Preschool Snacks Mealtime is an essential part of learning for a preschooler. They learn social skills, facts about food, math skills, how to prepare and eat new foods and how to handle utensils. We will incorporate a morning snack into our daily routine. To comply with health regulations & promote healthy snacking, snacks should consist of at least 2 different food groups daily. (Fruit & vegetable is considered 1 group.) On the back, I have listed the food groups & foods from each group. While this is not a complete list, these foods are ones that would be best used in our setting. Please work with your child to come up with a healthy snack of 2 different food groups! Children enjoy making their own food their own way. Don’t be afraid to include items that may need put together. Ex. Some children like peanut butter and jelly on their tortilla or bread, some just like peanut butter. If you have a new recipe or idea that you would like to share with us, please contact me. Also, don’t forget that there are many forms of many foods. Ex. Peppers come in red, orange, yellow & green. Trying new types of the same food helps the children learn more about the food. 1. Please remember that we have to prepare the fruits & vegetables here at school. We appreciate your help in wanting to prepare them at home but this is not allowed. 2. DO NOT SEND baby carrots or grapes. They are a choking hazard. 3. Birthdays—Children can bring a pre-packaged treat of their choice for birthdays. Due to grant regulations, children are not allowed to bring treats that are home made. I apologize for this. 4. Food Allergies/intolerances—We have the following food allergies in our room: Sesame Seeds Fish
