A note from Fr. Wayne . . .A note from Fr. Wayne . . .A note from Fr. Wayne . . .A note from Fr. Wayne . . . Last week, we as a parish family celebrated the great events of the Lord’s suffering, passion, death, and ultimately His resurrection. What a grace filled time for our parish family. At the Easter Vigil,

we witnessed six adults received into the Catholic Church. On Easter Sunday, a faint cry was heard as one of our babies received baptism. All of these moments and the events of Holy Week demonstrate just how blessed we are. I want to thank all those who were actively involved with decorating, setting up, cleaning up, serving, and singing at the Holy Week and Easter Masses and services. Many people were up front and behind the scenes ensuring that everything was beautiful and prayerful. My sincerest thanks to all who had a part in the Masses and services over the past week. We now prepare during this Easter season to journey ever closer into the love of God by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. As we anticipate Pentecost, we prepare for Confirmation and First Holy Communion. Keep those who will receive these sacraments in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you!

From the Deacon’s desk . . . From the Deacon’s desk . . . From the Deacon’s desk . . . From the Deacon’s desk . . . Living the Year of Mercy

Are you living out the Year of Mercy? At the beginning of this Year of Mercy, I presented a “recap” of both the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy with some very simple ideas of how to put our faith into action. In conversation, I was asked to reprint several of those ideas: Spiritual Works of Mercy Advising • Be encouraging and compassionate in calling

people to live out Gospels values. • Intervene in situations where you witness others

harming themselves or others. • Respond to negative or prejudice comments with

positive statements. • Put an end to gossip by walking away. • Be forgiving • Pray for those who have hurt you. • Ask forgiveness from others. • Let go of grudges. • Bear wrongs patiently. • Work at being less critical of others. • Overlook minor flaws and mistakes of others. • Give others the benefit of the doubt. • Assume that people who may have hurt you did

so because they are enduring pain of their own.

Next week three ideas of living out the Corporal Works of Mercy.

“Christ is alive." This is the great truth which fills our faith with meaning. Jesus, who died on the cross, has risen. He has triumphed over death; he has overcome sorrow, anguish and the power of darkness. “Do not be terrified" was how the angels greeted the women who came to the tomb. “Do not be terrified. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here." “This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Easter is a time of joy — a joy not con-fined to this period of the liturgical year, but to be found really and fully in the Christian's heart. For Christ is alive. He is not someone who has gone, someone who existed for a time and then passed on, leaving us a wonderful example and a great memory. No, Christ is alive. Jesus is the Emmanuel: God with us. His resurrection shows us that God does not aban-don his own. He promised he would not: “Can a woman forget her baby that is still unweaned, pity no longer the son she bore in her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you." And he has kept his promise. His delight is still to be with the sons of men. (Saint Josemaria Escriva - Christ is Passing By, #102)

“The Risen Lord . . . is our greatest joy; He is always at our side and will never let us down. This is the foun- dation of our hope, which is not mere optimism, nor a psychological attitude or desire to be courageous. Christian hope is a gift that God gives us if we come out of ourselves and open our hearts to him. This hope does not disap-point us because the Holy Spirit has been poured into our hearts (cf. Rom 5:5). The Holy Spirit does not make everything look appealing. He does not remove evil with a magic wand. But He pours into us the vitality of life, which is not the absence of prob-lems, but the certainty of being loved and always for-given by Christ, who for us has conquered sin, con-quered death and conquered fear. Today is the cele-bration of our hope, the celebration of this truth: nothing and no one will ever be able to separate us from his love (cf. Rom 8:39).” (Easter homily of Pope Francis)

Gloria a Te, O’ Signore.Gloria a Te, O’ Signore.Gloria a Te, O’ Signore. Venne Gesù, a porte chiuse, stette in mezzo e disse: «Pace a voi!». Wander on Wingate! We invite you to explore the Wingate Street Arts District, a fun and funky area of Haverhill, centrally located yet slightly tucked away.

Just minutes from the train station and one street over from downtown’s Washington Street, adventure awaits you! What ties it all together is our love of the Arts. Keep an eye out for the mural in the center of Wingate Street, a project created by the community that depicts the history of the city.Check out the exhibits in the various businesses; the Arts District supports local artists by inviting them to show and sell their work in a variety of venues. And watch for upcoming events... There is always something in the works on Wingate !
