KROHNE gives users an overview of the complete spectrum of measuring technology with the cur-rent industry brochure for the water and wastewa-ter industry. The brochure covers the areas of fl ow, level, analysis, pressure and temperature. It uses well-known companies in the industry to demon-strate examples of solutions even for diffi cult ap-plications. With the help of graphic visual aids, measuring stations from the water and wastewater industry are depicted. State-of-the-art technology is presented in purifi cation plants and waterworks along the entire length of the production chain.

KROHNE offers a valuable planning aid for fl ow, level, analysis, pressure and temperature on one CD. The CD refl ects the current state of the art and is thus an indispensable support for every planner in his daily work. The CD also provides access to all the information available at www.krohne-water.com, even without Internet access. Whereas in the past unspecifi c inquir-ies have often led to further inquiries, now with the help of the CD, descriptive texts can be completely and precisely compiled with just a few clicks. The fi rst step takes care of parame-ter selection. Adapted to user input, the system generates appropriate texts, which can then be transferred to a planning system by copying and pasting in a fi nal step. Important formats for planners, GAEP, Word and Excel, are taken into account here.

The KROHNE CD offers users graphic visual aids in which, for example, measuring stations in purifi cation plants are illustrated using fl ow charts. Calculating programmes as well as exten-sive descriptions of measuring devices facilitate design for the user. Data sheets, operating in-structions and technical and installation tips serve as valuable support for the planner. A direct search for measuring stations and a quick search complete the CD’s functionality and a series of fi lm clips make everything easier to understand.

OPTIMASS at Akzo Nobel

World leading producer of paints and coat-ings, Akzo Nobel Decorative Coatings, has installed four KROHNE OPTIMASS Coriolis Mass fl owmeters to help accurately control product consistency and minimise produc-tion costs.

The OPTIMASS fl owmeters control the vol-ume of chemicals that are added to Akzo Nobel’s Crown range of solvent-based paint products at its manufacturing plant in Dar-wen, Lancashire. Accurately measuring the amount added to the paint is essential to minimising costs and maintaining consistent product quality.

The chemicals are contained in stainless steel storage vessels, which are located 70 meters away from the production facil-ity. They are pumped at low pressure through the OPTIMASS fl owmeters and in to mixing vessels where the paint is manufactured in batches.

Akzo Nobel selects OPTIMASS to control

product consistency and manufacturing costs

The fl owmeters accurately measure the fl ow of the chemicals into the paint mixing ves-sels. Signals from the instruments are fed into the production control system which controls the fl ow of the chemicals from the storage vessels to ensure that the correct amount is added.

Previously Akzo Nobel measured the amount of chemical added to batches of paint using a load cell-based weighing system. However this did not provide suffi cient measurement accuracy for the range of batch sizes to be manufactured.

The OPTIMASS, with its single straight meas-uring tube, features a patented AST design which offers outstanding accuracy and stabil-ity when used on low fl ow rate applications.

By installing fl owmeters Akzo Nobel has au-tomated the process and signifi cantly im-proved measurement accuracy.

With the OPTISONIC 6300 large KROHNE now introduces a variation of the clamp-on ultrasonic fl owmeter for large sizes. The sensors are available in three versions: for small pipe diameters (up to DN 100/ 4“), for medium-sized pipes (up to DN 400/ 16“) and for large pipes (up to DN 4000/ 160“).

The times of cheap energy are over and ef-fi ciency is once again of vital importance. Bentzen Elektro (Norway) helps vessel own-ers to monitor their fuel consumption using KROHNE’s OPTIMASS 1300 Coriolis mass fl owmeter, introduced at last years ACHEMA. The FCM 2000 Fuel Consumption Monitor-ing system, Bentzen Elektro offers, is used to fi nd the ideal combination of propeller pitch and engine RPM for the actual load condition. This way, minimal reductions in pitch and speed may provide signifi cant accumulat-ed fuel savings. The Bentzen Elektro system not only reduces the amount of combusted fuel, but also the emissions. The FCM 2000 uses OPTIMASS fl owmeters from KROHNE. Bentzen Elektro installed OPTIMASS because it is maintenance free and does not contain parts that could obstruct fuel fl ow if a mal-function should occur. OPTIMASS measures Marine Gas Oil or heavy fuel for propulsion.

The OPTIMASS 1300 reliably records mass fl ow, density, temperature and concentra-tion of both liquids and gases. In addition, the OPTIMASS 1000 sensor is the only mass fl owmeter in its class to feature secondary containment. The straight double measuring tube is made of stainless steel as standard and features an optimized fl ow splitter for minimal pressure loss. This guarantees the ability to easily clean and drain the tube. Like the OPTIMASS 7000, the OPTIMASS 1000 is independent of the type of installation as well as external infl uences. Common process

connections as well as hygienic connections are available.

The new MFC 300 converter is based on the same platform as the IFC 300 and is thus adaptable to virtually all I/O requirements and sets new standards in the area of diag-nosis and process diagnosis.

The OPTIMASS 1300 also features an impres-sive price-performance ratio.

The largest chemical company in the world, BASF, has adopted the OPTIFLUX 5300 elec-tro-magnetic fl owmeter as standard. The OPTIFLUX 4300 had previously passed a type test and been integrated to the standard, and BASF has now also transferred the results to the versions with ceramic measuring tube linings. This means that the OPTIFLUX 5300 is part of the worldwide framework contract, making KROHNE an offi cial global supplier of fl ow and level measuring equipment to BASF.

The fl anged version of the OPTIFLUX 5300 from KROHNE is also available with the new high performance ceramics for small nomi-nal diameters from DN 15 to DN 100. The fl anges protect the ceramic lining of the OPTIFLUX from damage, particularly during installation. The fl anged version also offers

the customer increased protection against leakage of the process medium in case of fi re. KROHNE has drastically reduced the number of parts that come into contact with the process medium. Apart from the ceram-ics, only the seals and the electrodes now make contact.

Electro-magnetic fl owmeters with ceramic lining are mainly used where highly precise measurements of chemically aggressive or abrasive process media are required. The ceramic measuring pipe is independently mounted and does not come into direct con-tact with the pipeline fl anges.

The fl ange connections for smaller nomi-nal diameters from KROHNE have extend-ed the range of solutions for all chemical applications.

OPTIMASS at Akzo Nobel

World leading producer of paints and coat-ings, Akzo Nobel Decorative Coatings, has installed four KROHNE OPTIMASS Coriolis Mass fl owmeters to help accurately control product consistency and minimise produc-tion costs.
