THE POWER OF PREVENTION

Life expectancy has increased a century ago.

On average you could expect to live only to about 47 years in USA, 30 years in India and China.

Life expectancy today has increased in China 75 years, in India 66 years and about 78 years in the USA.

Astoundingly, about half the gains in health overall recorded history were achieved in just the past 60 years and most occurred before the introduction of modern drugs, medical devices and treatments.

They came from public health programmes and disease prevention such as vaccination, better diet and exercise, lipid lowering medication and aspirin.

HEALTH CARE IS SHIFTING THE BALANCE OF POWER

Technological advances are driving part of this shift

Expanding shelfs over the counter tests, drugs, and internet technologies give today medical consumer autonomy

Once marginalized, consumer are taking more control over their own treatment

Innovations enable them to participate actively in diagnosis and treatment processes
