Terry Foundation Transfer Scholarship Program

The Terry Foundation Transfer Scholarship Program provides scholarships for up to three (3) years to outstanding transfer students who show promise for being future leaders of Texas. Established in 1986 by Houston philanthropists Nancy & Howard Terry, the Foundation has assisted hundreds of Terry Scholars in meeting the founder’s goal of helping young people to help themselves.

To be considered for the Terry Scholars Program at TWU, students are selected based on three criteria: (1) leadership potential and character; (2) scholastic record and ability; (3) demonstrate financial need.

Texas Woman’s University is now accepting Terry Foundation Transfer Scholarship applications for the 2018- 2019 academic year. From the applications received, a select number of students will be interviewed by TWU faculty/staff. Fifteen candidates will be nominated and their applications will be forwarded to the Foundation for review and final interview by Foundation representatives. Please note that TWU serves as a nominating body only; all final decisions regarding Terry Foundation Scholarships are made by the Terry Foundation.

Terry Transfer Scholarship awards are determined by the Terry Foundation. The Terry Transfer Scholarship for the 2017-2018 academic period was $13,500. Scholarships are renewable for up to three years. The Terry Scholarship is awarded only to students who will physically attend the university. Students taking o n ly online courses are not eligible. In any given semester, a majority of a Scholar’s courses must be taken through physical attendance at the Denton or Dallas campus.

In addition to the academic continuing scholarship requirements, the successful TWU Terry Scholar will need to be prepared to be actively involved in campus activities. A special TWU Terry Scholar Student Organization will offer recipients the opportunity to develop a community service agenda and mentor incoming scholars. Scholars will also have the opportunity to participate in various academic, social, and cultural events offered by the Office of Student Life and the TWU Terry Scholars Program.

It has been our experience that every transfer/non-traditional student has a story to tell about their background and the road they have taken to get to this point. Some did not complete high school, but received their GED. Some went directly from high school to community colleges. Others went from high school to the military or work force. Still others describe a particular event or moment when they discovered what they wanted to achieve and what was needed to accomplish their goals. Please tell us the story of your journey to arrive at the decision to study at your chosen university.
