The PTAS Method works with external controls and procedures, to direct the behaviors of workers.

But the reality shows the need of self motivation increase, because workers functioning without supervision specially in certain shifts.

This new reality requires to prepare the workers to assume the control and the management of its own behavior in safety and quality of their work.

External motivation and self-motivation.

PREMAC Method helps the workers to obtain greater dominion and control of its own behavior at work.

We enrich PTAS when adding PREMAC because this Method, favors the growth and development of each person. (empowerment). This is an input for self-protection.

PREMAC = PREVENTION BY MEANS OF SELF CONTROL

The PTAS and PREMAC Methods

Resemblance:

Both Methods arise from the experimental study of learning human processes.

Both Methods using the scientific knowles on natural processes of human learning.

The effectiveness of both has been demonstrated in different Companies.

Both can work in simultaneous way in same company.

The decision of the use one or another one is determinate for practical reasons or by organizational structure.

PREMAC develops and uses the personal competences (internal) to regulate the own behavior.

PREMAC, is until now, (2008) the only method of self-protection at global level applied to the Safety of the Work.

The first Report on PREMAC Method was published by PERSIST in 1997. (Revista IST, ask for

it to: [email protected])

The PREMAC Methods

Page 8: Safety Culture

What is PREMAC?

It is a Method of four steps, that develops the worker’ s capacity of how to regulate its own behavior in order to take care of himself and others at work.

Improvements and contributions with PREMAC Method

The workers know as its behavior of upper risk they practice, but they don’t know how to changing it.

The PREMAC Method produces involvement of the workers and gives them techniques to learn and to practice abilities of self- control for its own safety.

The own worker produces better information since he is always in contact with himself in an ample rank of his/her own behavior of risk.

In addition, the worker can observe and manage cognitive or concealed problems, that are not accessible to an external observer.

The external pressure for safety behavior is reduced, but increases its own, personal pressure.

The external psychologist or trained peer is key to maintain the changes of behavior.

The worker applied self-reinforcement when he/she achieves success in his process of behavior change.

The PREMAC works following thisprocedures:

To give to the workers techniques to:

How increasing self-esteem. How moderating the impulsivity. How applied emotional trainig to control the

negative emotional reactions. How changing the irrational ideas about the causes

of the industrial accidents. How improving its social abilities.

Page 12: Safety Culture

Self-esteem is the evaluate component of the self- concept and also it is the distance that exist between an optimal perception of himself and the current perception.

Self esteem is the breach between how us would like to be valued, including by our self, and as we felt that other people value to us.

The self-esteem is a learned vision (positive or negative) of themselves,. For this reason it is modifiable.

PREMAC METHOD INCREASE THE FEELINGS OF THE OWN VALUE OR SELF-ESTEEM.
