishioners, Welcome to St. Aloysius, Fr. Thomas Blind. Fr. Tom has been assigned to residence at our parish while pursuing non-parish ministry. He will assist us at weekend Masses and, when possible, for weekday Mass. With Fr. Tom here now, we will no longer have the good services of Fr. Ciaran Fergus, O.P. We thank him for his assistance.
John Fiore owns a landscaping business and he was extremely generous to our parish this Fall. He donated and planted all the large yellow mums; he also did edging and
trimming, etc. Thank you, John Fiore.
It’s appropriate that St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark has renamed it’s facility to “Ms. Barbara Maran Kitchen”. Barbara’s selfless dedication to our Lord’s poor-est children in our area was both admirable in itself but also led others to share their food (meatloaves) with the needy. May her good soul rest in peace.
The beautiful tree ornaments marking our 125th anniversary are available for $10 each. They are really beautiful! Someone you know might love one as a Christ-mas gift. They are available at the rectory.
The Mighty Message of Mark. As we begin the new Year of Grace, the liturgical cycle, today, the Gospel according to St. Mark will be proclaimed. Chaos was all over the Roman empire at the time Mark was written down (c. 70 A.D.). Emperor Titus had destroyed Jerusalem and the great Temple. The young Christian Church had to nav-igate through troubled waters. In Mark’s Gospel, Jesus reveals Himself to be the Savior of all who believe in Him. As Advent begins, what do we need to be rescued from? Think deeply. Sincerely in Christ, Msgr. Desmond
