Application areas for SafetyEYE

There are two aspects to safety: safety and security. The term

“Safety” defi nes the guarding function – for example, where it’s

necessary to protect people from hazardous machinery and ma-

chinery from material damage. With “security” the focus is on

object protection – access to buildings or protecting exhibits in a

museum for example. In both of these areas SafetyEYE provides

uninterrupted operation and guarantees the highest level of safety.

Leading technology – 3D warning and detection zones at the click of a mouse.

Everything within view

SafetyEYE protects your plant from a bird’s

eye view. Today’s applications require a

multitude of sensors, but in future the danger

zone will be enveloped in a customised pro-

tective cocoon.

The zone that is to be monitored is defi ned

by a virtual envelope curve, which is sur-

rounded by warning zones and detection

zones. Any object that encroaches into these

zones and exceeds a defi ned minimum size

is immediately detected and reported.

Hazard detected – hazard averted

If the object is in the warning zone, processes are slowed down but can continue. Only in

the closest protected area will SafetyEYE trigger an emergency stop command or safety

alarm. This way processes can be precision controlled and can have fl exible safeguards.

SafetyEYE is the fi rst safe camera system

SafetyEYE means “sight-based” monitoring.

Wherever safety and/or security are an issue,

SafetyEYE is ever present: extremely fl exible,

intelligent and simple to operate.

SafetyEYE can perform both safety-related

and standard control functions. So it can

guarantee both ergonomic processes and

effi cient results.

Unlike conventional safety devices it doesn’t

just monitor one level – but as many levels

as you like, and in 3D too. So completely new

horizons are opened up.

Combine and integrate ...

The overall SafetyEYE system is made up

of various components that combine to

form one safety unit. It comprises a sensing

device, an analysis unit and a program-

mable safety and control system.

The sensing device consists of three ca-

meras, which observe what’s happening

and transmit greyscale images.

The analysis unit, a high performance com-

puter, receives and processes the image

data. In doing so it generates the signals –

detection zone violations for example – for

the integrated programmable safety and

control system.

This in turn forms the interface with the

actuator technology. As soon as the safety

and control system receives the signal that

the closest detection zone has been viola-

ted, it immediately shuts down the relevant

machine. Other reactions are also a pos-

sibility in the area of security. The program-

mable safety and control system is part of the

analysis unit, with an optional SafetyBUS p/

SafetyNET p interface.

So you can benefi t from decentralised, safe

networking of all components, fast reaction

times for your plant, user-friendly diagnostics

and therefore high availability.

Control, monitor and protect – you can do all

this with just one system; standard control

functions included. It’s also possible to mo-

nitor several independent detection zones

simultaneously using one SafetyEYE. That

lowers costs, reduces components to a mini-

mum and saves on installation expenses and

materials because it connects directly to bus

systems such as SafetyBUS p.

Detection zones rapidly set up via software

It couldn’t be any simpler. You set up your

detection zones using the intuitive Safety

EYE Confi gurator. You can defi ne the

detection zones, combine them into groups

or switch detection zone arrangements to

suit your needs. That way you can remain

fl exible; once detection zones have been

defi ned they can be adapted at the click of

a mouse using the SafetyEYE Confi gurator.

Ergonomic features generate productive energy

There’s nothing to stand in the way of effi -

ciency, as SafetyEYE is positioned above

the protected area. Man and machine can

now work together in perfect harmony.

That means a “green light” for you and a

clear path for your forklift or cleaning

equipment. And you gain another plus

point: Where it used to be necessary to

intricately combine multiple sensors, three-

dimensional technology now even allows

you to protect against encroachment be-

hind the protected area.

Conceived at close quarters, installed out of reach

Safety devices can be manipulated! With

SafetyEYE there’s no need, as classic safety

devices are no longer required and work

processes are unimpeded. Not that mani-

pulation is even possible, given that the

sensing device is situated out of the

operator’s reach. SafetyEYE can also help

in providing potential evidence, as it records

every detection zone violation.

Prevent manipulation

Keeping up to date economi-cally

When processes change in an active high-

tech operation, the safety and control equip-

ment has to change with it, quickly and

economically. Warning zones can be adapted

thanks to dynamic, automatic switching,

while control functions, operator grips or

machine operating ranges can also be va-

ried. The same applies for requirements in

the area of security.

Plainer text in terms of diag-nostics

When a detection zone has been violated,

the integrated diagnostic function reduces

downtimes to a minimum. Plain text mes-

sages let the operator know about the fault

and provide clear instructions for how to

rectify it – so production can be restarted

quickly.
