ICAO Response

ICAO reacted promptly and established IVATF in May 2010

Four project areas:

ATM

AIR

SCI

IAVW

30 recommendations by IVATF/2

Page 4: SAE - An industry standardization solution - ICAO

Transition

How will the work of the IVATF continue?

Could voluntary industry standards assist with the continuation of IVATF tasks?

Could the expertise of SAE’s Technical Committees support the IVATF?

Health Monitoring

If performed at platform level (IVHM) instead of component level, monitoring sensors and techniques could provide actionable information to mitigate effects of ash contamination

Additional benefit could be derived with ability to correlate data from multiple platforms in same geographic area and timescale

AS Aerospace Standards – specific performance requirements

used for design standards, parts standards, minimum performance

standards, quality and other areas conforming to broadly accepted

engineering practices or specs for a material, product, process,

procedure or test method

AMS Aerospace Material Specifications – specific performance

requirements for material and process specifications

ARP Aerospace Recommended Practices – documentations of

practice, procedures, and technology that are intended as guides to

standard engineering practices. May be of a more general nature or

propound data that have not yet gained broad acceptance.

AIR Aerospace Information Reports – compilations of engineering

reference data, historical information, or educational material useful

to the technical community
