Adoption of SAP HANA 2 in SAP S/4HANAAlways see PAM for HANA DB versions supported in a given SAP S/4HANA release
Starting with RTC of SAP S/4HANA 1610 FPS01
Use SAP HANA 2 as database
Application-support for select features:
– See SAP Note 2426477
– Active/active (first delivery, restricted scope)
– SAP S/4HANA scale-out
Plans to adopt further innovations, e.g.
– Optimizations for extreme data volumes
– Evaluating multistore partitioning for data aging

Utilizing HSR CPU resources for read-only workload
Value proposition for customers utilizing HANA system replication
– Open secondary hardware for productive workload
– Data preloaded in main memory of secondary (short delay)
– Redirect purely reading workload to secondary▫ See documentation in SAP HANA Administration Guide
Perfect fit for SAP S/4HANA and HTAP* workload
– With increasing analytical workload, CPU requirements grow
– Many SAP S/4HANA customers use HSR with hot standby
Move part of analytical workload to secondary
First support in SAP S/4HANA 1610 FPS 1
SAP HANA Active/ActiveOff-load purely reading workload to HANA System Replication (HSR) secondary
Synchronous or asynchronous replication
modes supported.
Note: Regardless of replication mode, data is
available for read on secondary with short delay

Adoption of Active/Active in S/4HANAStarting with SAP S/4HANA 1610 FPS 1 and SAP HANA 2.0 revision 1
Performance optimization for Analytical apps
– As of SAP HANA 2, there is an option in SAP HANA System Replication to free up CPU resources by using a secondary SAP HANA node. SAP HANA allows an app to read data not only from the primary SAP HANA node, but also from a secondary SAP HANA node
– For analytical apps that only require read access, reading from the secondary SAP HANA node is a good alternative▫ Works automatically, as long as active/active enabled in HANA
▫ Ignored by HANA if active/active not enabled
– Select Fiori applications being enabled for active/active – see list in SAP Note 2405182 (entries may be subject to change)
– Optionally enable own smart business apps see SAP product help Cross Components Analytics Smart Business Modeler Apps Create tile

No immediate impact on the integration of SAP S/4HANA
and SAP BW/4HANA
SAP BW/4HANA is not a prerequisite solution for SAP S/4HANA
SAP S/4HANA integrates in the same way with SAP BW/4HANA as it already does with SAP BW powered by SAP HANA
to…
– … complement each other
– … cover all analytic use cases on one data source
– … provide a comprehensive reporting platform
New innovations taking place in SAP BW/4HANA …
– … are compatible with existing setups (customers can migrate to where necessary)
– … focus on Big Data and enhanced data management (Multi-temperature handling, HEC, AWS or Azure, etc.)
– … primarily strengthen the EDW character of SAP BW/4HANA
With SAP BW/4HANA being SAP’s strategic platform for EDW, it’s new functionality
will enhance the integration with SAP S/4HANA in a long term
(e.g. CDS extraction, aligned content objects and models)

SAP Best Practices for analytics in SAP S/4HANA
The SAP Best Practices for SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics are tailored to accelerate and simplify the adoption of analytics with
SAP S/4HANA edition by delivering enriched operational reporting in the context of the respective business processes
What value does it provide?
• Embedded Analytics with SAP S/4HANA for setting up CDS views and various
analytical apps based on CDS views to have a jump start the implementation and
activation of embedded analytics with SAP S/4HANA
• Pre-configured operational reporting for core business processes with role specific,
responsive and simple UX
• Two layered analytical content included to simplify the consumption of operational
reporting:
• SAP Fiori Analytical Apps embedded in the standard SAP Best Practices for
SAP S/4HANA business processes
• SAP BI Design Studio Dashboards provided in the areas such as Accounts
Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cost Center and Revenue Planning
• SAP Best Practices offers extensibility to the preconfigured Dashboard templates
• Manual for Integration between SAP S/4HANA and SAP BW
• Pre-defined apps showing the integration between SAP S/4HANA and
SAP HANA Cloud Platform

Integrated Business Planning for Finance) *
For troubleshooting please review:

Operating System (OS) requirements see SAP Note 2235581. Minimum required OS versions:
• SLES 12 SP1 (Intel and Power)
• RHEL 7.2 (Intel only)
Hardware requirements
• Intel based restrictions SAP Note 2399995
• IBM: only Power 8 supported SAP Note 2055470, Power 7 uses Big Endian so Big Little Endian migration
activity needs to be performed to update to Power 8 (see SAP Note 2380257)
Summary of the procedure to upgrade from SAP HANA 1 to SAP HANA 2 in SAP Note 2469025
Operations
• Multitenant database containers are mandatory with HANA 2.0 SPS 01, if the database is a single container
a migration process is performed. See SAP Note 2423367 for details
Considerations for SAP HANA 2
Recommendation: customers planning new deployments of SAP
S/4HANA on the IBM Power Platform may want to choose SAP HANA 2
from the beginning, to avoid data migration activities.
