According to ancient tradition on the Feast of the Epiphany Christians bless their home by marking the door and filling the house with the fragrance of blessed incense. We invite you to adopt this custom in your family. The family gathers to ask Gods blessing on their home and on those who live in or visit the house. It is an invitation to Jesus to be a daily guest in our lives, our comings and goings, our conversations, our work and relaxation, our joys and our sorrows. The traditional way of doing this is to use chalk to write above or on the main entrance of the house or room: 21+C+M+B+21. The letters C, M, B have two meanings. They are the initials of the traditional names of the three magi: Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar. They also abbreviate the Latin words: Christus mansionem benedicat, which means May Christ bless the house. The “+” signs represent the cross and 2021 is the year. With time the chalk will fade. As it does we let the meaning of the symbols written sink into the depths of our heart and be manifest in our words and the words: May Christ bless this house. FOR MASS TIMES go to page 3. In a new Apostolic Letter entitled Patris corde (“ With a Fathers Heart Pope Francis describes Saint Joseph as a beloved father, a tender and loving father, an obedient father, an accepting father; a father who is creatively courageous, a working father, a father in the shadows. The Letter marks the 150th anniversary of Blessed Pope Pius IXs declaration of St Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. To celebrate the anniversary, Pope Francis has proclaimed a special Year of St Joseph, beginning on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception 2020 and extending to the same feast in 2021.
