Building Update A respite in the rain has meant that construction of the new Faith Formation Center is going forward at full speed! Insulation and waterproofing is under-way on the west wing, which is the teen wing of the building. Foundation work will begin on the atrium and the elementary wing of the building. In order to be ready for the opening day of faith formation, work has started on the path between the Marron Center and the church and the new parking lot.

The Psalms tell the "inside" story, which comes from the deeply personal perspec-tive of one who is seeking God. Our com-munication with God is enhanced by a deeper understanding of the book of Psalms and of the individual psalms that reside in each of our hearts. Join us as we

study this important book of the Bible. Beginning Wednesday, Octo-ber 3 and continuing through December 19, the Psalms class is of-fered either at 9 am or 7 pm.. Go to seaschurch.com to register or call the parish office.

Our second collection today is for Hope for the Future. The Mission of Hope for the Future is to fund every de-serving child whose family seeks the faith-filled and aca-demically rigorous education at one of our Catholic

schools. Since its inception in December 2006, Hope for the Future has awarded over $12 million in tuition assistance funds to 9,800 stu-dents. Each year, however, children remain on the waitlist—waiting for funding. You can help make a family’s dream of a Catholic educa-tion come true through your donation today.

THEY ARE HERE! Our pictorial di-rectories have arrived! Please pick up your copy after Mass or at the parish office during business

Divine Mercy Chaplet Won’t you join us on Wednesday, Octo-ber 3, at 6:30 in the cry room to recite the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy? Prior to praying the Chaplet we will pause to recall our special intentions and espe-cially the names of the sick and the dy-ing for whom we are praying. Everyone is welcome.

KNOW THE ANGELS Make yourself familiar with the angels, and be-hold them frequently in spirit. Without being seen, they are present with you. --St. Francis de Sales

Meet our new EDGE Coordinator We would like to introduce Luis Ramirez as our new coor-dinator of our middle school faith formation program, EDGE. Luis and his wife, Liz, have been parishioners at SEAS for the past 12 years.

Luis has been active in several SEAS ministries including Men’s ACTS, Encuentro, and RCIA. He also serves as a sacristan. After retiring from USAA, Luis was able to de-vote more time and energy to serving in the parish. He said he felt God was calling him to serve with the youth of our parish. “I’m so blessed to be coordinator of EDGE because it is such an amazing opportunity to accompany these in-credible young people on their faith journey.” He is also looking forward to working with the core volunteers, which is comprised of parishioners who are dedicated to strength-ening the connection between teens and their faith. “Together we are working to keep our young people en-gaged in the Gospel and in their Catholic faith.” The EDGE program begins Tuesday, October 16 at 6:30 pm in the Marron Center. To register your middle school student, please scan the QR code with your smart phone’s photo app.

Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time In these times of increasing disparity between the richest among us and the poorest, and the decline of the middle class, much discussion goes on over what constitutes a "living wage." With employers crying that higher wages will bankrupt them, and politicians warning that paying a living wage will destroy jobs, we see a dilemma over the treatment of the poor and the middle class. Unions, which once assured work-ers a voice in negotiations with employers, are be-coming weaker and are besieged by corporations and politicians. Where is God in all of this? The Letter of James speaks clearly and forcefully about the fate of the rich in their dealings with the poor and with workers. "Behold, the wages you with-held from the workers . . . are crying aloud . . . and . . . have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts." Those who are oppressed are equated with the suffering Christ, as the rich are addressed, "You have con-demned, you have murdered the righteous one; he offers you no resistance." Clearly, what we have done to the least ones, we have done to our Lord. ALL THE PEOPLE OF THE LORD When Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp, away from the other prophets, Joshua, Moses' beloved aide, urges Moses to stop them. Moses re-plies "Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets!" He proclaims that grace abounds for all and that the word of the Lord should be proclaimed by all the people. We see a similar situation in the Gospel of Mark. John tells Jesus that someone who does not follow him with them is driving out demons in Jesus' name. Jesus replies "Do not prevent him . . . For whoever is not against us is for us." In other words, Jesus is say-ing the same thing as Moses: Would that all the peo-ple prophesied in God's name! THE DEVASTATION OF SIN Jesus goes on to teach about sin and its consequenc-es. "Whoever causes one of these little ones who be-lieve in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck and he were thrown into the sea." By "little ones," Jesus means the humble followers as well as innocent children who love him. Certainly those who have abused chil-dren have not caused the children "to sin," but have made them victims of the worst kind of abuse. These people are worthy of condemnation. Jesus next points out something so strong in its con-demnation of sin that it alarms us when we hear it, knowing that we all are sinners. But Jesus often speaks in metaphors and parables, and it is not neces-sary to take his teaching about cutting off hands and feet and gouging out eyes literally. It can be taken to mean that if we are guilty of sin, we should make an immediate break from our sinfulness and return to God. Better to cut sin out of our life than to enter into eternal darkness.

--Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
