Sable Ridge Village Residents’ Association Meeting January 8, 2019 The meeting was called to order at 3:30 pm at Ashley Hall by President Jana Krause. The minutes were approved of the October 2018 meeting, as listed on the SRVA website. Committee Reports: Sunshine: Janis Weinstock noted that no cards have been sent out recently and reminded residents that if they were aware of anyone needing “cheer” to let her know to send out a card. Friends Helping Friends: Pauline Howell spoke that they are in need of volunteers to drive Plantation residents to shopping or other appointments. If you would like to volunteer, give Pauline a call. Decorations: A discussion was held to see if the $350 budgeted would be enough to update the entry sign Christmas decorations because the Nativity scene being used currently, belongs to a family who will be moving. Janis Weinstock said it would be enough. She has purchased a new Hanukkah flag to replace the lights and some collapsible trees, which will be easy to store. All decoration of the holidays is covered right now by volunteers. Ted Bland remarked that without the Nativity, we would be removing an integral part of the meaning of Christmas. Sandy and Jeff Fritz offered a Nativity Scene that they had, and Jeff along with Ted, volunteered to take over coverage of Christmas. It was also remarked that the Turkey from Thanksgiving was on its lasts legs, but could still be used next year, and in addition, Halloween might need some sprucing up. Janis will be holding a Heart Painting party at her house for new residents to create their heart to the grouping that graces our entryway on Valentine’s Day. Social Report: The Souper Supper will be held January 31 at the Manor. RSVP by 1/14/19. The April Block Party will be held at the Pavilion date to follow. There was a call for a volunteer to head a Social Committee. This person would arrange and answer questions about events and plan other possible social get togethers for the neighborhood. At this time there were no volunteers. Old Business: Fall Party Report: The fall party was headed up by Hope McClish (who now has moved out of our neighborhood). With the Chinese auction and the 50/50 raffle, the party raised $245 dollars. This money was donated to our adopted charity, the Leesburg Food Bank. Jana remarked that we did receive a thank you letter from the Food Bank for our donation. Christmas Card Report: Our Elves delivered 1202 cards of the season to our residents this year. Souper Supper: To be held January 31 at Manor Pavilion. Block Party: To be held in April date will be determined.
