The RCIA Team is seeking individuals interested in joining the Catholic faith. Come

on a journey with us to Catholicism. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the

process for welcoming new members. Christian Initiation is a community journey

that leads one to an opening of mind and spirit. Our next RCIA meeting is set for

Wednesday, October 30 at 6pm.

If you know someone who may want to start the process this fall, please give their

name to Claire Lampert at 304-921-2455 or Barbara Musolin at 276-326-1555.

Dear Parishioners ~ we will be honoring those who have passed away in the last year on the

Feast of All Saints. The Holy Day of Obligation Masses will be at 12 Noon and 6pm on Friday,

November 1. At the 6pm Mass we will call out the names of those we have on file. If any family

member is available to attend the 6pm Mass and light a candle in memory of your loved one,

please arrive for the Mass by 5:45pm. This will take place prior to the Mass starting. Below,

please find the names we will be remembering this year. Also, we will have our Book of the Dead

available on that Friday. You can enter any deceased loved one into the book for prayers

throughout the month of November. Let us join together in prayer for the deceased loved ones of

Sacred Heart Church, especially those listed. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let

perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed

through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

The 6th Annual October Rosary Rally Schedule

Mass Intentions for 2019 & 2020 The tradition of offering Masses for others, particularly the dead, originates in the very early Church.

Inscriptions discovered on tombs in Roman catacombs of the second century evidence this practice.

The epitaph on the tomb of Abercius (d. 180), Bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia, begs for prayers for the repose

of his soul. In the Words of Our Saints:

St. Augustine (d. 430) recorded the dying wishes of his mother, St. Monica in his Confessions: “One thing

only I ask you, that you remember me at the altar of the Lord wherever you may be.”

Pope St. Gregory (d. 604) said, “Let us not hesitate to help those who have died and to offer our prayers for

them.”

Some things to keep in mind when scheduling a Mass for a loved one at Sacred Heart: ~ Mass Intention requests will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis in the order in which the Mass

Intention Request is received in the Parish Office.

~ $20 for weekend Masses and $10 for week day Masses is the stipend for each Mass requested and should

accompany the Mass request. However, no one will be denied a Mass Intention because of inability to pay.

~ Beginning in January of 2020, we will no longer have a First Friday Memorial Mass list. However, First

Friday’s are available to schedule a Mass Intention for a loved one.

~ Individual Mass Intentions will not be scheduled on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Easter Vigil and Easter Masses, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day Masses as they will be an intention for all the Living and Deceased Members of the Parish.

The following dates are still available for the rest of 2019: October: Tues 22, Sat 26, Tue 29, Wed 30. November: Sun 3, Tue 5, Sun 10, Tue 12, Sat 16, Sun 17, Tue 19, Tue 26, Wed 27, Sat 30. December: Sun 1, Wed 4, Tue 10, Sat 14, Sun 15, Tue 17, Wed 18, Sat 21, Sun 29, Tue 31.

~Mass Intention Requests can now be made for the year 2020 by calling the church office or by filling out a Mass

Intention Envelope and dropping it in the mail or the collection basket. The envelopes can be found in the back of the

church.

Dear Father Devasya:

I want to thank you for your generous hospitality during my recent visits

to Sacred Heart parishes in Bluefield and Princeton. The Masses were

beautiful and the meals I shared with you and the parishioners were

delicious. I enjoyed spending time getting to know you and people of your

parishes.

Please extend my thanks to your parishioners for the wonderful gift they

gave to me. I am enjoying the mountain picture, the prayer shawl, baseball hat, prayer bowl and the

West Virginia plaque. I am humbled by their kindness to me. Everyone was very welcoming and for

that I am grateful. I look forward to future visits to Bluefield and Princeton.

I ask for your prayers as I try my best to serve the people of this Diocese and State.

God bless you and your people!

Sincerely in Christ,

Mark

WITH SYMPATHY The Sacred Heart Parish Family wishes to extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to Amy and Scott Keim and family on the death of her father, William Fitz. May all who mourn be comforted by the Lord’s love and may William rest in the eternal peace of Jesus.

THANK YOU

“My extended family are forever grateful for all the prayers and the prayer shawl from our Threads of Love crafters that was sent to my father in Pittsburgh. He was cloaked in the beautiful shawl when he passed away. I know the prayer shawl will continue to be a source of comfort for my mother as well. God bless all of you who participate in this important ministry. Thank you, Annette Morgan for all your assistance in getting the shawl to my dad and the beautiful note. Amy and Scott Keim and family”
