About Sabbath At Sabbath we BELIEVE our role is to constantly innovate and challenge, we don’t think out of the box. There is no box. There’s a whiteboard for ideas that we all contribute to. EXTRAORDINARY experience and teamwork makes for great bikes and wonderful coffee. Sabbath was established in late 2006. It was formed and is run by bike riders and enthusiasts. The Sabbath team is small, but between us we boast over 100 years experience in the cycling industry. Greg has 10 year’s elite rider experience racing all over the world. Iain is a doctor of engineering design who rode 1st category amateur for most of his twenties. There’s a workshop manager with a pedants attention to detail borne of years fixing peoples bikes in a local bike shop and who once finished 4th in the British junior mountain bike series. Alex managed the Giant professional mountain bike team. James rides home in the snow all winter just because he likes doing it. He’s also highly proficient in the use of the telephone and the packaging gun. Beth insists we all tidy up after ourselves and wash our bikes at least once a week. We all make a mean cup of coffee. But background is only part of it. At Sabbath we're keen innovators. That means we're constantly looking at new ways to do things. That's why we have a big whiteboard in the meeting room. It's been host to a thousand and one ideas scribbled down for product and service development. It was here that we decided what the 2011 range should include, here that the distinctive “New Wave” tubesets, was first sketched out. It's on that whiteboard that the on going develop our own in-house custom programme has taken shape. On the whiteboard we've made decisions about what components to specify, which to try and which to avoid. Nobody is allowed to clean the whiteboard. Sabbath is a young bike company with a team of experienced enthusiasts looking to deliver the best possible products. It’s a company with well-used staff bikes and a very cluttered whiteboard.




Top 5 sales questions What are the Benefits of Sabbath Titanium frames? Corrosion resistant - Salty road, rain & dirt won’t ever damage the frame. Impact resistant – Titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio of any metal and so it can deal with the inevitable crashes we all have from time to time better than other frame materials. Excellent ductility – Resulting in the much heralded titanium ride quality. High fatigue strength - Titanium is unaffected by the repeated load cycles that our frames are put through in normal use. Sabbath titanium frames do not have a rider weight limit. Longevity – With titanium’s material properties, intelligent design & exceptional build quality a Sabbath frame can last a lifetime.

What is the guarantee of the frames? Sabbath provides a lifetime warranty on frames. Our current return rate is less than .05%. Warranty is valid for the original purchaser only & claims must be supported by proof of purchase.

Where are the Sabbath frames manufactured? They are made in specialist facilities in China. All Sabbath frames are designed in the UK to custom tube specifications. UK Quality control – All frames are thoroughly checked in the UK & receive a Frame Passport before dispatch. This process ensures that all relevant surfaces are faced/reamed & threads are chased. Frames are also checked for alignment and weight tolerances.

Why the funny shaped tubes? The tubes are manipulated so they can connect at sharper angles, which gives larger and therefore stronger contact surface area for the welds. Welding a larger joint puts more heat into the frame which can damage the material, so we developed a new Cold Work Stress Relief (CWSR) process in the manufacture of Sabbath frames to retain titanium’s inherent properties of ductility, comfort and durability. Also, manipulating the tubes in this way allows use to accurately control the tube wall thicknesses & fine tune the ride characteristics of each frame. The whole process enables us to build frames with substantially stiffer and stronger joints which allows us to build frames with a more responsive ride.

Why do you use 3Al 2.5V for main tubes and not 6Al 4V?

3Al 2.5V titanium is more ductile and so gives a higher ride quality. 3Al 2.5V titanium’s ductility means it can be drawn into seamless tubes. This cannot be achieved with 6Al 4V. We do utilise 6Al 4V titanium in certain parts where its individual properties are beneficial. 6Al 4V is used for machined parts, such dropouts, integrated headtubes and bottom bracket shells on some frames to offer enhanced lateral stiffness.




“New Wave” Tube Technology

The intrinsic technical design features and benefits of Sabbath’s “New Wave” tube technology, utilised in the 2011 Alp, Demon & Nirvana are:-

1. UNIQUE MATERIAL MANIPULATION 2. LOCALISED STIFFNESS 3. LARGER WELD SURFACE AREA 1. UNIQUE MATERIAL MANIPULATION

The 3al 2.5v titanium tubing is manipulated and heat treated allowing us to tightly control the levels stiffness/comfort in any part of the frame tubing through a molecular change even before we come to shape the tubes. This tubing is then manipulated further & incorporated appropriately depending on the intended use of the frame, to provide the optimised stiffness and comfort characteristics.

2. LOCALISED STIFFNESS

A number of the frame tubes have curved tube ends this is to further manipulate the material’s physical properties by cold working. This process enables us to:

• Locally increase the stiffness of the material by bending it (this has a similar effect to butting a tube – making it more dense or so stiffer at the ends than in the middle).

• Combine this process with the two “feed” materials we have, giving the capability to fine tune the materials characteristics. We apply this process to both double butted and straight gauge material depending on model.

3. LARGER WELD SURFACE AREA

The tubes manipulated so that they join at steeper angles, which gives a much larger contact surface area for the welds. This results in stiffer and stronger joints and allows us to build frames with a more responsive ride. Welding a larger joint means that more heat is transferred to the main tubes. If this is not addressed properly it can leave the material brittle. To ensure that these internal stresses caused by the welding process are removed we developed a new vacuum oven heat treatment process to return the tubes to their original ductile state. The frames are then inspected with ultrasonics as part of our Quality Assessment.

The net result of all the above is that through developing stronger, stiffer joints we are able to use thinner walled tube sections, reducing the weight of the frame, whilst also further controlling each frame design’s unique handling & ride characteristics.

Frame Customisation Metal Finishes – We offer a choice three metal finishes. If ordering a non-standard finish please expect a lead time of approximately ten days:

Matt Satin: The frame has been sand blasted giving it a deep understated and slightly textured look.

Bright Brush: This is the most durable finish & has the classic look associated with titanium. Brushing the frame is a labour intensive process and so carries a retail up-charge of £149.00.

Full Polish: The frame is polished to such a standard you’ll be able to see your face in it! Achieving this finish is time consuming and is reflected in the £199.00 retail up-charge.

Vinyl Graphics: Our vinyl graphics are available to order in a variety of colours to suit the personality of each Sabbath customer. Red graphics/White logos is our standard option, all other colours are special orders and as such carry a £29.99 retail upcharge.

Graphic Colour Options: Red/White (standard) Lime Green/White Burnt Orange/White White/White Silver/White Charcoal/White Laser Annealing: The frame is indelibly marked with the Sabbath graphics. Lasers are used to locally heat the surface of the metal to form a very thin oxide layer. The finish is immensely hard wearing and will look as good in years to come as when it’s new. We feel that Laser Annealing gives a clearer, more defined finish on titanium to that of Laser Etching.




NIRVANA Frame Specification

The tailor made Sabbath thoroughbred. Free thinking and full customisation means the rider gets the very best bike made just for them.

Frame Details:

Frame overview: The Sabbath Nirvana employs frame size specific 3Al 2.5V ultra thin wall fully double butted, cold worked seamless titanium to create the best combination of stiffness and weight possible in titanium.

One piece top tube: ‘New Wave’ tube manipulation massively increases the effective weld site at the head tube. Extreme ovalisation of the tube create immense lateral stiffness for out of the saddle efforts. Pierced seat tube junction and wishbone stays further increase frame stiffness. Head tube: CNC Machined from a billet of 6Al 4V titanium to create a stiffer headtube, with integrated headset to improve handling. The tube is internally lightened. ‘New Wave’ downtube: Enlarged weld surface area at head tube and bottom bracket joints to increase lateral stiffness. ‘New Wave’ tube manipulation also tunes the ride characteristics. Seat tube: The double butted seat tube is ovalised below the front mech clamp to combat out of plane loads and increase the weld site at the bottom bracket improving power transfer. BB30: CNC machined from a billet of 6Al 4V titanium to create a massively stiffer bottom bracket. Seat stays: ‘New Wave’ tube manipulation is used to maximize pedaling response. The tubes feature horizontally and vertically ovalised sections to handle out of plane loads and create stiffer, stronger wed sites. Chain stays: Asymmetrically butted tubes are employed to deliver strength just where necessary to deliver power, yet retain the overall ride quality and keep the wheels fixed to the road even under the hardest sprints. DEMON Frame Specification

Racers and aggressive riders seeking pin sharp handling without losing titanium’s classic ride feel.

Frame Details Overview: 3Al 2.5V double butted custom drawn seamless titanium tubeset built into a light and responsive frame. The aggressive race inspired geometry gives a low, fast riding position without compromising titanium’s legendary ride comfort. Triangulated top tube: The double butted rounded triangular top tube is designed to withstand torsional loads and add to the frame stiffness

. Head tube: CNC Machined from a billet of 6Al 4V titanium to create a stiffer headtube, with integrated headset to improve handling. ‘New Wave’ downtube: Enlarged weld surface area at head tube and bottom bracket joints to increase lateral stiffness. ‘New Wave’ tube manipulation also tunes the ride characteristics. Seat tube: The double butted seat tube is ovalised below the front mech clamp to combat out of plane loads and increase the weld site at the bottom bracket improving power transfer.

Ovalised seat stays: The convex curve of the seat stays increases road feedback, whilst also acting as a leaf spring to offer a compliant ride. The butted tubes are ovalised horizontally to greatly increase lateral stiffness and maintain massive power transfer. The ovalisation is reduced at the seat tube junction to increase braking stiffness.

Asymmetrically butted chainstays: Internal asymmetric butted tubes offer great lateral stiffness and work with the seat stays to maintain rider comfort. The butting ensures that the rear end stays rooted to the road even under the hardest sprint efforts rather than skipping all over the road.

this is the bike for you.

Frame Details: Overview: Custom formed thin wall double butted 3Al 2.5V seamless tube are used to create Sabbath’s lightest production frame.

Triangulated top tube: The rounded triangular double butted top tube increases the frame stiffness and handling precision by resisting out of plane torsional loads better than a classic round tube. Head tube: The 3Al 2.5V head tube is externally machined to reduce weight. Biaxial down tube: The oversized tube is cold worked to maximize weld sites with larger, stiffer joints. The tube is ovalised vertically at the head tube to contribute to razor sharp handling. The orientation is changed to horizontal ovalisation at the bottom bracket to increase local stiffness and power transfer. Seat stays: The custom formed thin walled seat stays are manipulated with ‘New Wave’ technology to create high levels of lateral stiffness and an extremely complaint ride.

Frame Details Overview: Sport fit geometry designed for day long comfort and confident inspiring control. Tubeset: 3Al 2.5V straight gauge tubeset. Downtube: Uniformly ovalised downtube increases stiffness at the head tube and bottom bracket. Seatstays: The concave curve of the seatstays act as a leaf spring, enchance the classic titanium ride feel.

Sport Fit Geometry: Features comparatively shorter top tubes and taller head tubes to deliver day long comfort. The angles and wheelbase deliver a responsive, engaging ride whilst remaining sure footed and stable.

SEPTEMBER Frame Specification

Utility and audax riders looking for year round riding. The convenience and flexibility of a truly utilitarian bike.

Frame Specification Overview: A frame that can do almost everything. Balanced geometry for outstanding comfort and stability. Tubeset: 3Al 2.5V straight gauge tubeset. Downtube: Uniformly ovalised downtube increases stiffness at the head tube and bottom bracket.

Weatherproof: Titanium is practically corrosion proof and as the September features full mudguard fittings it is an ideal bike for year round use. Practical: The September is also fitted with M5 pannier mounts, which can carry an impressive 25kg of load. This makes the bike an excellent all rounder: it can handle itself in a chaingang, or on a sportive, but is just at home as a workhorse on the winter commute or out on a 200km audax.

Targeted Geometry: The September has a similar geometry to the Silk Road, yet has a longer seat stays to create ample clearance for mudguards. The September also has a slightly slacker head angle than the Silk Road to ensure the bike maintains stability even when carrying a load.

Frame Specification

Overview: 3Al 2.5V titanium straight gauge seamless tubing, manipulated to offer comfort, strength and control over any terrain. Top Tube: The tube is slightly ovalised to add strength to the frame. Down Tube: Oversized and ovalised contribute to the stiffness of head tube and bottom bracket areas. 135mm Rear Spacing: The frame is designed to take a wider 135mm rear hub, enabling the use of stronger wheels with more evenly tensioned spokes. Touring Specific Features: Three sets of welded bottle cage bosses. Pump peg. Full mudguard drillings. Cantilever brakes. Clearance for 38c tyres.

Reinforced M6 pannier mountings, allowing loads of up to 35kg to be carried on the back of the bike alone.

Sabbath sizing guide

All of our road bike frames are available in 5 stock sizes, from extra small through to extra large. In our brochure, we attribute an estimated rider height against each size. Someone who is a size large Silk Road would typically also be a size large in any of the other models. However, because we have a different end user in mind, who want different ride characteristics and position on the bike, you’ll see that key dimensions on a large Silk Road differ to key dimensions on, say, a Silk Route in the same size. Why?... Take 2 people who are 6ft tall. One races, the other does sportives. The one who races will want a more aggressive ride position AND greater stiffness when sprinting out of bends. The one who does sportives spends longer in the saddle, wants to be slightly more comfortable and doesn’t need to sprint out of every corner. So, unlike many mass manufacturers who make the same bike with two different geometries but otherwise the same, we make sportive specific models and a race specific model and address every aspect of the design to reflect their particular end user needs. Why is your smallest bike relatively big? Actually it isn’t. We’d expect an Extra Small frame to fit someone down to 5’2” roughly. We don’t make a stock model smaller than that because typically, people who need a smaller frame than that will have other issues with bike fit – for example short wheelbase meaning they suffer badly with toe overlap. To ensure that very specific needs are dealt with properly we offer custom fit at £199 above standard RRP. This allows us to offer riders who have such unique bike fit requirements a frame suitable for their particular needs. How does custom fit work?

- Sabbath custom fit is a £199 up charge to the consumer. As a dealer you make a standard margin

on this to reflect the extra time it’ll take you to make the sale.

- Fill out the Sabbath bike fit form attached here and also available from Sabbath’s website.

- Sabbath will create a technical frame drawing and email it to you for your customer to approve and

sign-off. Amendments to the design can only be made before it is signed off by the customer, so

please feel free to ask questions or have your customer call us to discuss the design.

- Once the customer has confirmed they are happy with the frame design, get them sign the drawing

off and pay for the frame. As our custom frames are built with just one rider’s needs in mind, we

insist on pro-forma payment on custom frames. We will issue you with a pro-forma invoice for the

frame once your customer has approved the drawing. Once this is paid the frame will be

manufactured.

- Sabbath aim to deliver custom frames within 8 weeks of the technical drawing being signed off by

the customer.
