Our Vision The acknowledged association in the coal mining industry As part of stakeholder engagement, we visited the CEO of MHSC Mr Due together with his executives, where we shared the SACMA strategic focus areas for 2016, and also allowed him to share with SACMA his expectations, the challenges they have, and assistance required from us as an association. Some of the challenges they have to deal with, particularly from the coal sector are: lack of participation from coal members on different committees within the council and few Research and Development initiatives coming from the coal sector. We have also agreed that we will continue with our engagement going forward to make sure that there is alignment between the two parties. We also visited the University of Johannesburg under the leadership of Mr H Grobler, the Head of Mining, for the similar reason to share our strategic focus areas with them as they are our key stakeholder - the presentation was well received by the team. They were encouraged to learn that SACMA has identified them as key stakeholders. In closing, I would like to thank all the members that took their valuable time to participate in our survey; we had a 26% response rate. I would also like to assure those members that their feedback will be taken seriously. As the Council, we commit to work on the feedback and will keep members updated on the progress. Once again, we appreciate your input; it will assist us in making sure that you get the value for your time. Kriel Colliery’s journey to Zero Harm by Mr Ian Hogg (Chief Safety Officer- Kriel Colliery).
