Hartford Hospital joined the City of Hartford and other area employers on May 31 in announcing a new incen-tive program to assist employees who want to purchase homes in Hartford neighborhoods.

The Hartford Homeownership Incen-tive Program (HIP) will provide employ-ees who meet certain eligibility criteria with $10,000 in forgivable loans to buy homes in the Asylum Hill, Frog Hollow or other downtown neighborhood.

Hartford Hospital was a driving force in bringing this program to Hartford.

The hospital supports the city and is ful-ly committed to its success and growth. The hospital also is fully committed to our staff members, and helping them achieve the American dream of home ownership.

Home ownership in Hartford would save commuting time and gas and give staff easy access to many benefits that Hart-ford has to offer – museums, entertain-ment, parks, libraries and restaurants.

Studies have shown that increased homeowner-ship within a community stabilizes and revitalizes the community.

Homeowners are more likely to maintain and improve their property, thereby improving the whole neighborhood.

We are thrilled to be a part of that revitalization.

There will be five loans to Hartford Hospital em-ployees this year, and if the program is suc-cessful, we look forward to offering more in the years to come.

Aetna, Connecticut Chil-dren’s Medical Center, St. Francis Hospital and Trinity College also are participating. Each organiza-tion agreed to fund at least five grants in the program’s first year.

We will provide more details in the near future for staff members who may be interested in applying for the forgivable $10,000 loan.
