“IMPOSSIBLE BLOSSOMS” EXHIBITED AT SHSomerville High School art students created an “Impossible Blossoms” winter exhibit in the school’s outdoor courtyard, which

was inspired by the artistic style of contempo-rary artist, Sandy Skoglund. Art andPhotography Club members, along with SHS artstudents, designed tissue paper f lowers underthe direction of staff members, Lynn Bielicky,Lisa Conklin, and Susan Shelton. The project was completed in two phases.

During February, Photography Club members,

in support of the school’s character educationprogram, delivered colorful tissue paper bou-quets to neighbors. What a surprising spring-like experience on a cold winter’s day!In March, students transformed the high

school’s exterior courtyard space into a tempo-rary sea of spring blooms created by installinghundreds of handmade tissue paper f lowers. The temporary exhibit was a visual masterpieceenjoyed by the entire Somerville High Schoolcommunity.

May 28, 2010, the school community took tothe Van Derveer fields to celebrate MemorialDay. Students sported sunglasses and towels asthey enjoyed a picnic lunch and fun-filled dayin the sun. The voting experience and sense ofschool community illustrated democracy inaction.
