Generally increase in numbers across the board

Notable exception: Safety Boat at a 6-year low


Certificate security

• Who can issue?

• Where/how are they stored?

• Who registers them?


Accidents and incidents

How do staff use equipment in their down time?

Is this covered in your ops docs?

Of duty incidents/accidents in recent years include:

• Two PWs colliding - broken shoulder, ribs and rupture

spleen (practicing before an instructor course)

• Two ringos colliding - head injury

• Run away powerboat - no injuries (collecting safety boat

prior to session)

• Two powerboats colliding - fractured pelvis (on return from

safety boat driving)


Personal Watercraft

• Increase in both the PWPP and the PWSY

• Check the recoil on the throttle isn’t sticking

• Collision regulations must be taught practically using a

course marked out with buoys


Powerability

• Must be an RTC

• Must be taught by PBI

• Must be a Sailability Centre

• Same ratios as for PB tuition

• Volunteering opportunities for PBIs

A single syllabus with certificates for

achieving multiple tasks

Health of the schemes – Windsurfing

• Windsurfing certificate sales show an downward trend especially at a Start Level:

– Pilot run during 2016 suggests:

• Centres fly the flag, but not certificating courses

– Big drop in overseas RYA certification sales, why might this be?

– Discussion groups will look at, please provide us with your input:

• Courses relevance

• Course hours/length

• Instructor delivery

• Certificate style

• Youth WS is mainly up on last year


Windsurfing Pilot

• Run during 2016

• UK and Overseas centres

• Certification: Progression style cards vs standard

certificates

• Course length – guided hours vs stipulated timeframe

• Syllabus modification

– ‘Less theory more practical’

• Feasibility of Start Instructors instructing more advanced

elements under Principals guidance


WindSUPs

• Recognised for Introductory and Start sessions

• ONLY suitable and approved boards will be allowed under

RYA Recognition

• They have limitations, but increase accessibility

• They will only be accepted as an addition to regular

windsurfing boards

• Please contact RYA Training for advice and guidance
