This is Black History Month. We celebrate the African Americans who sought to share the Gospel and worked for the dig-nity of every person. One such person was Sr. Thea Bowman. Sr. Thea was the granddaughter of slaves and became Catholic at the age of nine. She joined the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration while still a teenager. Sr. Thea was a pioneer in the realm of race relations in areas where race tensions remained high. She taught elementary, high school and college students. While suffering from cancer, she toured the U.S. sharing her rich cultural heritage with many who were grateful for her message of hope. In 1989, Sister Thea addressed the Conference of American Catholic Bishops leading them in signing “We Shall Overcome”. She passed into arms of the angels the following year. In 2018 the American Catholic Bishops voted the advance her cause for sainthood to Rome. Sr. Thea Bowman is already a Saint in the eyes of many people who pray for the Good News of Jesus Christ to break down the walls of racial hatred and distrust. Sr. Thea, pray for us. Faithfully Fr. The Knights of Columbus, Father Heslin Council #2557 of Turlock is awarding scholar-ships to the senior students who attend our local high schools. Scholarships will be awarded to the sons, daughters and grandchildren of active Father Heslin Council #2557
Knights of Columbus members only. Their father/grandfather must be an active member in good standing and if de-ceased was in good standing with Father Heslin Council #2557 of Turlock. This list excludes extended relatives. The Council Scholarship committee reserves the option to recommend students who are deserving of financial assistance and have demonstrated outstanding community service.

The Women’s Scripture Study will begin again on Thurs., Feb. 27th at 1:00-2:30 pm in St. Cecelia’s room of the Parish office. We will have a DVD by Bishop Robert Barron on “The Mass” with group discussions after. The Study Guide is great and may be ordered by calling Peggy at 620-0672. It is $25.00.
