Pie Charts 25.3.2014
Pie charts are extremely useful for visualising data. They must always be
clearly labelled.
Example: Create a pie chart to display the transport method that S3 students
take to school

Mental Maths 20 Questions
Today we are going to learn how to draw scattergraphs.
Scattergraphs 27.3.2014
A scattergraph is a graph that compares two sets of data that affect
each other (correlate).
The data is positively correlated if one increases as the other increases.
e.g. sales of ice-creams and temperature.
The data is negatively correlated if as one increases the other
decreases. e.g. heating usage and temerature outside.
The line of best fit on a scatter graph roughly goes through the
middle of all the points on the graph.
Scattergraphs
Example: Below are the results of a Maths test and a Science test for a
group of students.
(a) Draw a scatter graph for the following data sets
(b) Draw the line of best fit
(c) Using the line of best fit, calculate how much a student should get
in Science if they get 54% in Maths

Today we will be learning to interpret
various graphs and charts.
a) From 7am until 9am the classroom was at a
constant temperature. After 9am the classroom
became warmer, can you provide a reason
for this?
b) When does the temperature of the
classroom decrease? Can you provide a
reason for this?
S4 Numeracy Revision.notebook June 13, 2014
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a
number calculated from
your weight and height.
It roughly gives the
percentage of your total
weight that comes from fat.
The graph shows the BMI
for different heights and
weight.
William weighs 100 kg and he is 1·75 m tall. What is William’s weight
category?
1. How far is it between
Exeter and Plymouth?
2. Which two towns are 194
miles away from each other?

Today we will be learning about Hire Purchase.
Hire Purchase 24.4.2014
Purchasing an item on Hire Purchase is a type of borrowing. It means that
you hiring the item until you have it fully paid for.
Normally buying an item through HP is more expensive.
You pay a deposit and then monthly repayments until you have paid fully for
the item, you may then choose to purchase it or return it to the owner.
Hire Purchase 24.4.2014
Example:
Jessica sees a laptop she would like to buy. The cash price is £890 or she can
buy it on HP for a deposit of £250 and 18 monthly instalments of £42.
