S.ROQUE INVADES THE SCREEN PRINTING INDUSTRY!

Unless you are a very recent owner of your S.Roque equipment, we are sure that you have already seen the notification from your machine that it is time to perform maintenance, in other-words you have seen the pretty little maintenance man icon holding the wrench on your screen. This is your notification that you have reached a 50,000 cycle count and maintenance is required. Once complete, tune the power on and in suspend mode cycle the machine in automatic for two minutes. This will spread the lubrication inside Geneva gear bearing guides. FEATURED CLIENT TIPS FOR AUTOMATICS

RYONET REGAL • VOL 1, NO. 1

I was introduced to Forward Printing from Oakland, California at a National Business Media, Inc. (NBM) trade show in Long Beach, California in 2007, and ever since have been continually impressed with their knowledge of the industry.

In 2013, Kevin and Dan Corcoran, along with the rest of the crew from Forward Printing, became proud parents of an S.Roque ECO XL P16/C14 (lovingly known as “Joyce”). Not long after, a YOU XL P12/C08 (“Dennis”) joined the family. Both presses are named after their parents, who they graciously credit for support and upbringing giving them the courage to pursue their dreams.

When I thought of clients to get feedback on S.Roque before Ryonet® made the decision to switch from a low level distributor of M&R to the mainline North American provider of S.Roque, I immediately thought of the Corcoran Brothers.

I took Bobby Panico to Oakland to their old facility, and Dan met us at the door and eagerly questioned why we were there. We told Dan that we wanted discuss and get his opinion about something. His response was “I had a feeling that this was where it was going.” When Kevin joined the introduction, his response was something along the line of “Sweet, I’ve been using the S.Roque catalogue as bathroom reading since I saw it at the show.

It was a great beginning to a new “green” relationship.

Now Forward Printing is a Ryonet® training partner teaching Screen Printing Experience classes once a month. Kevin

New automatic press? Your first job a spot process job and you’re confident it can be printed with no problems? You did it on a manual, without any problems—let’s take a closer look.

On a manual you can cheat, you are used to flashing whenever you need to, and whenever you want.

Look at the white under-base. On manual presses, bulletproof prints includes multiple strokes/flash instances. But now you have an automatic press, let’s not make a bulletproof shirt (i.e. tons of under-base ink).

Automatic printing is designed for speed and consistency, but not for flashing between each color. Flash and cool stations will cut the amount of working print stations that can be used. For example a six color automatic press will have at least one flash, reducing the print stations to five or even four colors if a cool down station is used.

It all starts with your artwork. Spot colors may be a cinch to separate, however making the transition to automatic printing can be very difficult. Each color will be touched by the next screen (stepped on). With a solid white under-base the ink will not be absorbed into the fabric, but applied to a white displacement of plastic. Below are a few helpful ways to reduce solid white bases.

• Light to dark may be out the window, try a new print order from the smallest image to the largest regardless of color.

• Try moving the darkest color first prior to the white base. 1. black, 2. white, 3. flash, 4. cool, 5 and 6 colors.

• Break up large areas of white. Use an under-base and a highlight white to make it pop.

• Use higher mesh counts. 156-200 for under bases, 230-280 for overprint colors. Let the machine do the work. Reduce flash times, less ink on the substrate equals low flash times, faster process times and a softer hand.

• Bye bye bulletproof tons of plastic shirt.

• Try printing off the under-base, use a high opacity ink and move the screen towards the end of the print sequence.

• Try using a 75% halftone for large areas of color that would otherwise be printed with a solid white. This helps to reduce the overall hand. Think simulated process!

Upgrade: Forward just recently added in-line flock and in-line foil as a technology demonstration site for Ryonet®. We cant wait to see what Kevin and Dan do!

Joyce: Preparations to install “Joyce”.
