Jean Kollefrath EPIPHANY
The word “epiphany” means “revelation.” In this case, it refers to the finding of the Christ Child by the Magi. In the Catholic Church, Epipha-ny is considered to be a Solemnity.
The Magi were foreign astronomers/astrologers and their visit foreshad-ows that Gentiles, too, would be called to be Christians.
In some countries, Epiphany is the day for gift-giving instead of Christ-mas, because the Magi gave their gifts to Jesus: gold for kingship; frankincense for priesthood; and myrrh for burial.
Epiphany marks the end of the Christmas season. On Sunday Janu-ary 12, we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, a Feast in Ordinary Time. Then on Sunday, January 29th, we celebrate the 2nd Sunday in Ordi-nary Time.
PLEASE NOTE We have a number of days open for sched-uling your Mass intentions. If anyone would like to schedule Masses for his/her loved ones, this is an ideal time!
