We all know that there is insufficient parking space at SouthMeck. However, those students who drive to school without permits create an overcrowded situation that is unsafe andchaotic. In an attempt to deter unauthorized parking, the campus is clearly marked as a TOWZONE for anyone parking without a permit. We would like to avoid towing; however,we reserve the right to do so as a final resort.Effective Monday, 21 April, WHEN WE RETURN FROM SPRING BREAK, VEHICLES WHICH AREPARKED ILLEGALLY ON CAMPUS WILL BE SUBJECT TO "BOOTING" with a chain placed one ofthe vehicle's tires. A warning notice will be placed on the car advising that thecar is booted and that driving with the chain on will result in damage to the car.The driver will have to report to CAPT Shewchuk to have the chain removed.Student identification must be presented and a significant delay should be antici-pated. Students parking illegally are also subject to receiving a citation with anaccompanying $20 fine per incident. Again, this system is meant as a deterrent sothat we can maintain a safe and orderly campus. At this time, there are over 100 students who owe a total of over $5500 in fines. As with other financial obligations, failure to pay the fines results in loss ofthe privilege of walking at graduation. Additionally, THOSE STUDENTS WHO OWE PARK-ING FINES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PURCHASE PROM TICKETS OR ATTEND PROM. A list ofstudents with parking debts, by student ID, will be posted in the mall near thenurse's office on Monday 7 April.
