In Memoriam: Geoff Gunn, Public SafetyGeoff Gunn passed away unexpect-edly at Hartford Hospital on Nov. 30 at the age of 45.

For the past 21 years, Geoff was an employee of Hartford Hospital as a communications specialist in the Public Safety Department.

Geoff dispatched several emergen-cy response functions including Public Safety, LifeStar and emer-gency operations.

He was known for his wit and sense of humor, but most of all for his ded-ication to the success of the Public Safety and LifeStar teams and for being a great teacher and mentor to others.

Hartford Hospital held a memori-al and flag lowering ceremony on Monday (Dec. 2) at the flagpole in front of the main entrance.

Geoff was passionate about many things, including his family and friends, ice hockey, waterskiing, music, cooking, and working with his hands.

He is survived by his father David, his daughter Brigette and her mother Don-na Chisnall, his fian-cee Dani Hale and her daughters Emma and Bailey, and his brother Peter and nephews Couper and William, as well as extended family and friends.

His family will re-ceive friends on Fri-day, Dec. 6 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Nicholson & Car-mon Funeral Home on Roue 159 in Suff-ield, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. at Second Baptist Church in Suffield.

United Way CornerStrengthening our community, one family at a time

One of the United Way agencies, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), is looking for volunteers.

VITA volunteers help families get the tax refunds they’ve earned, and give them an extra boost to get ahead financially, pay down debt and work toward saving for the future.

This past tax season, United Way and its partners supported 30 VITA sites through partnerships with community-based organizations in Hartford, En-field, Manchester, New Britain and Windham region.

Volunteer commitment is a once per week, four-hour session from mid-January to mid-April.

Volunteers learn valuable, life-long skills and obtain an IRS certifica-tion for their resume.
