Program Brief
Education
Sponsorship for Children’s Education: A large numbers of underprivileged families both in rural and urban areas are unable to send their children in school due to their dire poverty as a result they remain out of education system(schools) and increase the number of illiterates. “Chalice”, a Canadian a charitable organization has been supporting Sponsorship project since 1998 around 5600 children from very poor families for their education and nutrition supports. Under this program children are given all educational related expenses such as: tuition fees, dresses, books, exercises, pen, pencils, special gifts, festival dresses, and food during festivals etc. May of the children are now continuing their education from primary to college levels. School Feeding Program: This program is supported by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to support school going children aiming to provide supplementary nutritious food, increase enrollment, increase class attendance, quality education and improvement of nutritional status of the children. This program is mainly run in the vulnerable and food deficit areas to help school children school goers. RRF has been given responsibility for delivering High Energy Biscuits(HEB) in the schools and monitoring the program. Around 311,000 school children are fed on schools days. Formal Education Program (Barnamala Bidyapith) RRF is running 09(nine) formal schools for the underprivileged children and in these schools around 2800 students are currently reading in. The main purpose of these schools are to increase the access of the poor children for quality education so that they can build up themselves as the good citizens of the country and improve their social and economic status in the community. Children have to pay a very minimum amount of money as tuition fees and on the other hand they receive quality education. Quality education is ensured in these schools Non-Formal Education (Barnamala Pre-School) Rural Reconstruction Foundation mainly operates community-based pre-school from 2011. In earlier period, Save the Children facilitated this program with technical assistance, later, RRF keeps this activities continuing. RRF driven microfinance program backs this project with full swing of financial support, whereas, the existing RRF formal Education program named “Barnamala Bidyapith” gives the technical support and undertakes to implement this project. This event is basically being implemented in RRF’s working area, more particularly inside RRF driven formal-education catchments. All children between four to five years of age who are likely to start school in next year are considered to be enrolled in these pre-school. The students are not more than 30 for each school, so that they can make an impressive start from grade one. The name of all these pre-school is “Barnamala Pre-School” having one teacher per school for two hours long teaching learning activities in every school day. These schools maintain the government developed “operational framework for pre-school”. Students are aided to organize their daily lessons and homework assigned by the school teachers. In addition, in the community based pre-school students get involved in extracurricular activities like, singing, dancing, recitation, story-telling, comics, acting etc. that help to build their level of confidence. Plenty of education materials along with digital device make a good learning atmosphere inside the classroom that attracted the kids for coming school regularly. In 2015-16, 12 number of pre-school keep going to implement this event having a total of 283 students. RRF “Community Healthcare Program” basically seeks to ensure complete healthcare services in grass route level. Even the country’s healthcare status has reached a crossroads where success can be rejoiced but those could be short-lived if certain challenges are not met. Still lots of gaps are making some concern in this regards. From the Social Commitment, Rural Reconstruction Foundation started

“Community Healthcare Program” from September, 2015 without being depended for having any financial support from outside. This program has been designed in the light of Government of Bangladesh driven Community Clinic which is financially backed by RRF itself. Environment and Climate Change Community Disaster Resilience Project Rural Reconstruction Foundation has a seasoned experience to work with the community and the victims caused by natural disasters over the past three decades. In connection with this phenomenon, Rural Reconstruction Foundation began this Community Disaster Resilience through Participatory approach for Safe Shelter Awareness Project in Sathkhira district which being implemented since 01 April 2015 financially backed by Jursey Overseas Aid Commission in association with Habitat for Humanity Bangladesh. The working areas basically uphold Waterlogging, Flooding, Tidal surges and Diseases outbreak. The focused attempt of this project is to promote disaster resilience for vulnerable people and low-income group applying PASSA methodology in order to enable the community to build their capacity in identifying hazards and vulnerabilities, recognize and analyze causes of shelter vulnerability, prioritize the strategy to improve shelter safety. Emergency Assistance: As Bangladesh is a calamity prone area, almost every year she has to face different types of natural disasters. To face both natural and manmade disasters RRF has made an emergency fund of worth Taka 10 million to face any unpredicted emergencies to respond immediately without donor’s fund. During the previous disasters RRF with the supports of different donors helped the victims with relief and rehabilitation in 2010 year with worth of Tk.790 million. RRF has already build-up a 6 member strong Disaster Mitigation Team who are capable to handle the primary emergency. Lately, in response to CCCP, RRF is belonging “Community based climate Change Adaption Programme” in association with Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) which is backed by Bangladesh Climate Change Resilience Fund (BCCRF). The area RRF covers Dhansagor and Southkhali union of Sharankhola Upazilla in Bagerhat District. This project been implemented from September 2014 and will be lasted till September 2016. The key objective of the project is to enhance the capacity of selected communities to increase their resilience to the adverse impacts of climate change. RRF-Biogas Rural Reconstruction Foundation has been implementing the Infrastructure Development Company (IDCOL) backed RRF- Biogas Project from November 2009. Basically this VGD; the largest government driven safety net program targets the ultra-poor households aiming to improve the quality of life and enhance the productive income generating opportunities of Vulnerable Group development (VGD card holder) women. The commitment of this project is to provide life skill training on Income Generating Activities as well as on Nutrition, Primary Health, Human Rights, AIDs, Reproductive Health, Gender, Environment issues etc. Currently about 3285 women from ultra-poor households receive a monthly food ration combined with a package of development services in Bagharpara and Abhaynagar upazilla in Jessore District. The development package includes life skills and income generating skills training as well as a personal savings programme and access to micro-credit membership. Ultra Poor Programme (UPP)- Ujjibito Targeting the vulnerable and women-headed household, RRF began the “Ultra Poor Programme (UPP)-Ujjibito from November, 2016 in Khulna division with financial and technical support of Palli Karma-Shayak Foundation (PKSF), European Union (EU) and in association with Local Government Engineering Department (LGED). This project is being implemented focusing on Food Security and diverse safety net, in order to sustainable graduation from ultra-poverty of vulnerable and women-headed households. The RRF driven Microfinance Program’s ultra-poor beneficiaries and Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) driven Rural Employment and Road Maintenance Program’s beneficiaries are being considered for this project benefits. The ultimate objectives of this project are- Sustainable graduation from ultra-poverty of nearly 325,000 vulnerable and women-headed households, Graduation from ultra-poverty is taken to imply not rising above the lower poverty line, but actually achieving household nutrition security, non-food purchasing power, improved asset base and social status Uplifting the Quality of the Lives of Elderly People Program Rural Reconstruction Foundation (RRF) began to implement “Uplifting the Quality of the Lives of Elderly People” program from July 2017. RRF in association with PKSF through its various innovative activities has been playing a vital role for the country's sustainable development. The key intension of this attempt is working for improving the living standard of senior citizen and aims to sustain the development through different kind of innovative activities
The most important thing for the elderly people is to provide emotional support. Even family members are in the first place to take this responsibility and if they fail then the institutions should take the responsibility. This is of course, elderly people not as a client, but as a man and serving them in a way so that it does not hurt their self-esteem. These project activities are designed by putting people in the center and upholding the human dignity.
Rural Reconstruction Foundation is implementing various programs to improve the living standard of senior citizen as part of the organization's multidimensional activities. Under the program, RRF is providing necessary supports, including establishment of social center, allowance for senior citizen, forming special savings and pension scheme and many others for the senior citizens of Godaipur unions in Khulna district.
Senior Citizen Welfare Program Bangladesh, with its 10 million out of 160 million in the older age group, is not out of the current global ageing stream and is facing a daunting challenge in providing social security, health care and other safety net programs to the seniors. At present, around 7 percent of Bangladesh's population constitutes the elderly population, but their absolute number (about 10 million) is quite significant, their rate of increase is also very alarming. About 8 million of them live in rural areas. We should extend all possible help that any senior citizen requires. Becoming a senior citizen should not necessarily mean retirement from active life. Senior citizens can and in many cases do contribute to the society. Should a senior citizen be in good health and keen to do a job, every opportunity should be extended to enable them to train the young or budding people to have utilization of pragmatism. We should not accept the loss of experience earned by senior citizens. Experience of senior citizens is wealth without any measurement criteria. Our Constitution clearly declares in article 15(D) that the government should introduce social security programme for the insolvent elderly population. However the only visible support to the older persons is the old age allowance (Boyosko Bhata) of Taka 300 a month per person. Is it well enough doing something for them? Lots of question marks come out in this regards. In our country, lots of activities are being done by government or non-government for the development of children, adolescents, women, but for older people, there is no significant activity. And this true that today we are standing on the platform made by them. RRF has strong intensity to do something for this great older people. As part of this, to honor these magnificent golden people, to express the gratitude for their inestimable sacrifice, on March- 2016 RRF has begun a philanthropic program namely “Senior Citizen Welfare Program” with the self-motivation. Without depending on anyone, RRF is implementing this completely self-financed program. RRF has set two Elderly Clubs named ‘Dipto’ in Jhekorgacha Upazilla and “Light House” in Sharsha Upazilla in Jessore district. This thanksgiving project is well-designed including various entertaining activities.
Learning and Innovation Fund to Test New Ideas (LIFT) Rural Reconstruction Foundation has undertaken to establish 19 desalination plants in Rampal Upazilla of Bagerhat District With a view to reducing the shortage of potable water in salinity prone areas. The PKSF backed “Production and distribution of low cost potable water at community level in salinity prone area” project has been started from 19 June, 2016 aiming to arrange long-lasting and fixed source of potable water for the community people through installing Reverse Osmosis Water Plant .
LIFT project is being implemented since 2006 to encourage and patronize innovative financial and non-financial initiatives intended to benefit the poor through the improvement of their livelihood, generation of sustainable environment and development of health and education and help develop new tools for poverty eradication.
Agriculture
Agricultural Value Chain (AVC) Project Sub-Sector: Mango and Vegetable Rural Reconstruction Foundation has undertaken to implement USAID-DAI backed Agricultural Value Chain Project from 15 May, 2015 in the southern part of the Country. This Project will achieve broad-based economic growth thus enhancing long-term food security in the targeted area by applying a market systems approach. Currently in South Bangladesh farmers fail to obtain optimum output from different agricultural crops due to inadequate knowledge of modern crop management techniques. Farmers lack awareness of the most effective methods of nurturing mango trees, harvesting techniques and timing, all crucial for producing the best quality. RRF also started Agro Enterprise to initiate business activities in agricultural crops (Mango, Eggplant, Bitter Gourd, Pointed Gourd and Cucumber) involving the commercial farmers in its working areas.
The attempts of Mango sub sector is to facilitate improved mango orchard management and post-harvest techniques and promote safe mango, while the Summer Vegetable is to facilitate improved cultivation and post-harvest management of summer vegetables and supply safe vegetables to consumer markets

With regards to enhance the livelihoods i.e. higher income from self-employment, business profit, wage employment, and food security of the moderate and extreme poor in a sustainable manner. As a development partner of PKSF, RRF is keen to adopt with strategy of combining financial and non-financial services to accelerate the process of poverty reduction. Sub-Sector: Carp-Golda Rural Reconstruction Foundation has undertaken to implement an Agricultural Value Chain project namely Promoting Agricultural Commercialization and Enterprises (PACE) project from May 2016. From the very beginning RRF started working in two sub-sectors named Mug-bean and Amon Rice in Jessore, Jhenidha, Chuadanga and Magura district. Later, yet another sub-sector named Carp-Golda been included under this PKSF and IFAD backed PACE project form 16 February, 2017. The ‘Promoting Agricultural Commercialization and Enterprises (PACE) Project is designed on the basis of contributing significantly in poverty reduction and employment generation for the country’s people. With regards to enhance the livelihoods i.e. higher income from self-employment, business profit, wage employment, and food security of the moderate and extreme poor in a sustainable manner. The said project is being implemented in two streams; 1. Value Chain and 2. Technology and Product Adaptation. The Department of Agriculture Extension facilitates this project which is located in Ulashi union of Sharsha upazilla in Jessore with the 8 acres of land. Capacity Strengthening Training Program: RRF has a well-equipped training center of its own where 120 people can be accommodated at a time. The project supports young people through capacity building; youth led social action projects, policy dialogue, and youth exchange. Skill for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) Rural Reconstruction Foundation, over the years, has gained valuable experience on the multi-dimensional aspects of poverty and acknowledges the fact that Bangladesh is well-placed to benefit from the demographic dividend up to 2050, and believe that combined with effective policies and markets could trigger faster rates of economic growth and human development. Thereby, accept as true that human resource plays a vital role in the knowledge economy and working population and it is becoming an increasingly important factor for the performance of individuals, organizations and whole economies. However, the upgrading of skill based labor market due to technological and organizational change is one of the major threats for the low skilled workers in Bangladesh, as they are being unable to adjust their skills according to the market demand. From this comprehension, from December 2015, Rural Reconstruction Foundation (RRF) has begun a technical skill development program named “Skill for Employment Investment Program (SEIP) which is backed by Palli Karma-Shayak Foundation (PKSF). Asian Development Bank, Government of Bangladesh and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) are jointly financing the project. In fact, under this project, 15-year-old or above youth people will receive skill development training in various technical trades and in which, 70% of the trainees will be placed in employment at home and abroad service. To promote this program, RRF has already taken required registration from Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB) which is a pre-requisite to be entitled for this project implementation. Building Skills for Unemployed and Underemployed Labor (B-SkillFUL) Mandated by both Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and European Union (EU) the B-SkillFUL Project of Swisscontact aims to improve the well-being of poor and disadvantaged men and women by increasing their access to the labor market and increased income where safeguarding their fundamental rights at work. We have been able to establish a Jute Crafts Centre in Jessore where extensively jute products are being used to make different crafts such as: shopping bags, school bags, floor mats, ladies items etc. We are trying to aware mass people on using of jute items instead of polythene bags as it pollutes the environment.

The internship experience is mutually beneficial for RRF and Interns either. The key component in setting up an internship in RRF is well-structured which includes information on learning objectives, daily responsibilities, short- and long-term projects, supervisor assignments, evaluation procedures, policies and expectations, and orientation and so on. In reality, setting up an internship program is similar to starting any new program or project: It's crucial that RRF have a plan with a view to conduct internship successfully. However, it's as easy as checking items off a list until that plan is put into action. RRF thinks Internship programs can be appeared with tremendous benefits to organization activities in terms of increasing productivity and recruiting well-suited staff members.
According to RRF Internship structure about 4 weeks to three months or the duration of one semester or quarter, or the duration that can be manageable by interns or organizations which take the internship services —is a common internship length here in RRF. However, length of internship can also be dictated by the duration of a school break; for instance, summer internships and winter internships are common, and take place over the course of a summer or winter vacation.
