Save your expensive Storage Hot water system

Do you know that as you read this, your Storage Hot water system is in a constant struggle

to avoid corrosion which is the most destructive and unavoidable in the long run?

In the process of water heating, all the corrosion encouraging factors are working against

your storage Tank as acidity, temperature, and amount of dissolved oxygen in the water and

Electrical conductivity. Out of these factors we have less control over acidity which caused by

dissolved gases such as carbon dioxide, the temperature, amount of dissolved oxygen.

But the electrical conductivity factor which aggravates in the presence of dissimilar metals in

the water can be controlled. The Hot water storage tank manufacturers use porcelain/glass

enamel lining in the steel tank which may have chink in their armour. The corrosion agents

will work on these cracks and eventually you’ll have to replace the system.

To protect this from happening the manufacturers use an anode comes with the cold water

supply or a “sacrificial unit” to counter this phenomenon. In this case, the metal rod we use

will corrode saving the Storage tank. Almost every storage Tank is equipped with this and

due to lack of awareness, most of the household doesn’t know that the Anode rod is already

depleted & the “eating away” of the storage Tank has already begun.
