SACRED HEART WADSWORTH, OHIO PARISH MISSION IS NEXT WEEK! Fr. Bill Casey will be with us for the mission February 3-6 at 7 PM in the church and a presentation after the 8 AM Mass each day. Fr. Casey is from The Fathers of Mercy in Auburn, Kentucky. Fr. Casey will also preach at all the Masses next weekend, February 1 & 2. The mission will center on the Most Holy Eucharist and our Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We are very blessed to have perpetual Adoration here at Sacred Heart. This, as we

all know, depends on the willingness of people to commit themselves to an hour of Adoration in order for the chapel to be open 24/7 so that everyone can come to pray when they are in need, no matter the time of day or night. Those who sign up for a specific hour each week, or share an hour with friends or family, are the ones who make it possible for others to come to adore Jesus and seek His help when they are troubled in any way. Please make time for this special mission and prayerfully consider signing up for an hour a week or getting a few friends together and sharing an hour. We need a good response if our Adoration is to grow stronger in the midst of God’s love for us and our love for one another. This week is Catholic Schools Week and it is a time for all of us to reflect on the importance of Catholic education. Our parish school is very important to our community, now and for the future. As we all know, Catholic education is a very costly item for any parish community, as it is for us. Parents who choose to send their children to a Catholic school are indeed making a great sacrifice; a sacrifice that not all parents can make. We must all continue to work together, even if our children are well beyond school age. Many of you who know the benefits that Catholic education gave to your children have continued to support our parish school in a most generous way, and for that I am very grateful, but more need to follow that lead. The cost of teachers’ salaries and benefits are huge, to say nothing of the utility bills and other expenses. However, this cost is nothing compared to the benefits of a Catholic education where children can learn about God and pray every day to Him, where teachers are free to speak openly about their faith in God, and how helpful it is to have that faith in our lives. The best thing we can give to our children is a deep faith in God that truly makes life worth living. We can give our children a quality education, but if God is not a part of it, then we are not giving them much of anything at all. Please pray for our schoolchildren, the teachers, and the parents, so that our school may always be a place where God and our Catholic Faith come first. May God bless all those who sacrifice for the sake of Catholic education and may He always bless those who work so hard to share our Catholic Faith with their children, even if they are not able to send them to a Catholic school. Please check the Sacred Heart School website for the opportunities this week to learn more about our school. I hope that many of you will be able to take advantage of these opportunities so that you can share the good news about Sacred Heart School with your friends and neighbors. We need you to be informed so that you can inform others who may be thinking about sending their children to Sacred Heart School. I am sure that most of you have received your calendar for 2020. Sorry it was a little late, but we had a shipping problem. The calendar is very beautifully done, showing pictures from various parish events throughout the year. I am very grateful to Mary Gegick and Annette Bernard for their hard work in putting the calendar together. World Marriage Day is fast approaching. Please take some time to reflect on this great gift of God in the Sacrament of Marriage. It is God’s design that a man and a woman should come together to share their love and their life, and ultimately help each other to get to heaven, along with any children that are given to them by God. Marriage is very sacred and it is meant to be life-giving in every way. Don’t forget about our annual couples’ dinner on Saturday, February 8 at 6:00 PM. There will be a blessing of married couples at the 5 PM Mass with the dinner and entertainment following downstairs in McMahon Hall. See today’s bulletin for more details and registration information.

Third Sunday in Ordinary Time When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and went down to live in Capernaum by the sea near the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, to fulfill what had been said through Isaiah the prophet: “Land of Zebulun, land of Naphtali along the sea beyond the Jordan, heathen Galilee: A people living in darkness has seen a great light. On those who inhabit a land overshadowed by death, light has risen.” From that time on Jesus began to proclaim this theme: “Reform your lives! The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” As he was walking along the Sea of Galilee he watched two brothers, Simon now known as Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea. They were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately abandoned their nets and became his followers. He walked along farther and caught sight of two other brothers, James, Zebedee’s son, and his brother John. They too were in their boat, getting their nets in order with their father, Zebedee. He called them, and immediately they abandoned boat and father to follow him. Jesus toured all of Galilee. He taught in their synagogues, proclaimed the good news of the kingdom, and cured the people of every disease and illness.

Question for Adults: To whom could you preach the gospel of Jesus Christ this week with actions rather than words? Question for Children: What could you do for someone this week that would tell them something about Jesus?

2019 ANNUAL PARISH CONTRIBUTION REPORT

In regards to those interested in receiving documentation over their 2019 charitable contributions, please note that donation documentation is only required for those who itemize their tax return. With the increase of the standard deduction to $24,400 for married couples and $12,200 for single filers, it is expected that almost 90% of filers will be taking the standard deduction rather than itemizing their 2019 tax return. Please verify with your tax preparer or accountant prior to requesting your copy of 2019 contributions.
