Trojan Override Coupling

All Trojan Couplings are the snap lock type and all comply with Australian Standard ASA41707.3 [1994] These couplings have a compression spring as a dampening medium and for strength the head and main-shaft are a one piece SG iron casting. DURATORQUESGeneral Information

Duratorque is a superior suspension system that is suitable for fitment to and use on all types of trailers. Using specially formulated rubber cords as a springing medium, Duratorques are totally self-contained and easily fitted to the trailer chassis. Because the two sides are not connected, each wheel is sprung independently.

All Duratorque components are either galvanised or electro zinc plated for protection against corrosion.

From July 2011, 1000kg to 1750kg versions are fitted with a bolt in replaceable stub axle.

Carrying capacities for duratorques are 1000kg, 1500kg, 1750kg & 2200kg in both two piece and full beam types and 3000kg in full beam only. These capacities are for single axle applications. When mounted in tandem the capacity must be reduced by 25% i.e. two 1500kg full beam duratorques will carry 2250kg. Note that duratorque half axles are each labeled with the total capacity per pair, not each side.

All duratorques are able to be fitted with non braked or braked hubs. These brakes can be hydraulic disc, 1500kg, 1750kg, 2200kg & 3000kg capacities. Electric drum brakes in 1500kg, 1750kg & 2000kg capacities and hydraulic drum brakes in 1250kg capacity. Available as two piece units which will fit any chassis width and which are available from stock or as full beam or one piece units which are manufactured to the customers specifications. Full beams are also available in gull wing form for fitment to boat trailers allowing the boat to sit lower on the trailer.

It is recommended that Duratorques be mounted to the trailer with the swing arms trailing. When mounted in tandem the distance between the tyres be kept to a minimum and should not exceed 150mm. The distance between the top of the tyres and the mudguards when the Duratorques are new and unloaded should be at least 120mm. When mounted in tandem and only axle is braked this must be the front axle.

When ordering full beam Duratorques the customer is to supply certain information. See page 4.

Shown below are standard dimensions for all duratorques. Mounting brackets on full beams can be re-positioned to suit customers requirements.

Ordering Full Beam Duratorques

CARRYING CAPACITYThis is the maximum load including the trailer weight.

GULL WING TYPEMeasurements A & B are required plus C which is the required depth of the bend. This can be 60mm, 90mm or 120mm.

AXLESTrojan manufactures a wide range of beam axles to suit most applications. These axles are for use with leaf spring suspensions and include straight beam, drop beam, overlay & gull wing types. Braked and non braked versions are available in all types. All Trojan beam axles are manufactured using Rolled Hollow Section tube [RHS] and this offers many advantages over solid beam axles. They are as strong as solid beams, lighter in weight and can be galvanised at an economical price. Depending on the capacity of the axle, the beams are either 50mm x 50mm x 5mm or 65mm x 65mm x 6mm RHS. A range of common lengths and types are carried in stock and specials can be manufactured to order. Beam axles are supplied with axle nuts, washers & split pins plus, when braked, the caliper mounting bracket. Hub equipment is to be ordered separately. The following information is required when ordering beam axles. WEIGHT CAPACITY.This is the maximum all up weight of the trailer and its load.

LENGTH OF AXLE.This is the measurement from the end to end of the stub axles.

SPRING MOUNTING CENTRES.This is the measurement from the centre to centre of the springs.

HUB EQUIPMENT.Are axles to be braked or non braked. If braked you will need to know what type, Disc Braked, mechanical or hydraulic, Drum braked, electric, hydraulic or mechanical. What is the stud pattern to be. What bearings, LM or SL.

GULL WING AXLES.Measurements A, B & C required. C is the depth of the bend and can be 60mm, 90mm or 120mm.

DROP BEAM & OVERLAY AXLESMeasurements A & B required plus D for drop beam axles. This drop can be 60mm or 90mm.

Trojan non braked heavy duty hub kits feature hubs that have provision for fitting brake rotors at a later time. The stub axles are supplied with a caliper mount fitted. Refer page for brake upgrade components. Two models of these hubs are offered being 2000kg capacity per pair and 3000kg capacity per pair. Each hub kit includes one studded hub, bearings, seal, grease cap, axle nut & split pin.

HUB KITS - DISC BRAKEDTrojan offer a range of disc braked hub kits to suit most applications. These include integral hub & rotor types and bolt on rotor versions giving a choice of cast iron or stainless steel rotors. The 3000kg version has vented rotors, also available in cast iron or stainless steel. All Trojan Disc Hubs are either galvanised or electro zinc plated for protection as are the rotors when cast iron type. A range of brake calipers are available for these hubs Note: Calipers are not included in these hub kits

Trojan offer two sizes of Electric Drum Brakes being 10” and 12” drum diameters. The 10” version is available with either LM or SL bearings and a number of common wheel drillings. The 12” version is only available drilled to 6 stud. These brakes are suitable for a wide range of applications but are not recommended for boat trailers. All versions have a mechanical park brake fitted.Each Hub Kit contains one Brake Drum, Backing Plate, Bearings, Grease Seal, Grease Cap & Axle Nut & Washer. Trojan Wheel Studs & Nuts

Trojan wheel studs are the ‘splined’ type and are ‘press fit’ into holes drilled in the hubs. Early model studs had a smaller diameter spline than the current versions but are now unavailable. To fit the current studs, the holes in the hubs will need to be re-drilled to 13.75mm or 1 7/32”. Trojan wheelnuts have ‘tapered seats’ and suit all common wheels.

GENERAL INFO - TROJAN BRAKE CALIPERSTrojan offer a range of brake calipers which cover all light trailer applications. This allows the user to select the correct product for their particular application.

The following pages show descriptions of the products available plus part numbers. Shown below is clarification of some of the terminology used.

Cast Iron Calipers - Hydraulic TypeThese are cast in SG iron and are Electro Zinc Plated for protection against corrosion. These calipers are fitted with a Phenolic piston which is a high strength non rusting material. Fittings, such as slide pins and bleed screws, are brass while other fittings are Stainless Steel. These calipers have a stopping capacity of 1500kg per pair when used with 225mm dia rotors and 2000kg with 275mm dia rotors.

Stainless Steel Calipers - Hydraulic TypeThese are cast in high grade Stainless Steel and offer total protection against corrosion. Ideally suited for fitment to boat trailers. These calipers are also fitted with Phenolic pistons and other fittings are either brass or stainless steel. The brake pads supplied with these calipers have a stainless steel backing plate. Other specifications are the same as the above cast iron version.

Bolt On Mechanical Park Brake ConversionThese assemblies allow the conversion of Trojan hydraulic calipers to incorporate a mechanical park brake. No modifications are required to the calipers. All components are stainless steel and all parts are supplied with the assembly allow simple fitment.

3000kg capacity Hydraulic Brake CalipersThese are available in either Plated Cast Iron or Stainless Steel plus a Stainless Version is available with an integral mechanical park brake. These calipers are imported from the USA together with the Disc Rotors. The calipers are high quality and are fitted with stainless steel pistons and fittings. The mounting plate supplied allows the direct conversion from 12” dia electric drum brakes, as fitted to most imported USA built trailers and caravans, to the more efficient hydraulic disc brakes.

Cable operated Calipers - Mechanical typeThese calipers are cast in SG iron and are Electro Zinc Plated for protection against corrosion. All fittings are either Stainless Steel or brass. The mountings are the same as the hydraulic versions. Two types of these calipers are available being forward pull, where the cables are routed direct from the operating coupling to the calipers, and centre pull where the cables are routed down the centre of the chassis and through a cable guide mounted on the axle. These mechanical calipers can be used for primary braking or as a park brake only. These calipers are rated at 1250kg per pair with 225mm dia rotors.

DISC BRAKE CALIPERS Trojan offer a range of disc brake calipers to suit most applications. These include types to operate both mechanical and hydraulic brakes. A stainless steel bolt on parkbrake fitting is available to suit both the cast iron and stainless steel calipers. These are available in both forward pull and centre pull options.The stainless steel calipers are supplied with brake pads which have stainless steel backing plates. All Trojan hydraulic calipers are fitted with Phenolic Pistons and all fittings are either stainless or brass. A Stainless Steel Caliper is available fitted with an integral mechanical park brake and all Stainless Calipers are supplied with brake pads that have a Stainless Steel backing plate. The actuator, which mounts on the trailer, is activated via a controller which is mounted in the cab of the tow vehicle. Electric current is supplied through the controller to the activator which operates the brakes by way of a hydraulic pump. The controller allows adjustment of the braking effort to suit load and road conditions.

JOCKEY WHEELS - ECONOMY STYLEThese Trojan Jockey Wheels are a economy product. They are the ‘wind-up’ type and are available with a ‘quick release’ clamp (6” model only) or a ‘swivel bracket’. When towing, the quick release type needs to be removed from the trailer. Brackets are multi-fit and swivel models are fitted with a ‘double lock pin’. Finish is zinc plating.

JOCKEY WHEELS - PREMIUM STYLEThese Trojan Jockey Wheels are a premium product and offer many features including a folding handle. All components are galvanised and the mounting brackets are heavy duty. The ‘Swivel Bracket’ allows the Jockey Wheel to be folded away when towing and a double lock pin is fitted for safety. Trojan Load-Leveller

The Trojan Load-Leveller is a weight distribution hitch which fits onto the draw bar of the trailer and is connected to the vehicle’s tow bar by way of two parabolic springs. By adjusting the spring tension, tail sag caused by the load on the tow bar can be eliminated and in doing so weight is transferred back onto the front wheels of the tow vehicle. One of the benefits in redistributing the load is it helps eliminate sway. Please note: Not recommended for off road use.

Roll-N-Lock Cargo Manager

Cargo Master is an optional companion product for Roll-N-Lock ute bed covers. It is a moveable bed divider that can be positioned every 75mm along the length of the bed to manage and contain lightweight cargo. Cargo Master is repositioned by simply squeezing the control levers. The spring activated mechanism automatically pins the divider to each side track in the next nearest slot. When combined with the Roll-N-Lock retractable bed covers, the combination gives Ute owners the ability to cover and secure the contents of the bed but also prevents objects from shifting when stopping or turning abruptly.

Easy Positioning of loadCargo Managers spring loaded control levers enable the divider to be positioned every 75mm along the bed length. This is achieved from one side.

TRAILCOM LIMITED WARRANTS that they will replace or repair without charge, any TROJAN brand trailer component, manufactured by themselves, which proves to be defective in material or workmanship within a period of twelve months from the date of proof of purchase.

This warranty covers normal used and does not cover damage which results from alterations, misues, accident, neglect or improper installation, operation or maintenance.

TRAILCOM LIMITED’s obligation under this warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the defective component. In no event shall TRAILCOM LIMITED be liable for any consequential, indirect or incidental damage of any kind incurred by reason of the manufacture, sale, or use of any defective component. Nor will they be responsible for any charges for repairs carried out to the defective components by people other than themselves unless prior authorisation has been granted in writing.

Products sold by TRAILCOM LIMITED under the TROJAN brand name but that are not manufactured themselves are covered by the warranty given by the manufacturer of such products.

BRAKING: Trailers up to 750kg gross mass do not require brakes. Trailers 750 to 2000kg gross mass require brakes on at least one axle. Can be operated by override system. Trailers 2000kg to 4500kg gross mass require brakes on all wheels. Operation to be driver controlled and to include a breakaway system which will automatically apply the trailer brakes should it become detached from the tow vehicle.

SUSPENSION: Trailers may have axles grouped and can be non load sharing if, when in tandem, the axles are no more than 2 metres apart or if three axles are fitted, these are no further than 3.2 metres apart overall and that each axle and its wheels and tyres are rated at 120% of the aggregate trailer mass (ATM).
