The month of October has long been designated at the month of the Holy Rosary – an entire month dedi-cated to asking Mary to pray for our needs. In addition to October, the Church also calls us to set aside the month of
May for the same purpose. On May 31st we celebrate the Visitation of Mary and we commemorate her apparition at Fatima on May 13, 1917.
In terms of October, the 7th is a special day dedicated to Our Lady
of the Rosary. This feast has its roots in October of 1571. Europeans were under attack from Muslims who had killed many and forced others to convert to Islam. Pope Pius V called people to pray the rosary in a pub-lic procession asking Mary to help them in this difficult situation. The Bat-tle of Lepanto was a turning point in this struggle against evil. The Euro-pean navy was able to be victorious over the Muslim navy. Pope Pius therefore established October as a month to honor Our Lady of Victory. Gregory XIII went on to designate the first Sunday of October as the feast of the Holy Rosary.
The Holy Rosary is meditation on the mystery of Our Lord’s life,
death and resurrection. This prayer helps us to resolve our problems whether they are spiritual or material. There are countless testimonies throughout history to the power of the Holy Rosary. In fact, St Teresa of Avila said, “The Rosary is a totally divine devotion, a wellspring of grace, a chain that unites earth to Heaven, a rainbow of peace in the firmament of the Church.”
Let us take this month as an opportunity to ask Mary to intercede
for us and our needs, praying for the protection of human life in all its forms. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.

El mes de octubre ha sido designado durante mucho tiempo el mes del Santo Rosario, un mes entero dedicado a pedirle a Marí a que ore por nuestras nece-sidades. Adema s, en octubre, la Iglesia tambie n nos
pide reservar el mes de mayo con el mismo propo sito. El 31 de mayo celebramos la Visitacio n de Marí a y conmemoramos su aparicio n en Fa tima el 13 de mayo de 1917.
En octubre, el 7 es un dí a especial dedicado a Nuestra Sen ora
del Rosario. Esta fiesta tiene sus raí ces en octubre de 1571. Los euro-peos fueron atacados por musulmanes que mataron a muchos y obliga-ron a otros a convertirse al Islam. El papa Pí o V llamo a la gente a rezar el rosario en una procesio n pu blica pidie ndole a Marí a que los ayudara en esta difí cil situacio n. La batalla de Lepanto fue un punto de inflexio n en esta lucha contra el mal. La armada europea pudo vencer a la arma-da musulmana. Por lo tanto, el Papa Pí o establecio octubre como un mes para honrar a Nuestra Sen ora de la Victoria. Gregorio XIII designo el primer domingo de octubre como la fiesta del Santo Rosario.
El Santo Rosario es meditacio n sobre el misterio de la vida,
muerte y resurreccio n de Nuestro Sen or. Esta oracio n nos ayuda a re-solver nuestros problemas, ya sean espirituales o materiales. Hay innu-merables testimonios a lo largo de la historia sobre el poder del Santo Rosario. De hecho, Santa Teresa de A vila dijo: "El Rosario es una devo-cio n totalmente divina, una fuente de gracia, una cadena que une la tierra al Cielo, un arcoí ris de paz en el firmamento de la Iglesia".
Aprovechemos este mes como una oportunidad para pedirle a
Marí a que interceda por nosotros y nuestras necesidades, orando por la proteccio n de la vida humana en todas sus formas. Marí a, Madre de Dios, ruega por nosotros.
