BEARING THE RIGHT KIND OF FRUIT

Today’s readings focus our attention on vineyards. Isaiah’s song concerning his friend’s vineyard begins with inspiring and poetic images of an idyllic vineyard where the choicest harvest is expected. Instead, the vineyard yields wild grapes, which causes the owner to abandon it. The psalmist cries out to God, asking that God once again take care of the vineyard, which is the house of Israel. The parable told in today’s Gospel offers a stern warning that those who commit treachery in the hopes of attaining personal wealth will be “put . . . to a wretched death” (Matthew 21:41). Jesus warns his listeners not to act like the murderous tenants in the vineyard. Instead he exhorts them to produce the kind of fruit that will lead them to the kingdom of God. Copyright © J. S. O M T C A ! Complete Joy – As we read in his letter to the Philippians today, Saint Paul shares that his joy is complete when they are “united in heart.” It is a discouragement against envy and competition and an encouragement for humility and service. To be united in heart and one as the Body of Christ is always our mission as the Church. This task becomes even more essential as we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! There is no doubt the Church will be made stronger as we unite our human, pastoral, spiritual and financial resources and form vibrant parishes throughout the diocese. The challenge is to place our focus not on ourselves, but on our neighbors and our new communities that they may be alive in faith and in the love of God. Visit onmission-churchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed.

B P First time parents should contact the parish office well in advance of an expected Baptism, before birth when possible, to prepare for and to schedule both the Baptism and to register for Baptism Instruction. Baptisms during Mass are held the 1st Sunday of the month and Baptisms after Mass at 1:30 pm are typically held the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of the month. The next Baptism Preparation Instruction will take place on Tuesday, October 10th at 6:30 pm at the Parish Rectory. Please call 724.745.6560 , ext. 100 and ask for Rita to register.

W S . P P Welcome to St. Patrick Parish. Please complete a Parish Registration Form, which can be found at the exits of the church or the parish website, www.stpatrickparish.net. Completed registration forms may be submitted via the mail, email: [email protected], or dropped in the collection basket.

There is a special collection for the St. Vincent DePaul Society this weekend, October 7 & 8. Because of your generosity we have been able to help over 460 families this past year. We are an organization dedicated to the poor and underprivileged in our area. The most important role we play is to keep families as viable contributors to our society which helps prevent home-lessness. As a reminder, all funds collected are used strictly for the mission of St. Vincent de Paul in our area. Thank you for your generous contributions that allow us to meet the needs of those less fortunate in our community.

You are invited to join with others of the parish to recite the Rosary 20 minutes before each Mass during the month of October in the church.

There will be a Living Rosary recited at St. Patrick Parish in honor of Our Lady of Fatima on the 100th Anniversary of the apparitions in Portugal on October 15th. Our 8th graders in the Faith Formation Program will be leading us in prayer. All are welcome ...please join all those participating in this living prayer at 10:00 am in the Church.

A Manifesting the Kingdom award was recently given

by Bishop David Zubik to laywomen and laymen and to consecrated women and men. These men and wom-

en have demonstrated the presence of Jesus in their

lives and have participated in an exceptional service to

the Church reflected in so many different ways in the lives, ministry and work of

those who receive it.

The Diocese of Pittsburgh recognized these awardees, who work alongside their priests in the myriad tasks of the kingdom. Each pastor nominated candidates for the award as do the major superiors of religious communities. Please help us congratulate David and Kathy Fontana as the recipients from St. Patrick Parish.
